There is worse to come

812

Neil Lennon said we didn’t deserve to lose 4-1, as we dominated large parts of the game against a team who have lost their last four games (not against Celtic), conceding 14 goals in the process.  But oh, Neil, we absolutely deserved to lose by at least that margin.

Our disorganisation is a marvel.  Scott managing to start his jump goal-side of a dropping ball and ending up wrong side.  Callum playing three onside.  Kris A. not committing to block the cross (forgiven, trying to cover two positions), Chris J. attempting to intercept with the wrong foot (forgiven, fitness).  Hatem reliving his Ferencvaros highlights.  Full backs who are never back and produce few assists; there is no defensive midfield, unless you count the goalkeeper who feels the need to leave his box and play that position, just a midfield of nomads.

The team is a collection of individuals unencumbered by a workable strategy.  Opposition managers have their game plan written: defend deep, play on the counter and put numbers forward at set-pieces.  If we could defend counter-attacks and corner kicks, we would be having a legendary season, but we can’t, so everyone looks awful.

In sport, if you have evident fatal flaws and persistently fail to resolve them, you deserve every setback that comes your way.  It is hard to recall a Celtic team that deserved to lose more.  Let me give you a cheery prediction, you will soon forget about last night, as there is worse to come.

    Because

    1. they are now at the end of their financial tether. They weren’t last year. Every year they have been in existence they have spent more than they have earned. They have run out of road. If they do not win the league this year and get access to European money they will either suffer an insolvency event or will have to cut back so drastically that they will wither and die as any kind of competitive threat.

    and

    2. Covid, and the effect it has had on football finances, has made their situation far more precarious than it previously was, and has made the consequences of their demise on Celtic all the more acute. Essentially Covid made what had been a major problem into an urgent crisis.

  8. SFtBs @ 7:26 PM,

That’s a very interesting post, I’d like to deal with in two parts.

Firstly, Sevco Rangers in the SPL.

Now here is what I remember, if it’s any different hopefully the wiser fholk will put me right.

The original deal, that was to enshrined in the 5wa, would have seen Newco in the SPL. The voting was such that oldco could vote for that – Celtic could abstain or vote against (to save face) and the proposal would still be ratified… Newco in the SPL.

The 5wa would be signed, Newco would be a continuation of Rangers -the LNS Commision would sit and look at the EBT infringments and player registrations etc and penalise Newco/oldco. It was thought 5 titles would be stripped, a transfer ban and a huge fine would be implemented.

The unfortuate thing for Charles Green’s Rangers was Scottish Football supporters got wind of this. Another unfortuate thing was it was season ticket renewal time. Lead by the Aberdeen supporters, a boycott was announced on season ticket sales. The SPL chairman caved in and voted against admitting Newco in the SPL.

Then they had to go for plan B, the SFL Championship, yet the likes of Raith’s Turnbull railed against it and Newco had to begin life in the bottom teir of the SFL.

Now Charles Green’s business plan was seriously screwed, remember is plan was for a stock market float later in 2012 to repay the money invested and make himself and his partners many millions.

With Newco in the fourth teir, a huge fine, transfer embargo and stripped titles, he could see Rangers fans walking away in a rage, little money to pay the salaries of Ally, his coaches, staff and the players who tupe’d over on SPL contracts.

So he refused to sign the 5wa on those terms, his view, the agreed terms included SPL football.

It was call your bluff time but as CG’s figures didn’t stack up the SFA, SPL, SFL and associated Clubs feared he had nothing to loose by walking away and would do.

They negotiated long into the summer – that’s why Sevco had to play Brechin in the Cup on a temporary licence.

When the 5wa was eventually made there was no guilt or penalties for the EBT years, no title stripping, a small fine and a one year transfer embargo, that was not to start to the end of that seasons transfer window and to end before the start of 2013 summer transfer window. He also got a special TV deal for Sevco via the SPL and SKY.

Charles Green sold it (especially the title stripping) as a great victory, yet at the same time a travesty of justice as “Rangers” had been unfairly “relegated” three divisions. He got Rangeritis wore his orange Rangers top. The Gers were united, on the war path and on a journey.

