There is a team in this squad but defending for buttons

895

Of all the football nonsense, I hate scapegoating most.  So Ryan, I’m sorry, but what on earth were you doing?  We were 0-2 ahead and had created several other very good chances.  Milan were nowhere, they had not mustered a cohesive attack. That foul was conceded in the perfect spot for a free kick taker; you could read the script on how momentum would switch the moment it was awarded.

Attackers are primarily there to exploit opponents weaknesses, Tom Rogic, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie combined to do this and put Celtic two ahead in the San Siro.  Tom came close on another occasion, Callum McGregor had a gilt-edged chance and having got himself into the perfect position, Jeremie Frimpong froze with Milan at his mercy.  We could have been out of sight.

There is a team in this squad.  The formation looked right.  Frimpong seemed liberated from his normal wide anchor, Rogic worried defenders before tiring; in particular, I was impressed by the way the ball was accurately bulleted across the field.

Oh, and we cannot defend for buttons.  I was chastised by a 16-year-old after the game for talking up the relative merits of this performance compared to Ross County.  Apparently there is a rulebook for defending two goal leads away to tier one teams, you defend like Ross County and close the game out.  But we don’t know how to defend like Ross County.  Imagine that!

What I will say is, they fought for their manager last night, Commando Christie in particular.

Can I just offer our condolences for the loss of your son, Daniel, which I assume is where your moniker may be derived from? I can see the love you had for your Bhoy in your warmth of your post and may I offer you my family’s thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

I also live in the Mearns and if there is anything, absolute anything we can do for you at this difficult time , please do not hesitate to ask?

    Hoe you are good!

Such sad news. As I am at the end of the row in 106 it is likely I have seen you many times and that somehow makes me feel even closer to you in this sad, sad time.

    Sincere heartfelt condolences to you.

An unimaginable tragedy for you and family.

    God bless you all.

  6. Sincere thanks to the many who have posted and have sent prayers and good wishes to my family.

It’s genuinely heart warming to have so many people care.

I’ve witnessed true kindness from so many people since Daniel was diagnosed with his illness and if it’s taught me anything it’s how to show compassion to people who really are in need of help.

It’s easy to stroll through life blindfolded by selfishness but I from now on will be a lot more charitable and aware of other people’s pain.

Tough times are ahead but love will always win in the end.

If I make it back to CP come and say hi to me as there will be a spare seat.

    Many thanks Everyone.

  9. Hello again all you young rebels.

Just wakened, feeling chirpy, family all coming for dinner today.

And then read DANDAN’s post, absolutely devastating.

Like many of us my proudest moment was taking my boy to his

first game at Celtic Park, second was taking my grandson to see

Celtic play Melbourne victory when the Bhoys gave us a visit.

No words can convey the sadness I feel for you and the family.

I know you will all remember him lovingly RIP DANIEL.

    God bless.

  12. *CQN PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2020-21*

RESULTS FROM GAME #24 – AC MILAN 4 CELTIC 2 (ROGIC, EDOUARD)

If only we could defend. If only we could tackle! When we had the ball we looked good and after going 3-2 behind early in the 2nd half we had a really good 20 minute spell that was almost entirely in their half. However, yet another defeat and another 4 goals conceded is not what was needed.

Glad to see that the numbers are up a little from the last few games so a big thank you to the 47 who voted. Over the last few weeks it did cross my mind to introduce a 4th option for folk to vote for their Scapegoat Of The Week and this would probably have generated even more votes! I am, of course, joking but cheers for the suggestion Pannysbhoy 😉.

Finally, I know that a lot of folk on the main CQN blog have a moan about the form of McGregor and Brown, compared to last season. But, through YOUR votes, those 2 players are still in our top 6 of this season. Just saying…. 😉

The votes cast for each player are as follows (with my own choices asterisked) –

    Barkas: 0

    Elhamed: 0

    Bitton: 12

    Ajer: 13

    Laxalt: 20

    Frimpong*: 32

    Brown*: 23

    McGregor: 4

    Christie: 7

    Rogic: 14

    Edouard*: 15

    Ntcham: 1

    Soro:

    Klimala: 0

So, the players receiving points for the AC Milan game are –

    Frimpong – 5 points

    Brown – 4 points

    Laxalt – 3 points

    Edouard – 2 points

    Rogic – 1 point

And the overall table is now –

    1st – Laxalt – 47 points

    2nd – Christie – 40 points

    3rd – McGregor – 37 points

    4th – Frimpong – 35 points

    5th – Ajer – 24 points

    6th – Brown and Elyounoussi – 23 points

    8th – Rogic – 17 points

    9th – Ntcham – 16 points

    10th – Duffy – 15 points

    11th – Bitton and Griffiths – 12 points

    13th – Edouard – 13 points

    14th – Taylor – 10 points

    15th – Barkas – 9 points

    16th – Ajeti – 8 points

    17th – Elhamed – 7 points

    18th – Forrest and Jullien – 5 points

    20th – Bain, Klimala and Welsh – 4 points

    23rd – Turnbull – 1 point

    24th – Bolingoli, Dembele and Soro – 0 points

Next up, back to league action on Sunday – a VERY important game – with a 3pm kick off at home to St Johnstone.

    Hail Hail!

  13. DANDAN,

Just read your post. My sincere sympathy to you and you family. It’s so tragic when one dies so young and even more so for parents to lose a child.. It may be hard now but remember you have someone in Heaven looking out for you all.

    May Daniel rest in peace.

  15. SAINT STIVS on 4TH DECEMBER 2020 6:19 PM

I was fine with Neil being appointed back then, I had no problem with it at all.

Since then what has he won ? 2 leagues a league cup , a scottish cup, and another to come.

I was at Hampden when the whole celtic end sang his name as he was appointed.

The ASDA car park had Green brigaders in it all signing his praises

    short memories

    ==================

I think there is degree of self fulfilling prophecy at play.

When first appointed lots of the support were unhappy and blamed Jeanette Findlay for bringing it about at the Roadshow after Tony Mowbray got sacked.

I reckon the same folk were just as unhappy when he was reappointed after BR left but as long as Celtic were winning there was no justification for compliant. (Remember the meltdown after losing late December 2019.

So whilst there has to be a new layer of criticism rightly made, but not necessarily at the right level, I think the issue is a systemic one and Neil Lennon is as much a victim of Celtic’s modus operandi (thats to confuse interlopers btw) as the support.

  16. Dandan

I don’t know what to say and I can’t imagine what you’re going through. You are obviously a brilliant and loving father. You will never walk alone.

  17. DANDAN on 4TH DECEMBER 2020 8:11 PM

As a father of two approaching 50 and 40 but still my wee boys, I cannot imagine the pain you must be feeling at your loss.

  18. DanDan So sorry to hear your sad news ,

Daniel “God is my strength” may your devotion to your son help you through this difficult time .God Bless RIP

  19. DANDAN-I’m in 416 and will never give my dads seat up.we can meet half way.Or even sit together now and then 💚

  20. DanDan, so sorry for your lose. Remember the memories, Daniel will be safe with many other great Celts in heaven now.

  21. DanDan, heartbreaking, may you find the strength to cope and support your loved ones, and your son Daniel Rest in Peace.

  22. Beautiful coming together of the Celtic family in DANDAN’s time

    of grief.

This is the Celtic I know and love, not fences, protests, hatred, goading,

etc. but a united people who are there for one another.

Hopefully some of the players who read these pages will be inspired

and realise that we will back them to the hilt if they give us 100% every

    game now.
