There is a team in this squad but defending for buttons

895

Of all the football nonsense, I hate scapegoating most.  So Ryan, I’m sorry, but what on earth were you doing?  We were 0-2 ahead and had created several other very good chances.  Milan were nowhere, they had not mustered a cohesive attack. That foul was conceded in the perfect spot for a free kick taker; you could read the script on how momentum would switch the moment it was awarded.

Attackers are primarily there to exploit opponents weaknesses, Tom Rogic, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie combined to do this and put Celtic two ahead in the San Siro.  Tom came close on another occasion, Callum McGregor had a gilt-edged chance and having got himself into the perfect position, Jeremie Frimpong froze with Milan at his mercy.  We could have been out of sight.

There is a team in this squad.  The formation looked right.  Frimpong seemed liberated from his normal wide anchor, Rogic worried defenders before tiring; in particular, I was impressed by the way the ball was accurately bulleted across the field.

Oh, and we cannot defend for buttons.  I was chastised by a 16-year-old after the game for talking up the relative merits of this performance compared to Ross County.  Apparently there is a rulebook for defending two goal leads away to tier one teams, you defend like Ross County and close the game out.  But we don’t know how to defend like Ross County.  Imagine that!

What I will say is, they fought for their manager last night, Commando Christie in particular.

    Thank goodness its game day.

I was lying in bed there thinking…..(steady tiger) about our team to play St. J today. All of my formations included a goalkeeper and 2 forwards in Griff and Eddie to build a partnership. The rest whether it be 3-5-1 or 4-4-2 or whatever fandangled formation can change.

Although I personaly would like a set formation and spine/core of the team to remain the same.

Anyway let’s put on a show, hit them fast and straight from the off.

In your post you said – “I’ve not seen them (Sevco) play…” then followed up by “…not as good as they’re made out to be..”

With all due respect, if you’ve never seen them play then I’m not sure how you came to the conclusion in my second quote.

I’m not sure how good they’re made out to be but what I do know is they’ve conceded three goals to our thirteen having played two games less. They’re still in the domestic cups, unbeaten in the league and as a Pot 3 team, have just qualified for the knock-out stages for the Europa League while as a Pot 1 team, we’re rock bottom and close to the most goals ever conceded in the competition.

Now, I’m not saying they’re an amazing team but on current form, they’re considerably better than us and our strategy at the moment seems to be – pray we can put a run together and hope they collapse again. Neither is impossible but neither can be relied upon.

It’s a valid point about the nerves they must be feeling although I think they have a couple of potential things to help solve that. Firstly, no fans. Last season they admitted they’d struggle in front of their own fans but right now they can play with freedom without the nerves and tension spilling onto the pitch.

Secondly would be the breathing space in the table. If we can keep pace, I’m hoping that the nerves could get to them while our squad that has been there and done it would show the experience to get over the line. However, give them a lead of 8+ points, the pressure is off slightly and they have room for error.

We probably have to win every game (starting today) until we play at Ibrox then win that fixture to put us back in the race. We then have to use January to sell off a wantaway or two (I’d shed no tears for Ntcham – there’s a player in there but we won’t see it here, we need the money and we need harmony in the dressing room) and recruit well to bring in a couple of players….starting with a loan or permanent move for a good goalkeeper.

If all these things happen, we’ll win the league. However, plodding along with the status quo in the hope that “their luck will run out” or “they’ll collapse after New Year” is simply sleepwalking towards disaster.

  10. FAO BLANTYRE TIM…or anyone else thinking of buying a Caravan…

I bought one in November 2003…and sold it for a Massive Los in November 2006.

Under the ” Rules and Regulations UK Law” in relation to siting any Caravan on someones elses Site…EVERY UK Site Owner has you by the short and curlies from Day One !

I lost around £15,000 between 2003 and 2006. IF I hadnt found a Private Buyer, I would have lost much more than £15,000, as any Site Owner ( who you MUST make aware that you are selling firstly under UK Law), will only offer you a fraction of the original Price that you paid.

Some Site Owners, will buy your Caravan for peanuts, and then take it Off Site and sell it in Holland, usually making a £5,000/£8,000 PROFIT for themselves !

Also dont forget that ANY Caravan is just like a Car…it loses value from Day One. As soon as you put a car on the road the car it loses its original value…likewise a Caravan.

I USED to know the UK LAWS/ Rules and Regulations in relation to Caravans ” Backwards”…but there was NOTHING I could do to prevent taking a massive hit after only 3 years.

    BEWARE !

  12. OLDTIM67,

I am looking forward to hopefully meeting you again with many of the other Bhoys from here asap.

Lets hope that Celtic are TOP of the League once again by the time we next meet, and we can get very Drunk ?

2020…Has been a Wash Out for everyone.

HH mate, stay safe and take care.