Of course, the LNS Commission that was supposed to look into Rangers wrong doing couldn’t find them guilty as the SPL, SFL and SFA had in fact pardoned them. The Commission then had to sit as a sham and cover up, which of course it was.

Celtic then showed faux outrage at the SFA (even though the LNS Commission was the work of the SPL) and Sevco’s journey to be Rangers and win the 55th title began.

So to your next part of the conspiracy, did Celtic deliberately downsize to allow Rangers (who were making a bit of a hash of their “return” to greatness) a chance to become a competitive old firm player and win a title?

Well you pays your money you takes your choice, the evidence is out there.

My feeling is Celtic deliberately downsized to make Rangers competitive but always wanted the record TEN.

Rangers got better quicker than was anticipated and Celtic became much worse than they were supposed to be. Incompetence you call it, I’d go along with that.

Season after season big Pedro has flattered to decieve and now he has been found out.

So we are where we are and DD reacts decisively NOW and saves the TEN or we have a white knuckle ride to ignominy.

    Hail Hail

  9. ernie lynch @ 9:07 pm

That only argues against the first , and least important, of my 3 reasons why conspiracy was not the reason.

You have given your reason as to why this year

You have not explained points 2 and 3

Why respond to their thrreats of suicide- because if we give in to the balackmail- they will just keep on deploying this approach?

And, ultimately, what IS the “threat” involved in their going bust? They’ll just get back in the game again with debt dropped and no sanction like they did the last time?

The Ibrox club is NOT going out of business- they have too many fans for this to be allowed. They do not operate in the Woolworths/ BHS arena with real sanctions. There will always be a form of Rangers and they will beat us sometimes in the future as they have done in the past.

Reconcile it how you must but, in my mind, IF they win this year it will be purely because they have played better than us.

The Board have done enough to get the treatment but the one thing they haven’t done, and cannot do, is present the title to Sevco by collusion.

We have been failing and we have cocked up this year’s race so far but it is down to our players amnd management, not to some Svengali figure or Machiavellian back room deals.

  10. Just had a blazing row on social media with a so called celtic fan….. He said and I quote… This is the worst celtic team I’ve seen and I’m 60….. I had to tell him to shut fucking up… As someone who went nearly every week in the 77/78 season… I said you are either lying. A hun. Stirring the shit or you’ve escaped!!!… Celtic finished 5th… 36 points from 36 games.. And won 15 games and lost 15 games!!!…..

well i was only going to my first games then having just started primary school so cant really comment on the level of badness that season compared to this

but what i can say about your post is why the difference in badness between this season and that season ended in a ‘blazing row’ and you telling someone to ‘shut f*cking up’?

so it might be a case that one season is pisher than the other

but we are living in the present. and we have been utter pish the whole season

so i think your reaction to such a point as you describe it on twitter was as irrelevant as it was unnecessary

It’s about what you, or others term as a conspiracy, in the past few years there have been so so many conspiracy theories that have turned out not to be a conspiracy theory, this year alone they number in their 00’s due to the scamdemic, but leave that aside, the con theory you are talking about is throwing the league, yes-no, I haven’t seen anyone actually saying that the board are actively throwing the league so the hun can live on, I personally believe that the board see the OF as their cash cow for all the wrong reasons, they know that the bigotry and hate will always be there, only yesterday I had an hour or so to kill while the Mrs was in the hospital, I wasn’t allowed in so I sat in the car and watched a vid from 84 I think, it was called Green Flutes, interesting stuff, the hate is and always will be there, the us and them, the folks who control things, be it at our club or the authorities know this and exploit it to the fullest.

Had they not been of this mindset, the suits at the club would have pulled away, the opportunity was there big time, we had no opposition, we even brought in a top coach, the bank balance was bulging, yet we didn’t capitalize on it and we are where are today, that is no con theory, that is a simple fact.

Rightly or wrongly I believe that the suits always wanted thems to survive but we always wanted to keep them at arms length and be just that wee bit ahead, it seems that we have fecked that up big time and now the fans are revolting, we lose the league the banners go back up next season with or without fans, Yer man Pedro has fecked it up big time IMO, debatable of course, but I will wager now that his legacy won’t be a good one.

  16. *CQN PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2020-21*

RESULTS FROM GAME #22 – SPARTA PRAGUE 4 CELTIC 1 (Edouard)

Given that I didn’t get a single reaction when I posted the results after the draw with Hibs I don’t imagine that will change following the latest defeat by Sparta Prague. So I’ll cut to the chase.

A huge thank you to the 27 who could be bothered to vote (when we beat Motherwell, 73 of you emailed, the draw with Hibs saw that number drop to 28; but tonight’s is an all time low). I recognise that not only is that a very low number, but 7 of us only nominated 1 or 2 players from that performance.

The votes cast for each player are as follows (with my own choices asterisked) –

    Bain: 0

    Elhamed: 5

    Jullien: 14

    Ajer: 1

    Laxalt*: 24

    Brown: 0

    McGregor: 6

    Christie: 1

    Ntcham: 0

    Elyounoussi: 2

    Edouard*: 17

    Rogic: 0

    Klimala: 0

So, the players receiving points for the Sparta Prague game are –

    Laxalt – 5 points

    Edouard – 4 points

    Jullien – 3 points

    McGregor – 2 points

    Elhamed – 1 point

*Diego Laxalt has now played 9 games for us, been Man Of The Match in 6 and runner up in 2. Unfortunately, Celtic have only won 2 of those 9 games.

And the overall table is now –

    1st – Laxalt – 40 points

    2nd – Christie and McGregor – 36 points

    4th – Frimpong – 30 points

    5th – Ajer and Elyounoussi – 23 points

    7th – Ntcham and Rogic – 16 points

    9th – Duffy – 15 points

    10th – Brown – 14 points

    11th – Bitton and Griffiths – 12 points

    13th – Taylor – 10 points

    14th – Barkas – 9 points

    15th – Ajeti – 8 points

    16th – Edouard – 10 points

    17th – Elhamed, Forrest and Jullien – 5 points

    20th – Bain, Klimala and Welsh – 4 points

    23rd – Turnbull – 1 point

    24th – Bolingoli, Dembele and Soro – 0 points

Next up, our 3rd game in 8 days in 3 different tournaments as we entertain Ross County in the last 16 of the Betfred Cup. A 2.00pm kick off on Sunday.

    Hail Hail!

i think it is Ernie who has made the point on here on many occassions that the New Hun beating us and having a title race etc is good for Celtic PLCism

    and he is right

but there is no way in the world i think PL dances up and down his heated driveway when he sees the current league table or watches us drop points

thats a conspiracy theory too far

though i used to say that about the ‘man has never went to the moon’ conspiracy theory and it turns out that was right

    so what do i know

As for the outcome of the eff up, who knows what will transpire, I hope it comes to fruition sooner rather than later.

Someone posted that we had spent circa 35 million on players of late. If accurate, how does that tie in with the oft ecpressed view that the Board is resting on its collective laurels and offering Sevco a chance to be genuinely competitive ?

we have spent plenty of money

on players who NL doesnt play

or players who arent up to the job

as has been asked on here many times

what was the point in signing turnbull?

  24. So in May 2018 John McGinn went to Brendan Rodgers house for meal and Rodgers told him he was the future. The boy was sold. BR went on holiday and left it to Peter to do the deal. 6 months later Shved and Bayo arrived without the knowledge or BR. 6 months later again we appointed Neil without looking at another CV. Go figure.

  25. SFtBs @ 9:26 PM,

Well, as TET says, define a conspiracy is not straight forward.

Also overall, we are talking about a decade of Scottish Footbal where there were some very odd goings on and certainly conspiring.

But the TEN no, I don’t think we conspired to loose a league.

May be my reply to Hot Smoked below, might illumiate where I think it went wrong, at least in part.