  13. The Wifes folks, have a wee Caravan in one of the most picturesque beauty spots in the Emerald Isle……..well into their 80’s now, they never use it………but selling it on is a huge issue thanks to the site owner’s rights……..

to be fair to him the landscape is kept immaculately…………none of us need nor want the thing but when the time comes to sell up – the financial hit will be remarkable………………

Splash out on the best hotel or BB you can – over the time you’ll still be better off imo.

  16. Good Morning CQN!

Firstly, a great read back and as a long time lurker but fairly infrequent poster it was great to see so many old names back. It would be good to hear from some of the other old stalwarts such as BRTH and Morrissey the 23rd, both of whom I had the pleasure of meeting in Lisbon in May 17.

    DanDan,

Can I belatedly say what a wonderful tribute to your son, Daniel. Your love and devotion to him shines through and your courage to post what you did is inspiring. There have also been some fantastic, heartfelt responses posted which I’m sure you will draw strength from now and in days to come.

I too have had the tragic misfortune to bury a son called Daniel. In Autumn 2017, aged just 17, he was laid to rest alongside his brother, Liam, who died during my wife’s Labour in 1997. It is a pain like no other and I have to say I am not the person I was back then but what keeps me going forward is my wife and daughters, my brothers and sisters (and their families) and lifelong friends who are nearly all to a man fellow Celts. I have never posted on the subject before, mainly because I didn’t have the strength to, and I sincerely hope not to have to do so again but on reading your post and in particular the response by Fritzsong, I felt compelled to. I know there are no words that can do justice to your loss and I know too that at this time you will be in auto-pilot mode with all the arrangements and formalities that have to be made but in the weeks and months ahead, please allow yourself the time to fully grieve, it is so so important. Yes there will be tough times ahead and life will never be the same but the love for Daniel that you have so eloquently expressed, the love of your family and your memories will sustain you. I’ll end by echoing what others who have experienced great loss have said, the love and joy that Daniel brought you will never leave you, he is in you and with you for all time.

    YNWA and God Bless

    Sid

    Exactly!

Some people still haven’t woken up and smelled the coffee, others have and are panicking and this makes them disrespect the players and manager – they can criticize by all means but shouldn’t show disrespect. Hard to say if all is not lost – statistically it isn’t of course but can NL and his current squad turn things round? Personally I doubt it. Would additions in January save the 10IAR – only if we can beat rangers in all remaining encounters and don’t lose any elsewhere. Hopefully playing in the knockout stages will make them a little bit vulnerable in Scotland but no guarantees. The thing about Chris Sutton pointing to the lack of a great goalkeeper as a reason for our current predicament shows (i) the defense has been terrible for a long time (ii) rangers weren’t then that different from other teams in Scotland in that they squandered goal scoring opportunities but now they more than likely to take them with their current squad. The differences in Celtic’s and rangers’ goal differences is greater than it has been for many years.

  19. SID1888 – beautifult words.

My ” Site” for my Caravan was also very well kept etc, but no matter ” how immaculate” etc a Site/Scenic Views may be, it is a HUGE Risk, with ANY UK Site Owner hollding ALL the Aces.

The Site owner that I had I had to deal with, was a “True Brit RACIST”.

He was adamant that NO Asian folk etc would ever have a caravan on his Site. This of course meant that even IF I had found a Private Buyer who just happened to be from Asia etc, and who may have offered MORE Cash that the Site Owner, I was prevented from selling to anyone from Asia and elsewhere, due to the FACT that any UK Site Owner, can simply TELL You that they will NOT allow the sale to go through, and even if it DID go through ( behind the site Owners back)…it was NOT Feasible to sell to anyone that the Site Owner would object to, as he would simply NOT ALLOW the ” NEW” owners on HIS Site..its that simple.

When it did come to me agreeing to and selling to a Private Buyer, I STILL had to hand over 10% of the Sale Price to the Site Owner…for literally doing NOTHING !

I had also spoken to some Site Owners in England by phone, who advised me that 10% wasnt too bad, as MANY other Site Owners have it written in the contract/rules that that they can charge MORE than 10% of the Sale Price if they want to ? Many Site Owners charged 15% of any Sale Price, according to my information at the time.

I was very angry about handing over £1,500 to my site Owner for doing…Feck All, but I was left with NO Choice, because IF I had refused to pay him the 10% of the Private sale Price…he would simply NOT allow the “NEW” Owner to move into the Caravan, and in fact the Site Owner was within ” His Rights” NOT just to deny any sale going through, but he also had the ” Right” under UK Laws, to simply take the newly sold Caravan OFF Site in the middle of the night, if he wished ?

IF any site Owner is NOT in any way happy about You or me selling to someone else, or IF he doesnt receive his 10%/15% from you after the Sale, the Site Owners will TOW the said Caravan Off Site and Park it in the street….Simples !

Be extra careful IF you wish to buy a Caravan in the UK, there are so many Pitfalls…Trust Me !

    HH.

Bought a caravan in Wales in August this year – you’re right – choosing the site is more important than the caravan
