There will be goals

Dundee have played 12 games since losing 6-0 at Celtic Park in September, scoring in all but one of those occasions. Only Celtic and Aberdeen have kept them out in 21 games this season. They lost five last time out to Ross County (scoring twice), but scored four against Accies the week before. Season tickets at Dens are excellent value for money. There will be goals when Celtic visit tomorrow.

Kane Hemmings scored five of their six goals against County and Accies. He’s a direct player who makes runs from deep into space but a large portion of his goals come as a consequence of defensive errors. In short, he appears to run at defenders in anticipation of them making a mistake, not a wholly unproductive strategy for strikers playing against Celtic this season.

Ronny Deila will be keen Celtic build on the positives from Tynecastle, although the on-going absence of Leigh Griffiths will be a concern. I reckon we would have seen Carlton Cole at some point against Hearts if it were not for the plethora of injuries which restricted the manager’s options. Hearts had done their homework on Nadir Ciftci, who was well marshalled throughout. He can expect a similar night tomorrow.

Partick Thistle’s role in the title race will come into focus over the next week. They are on an excellent run ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Pittodrie at Saturday’s game at Celtic Park, having won their last four league games. You can win two Premium Seat tickets in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game, courtesy of Magners, if you answer this question:

Who was the last Partick Thistle manager to win four consecutive top flight games?

Email your answer in the SUBJECT line to celticquicknews@gmail.com before 17:00 tomorrow (30th). My Partick Thistle knowledge is limited, so editors decision if final……

And if you are so minded, having read what you’ve done already for Mary’s Meals in 2015, you can donate a £1 or so towards them here. Many thanks…………

    Thanks for reply.

Yes I seen all that but nothing specific about inspections etc. It would appear from one map Strathclyde could be really bad but I am hoping the Dundee area will miss the worst.

As you say all that matters is a win.

SNS The proscribed ‘Billy Boys’ was back at Ibrox yesterday

The Scottish Professional Football League will wait to see what its match delegate has to say before deciding whether to take action against Rangers over sectarian chanting during Monday’s clash with Hibernian.

The banned Billy Boys song could be clearly heard being sung by the home support during the Scottish Championship fixture on Monday.

Now the club could face potential punishment if the SPFL’s delegate decides to raise the matter when he submits his report on the match, won 4-2 by Mark Warburton’s team.

Do you have confidence in the SPFL’s ability to tackle sectarian chanting at games in Scotland?

    YES

    NO

A league spokesman said: “There was a delegate at the match and we will receive his report in due course. Until we see that report we are not in a position to comment.”

In 2006, UEFA fined Rangers and also ordered the club to make a public announcement at all their home games pointing out the chanting of the Billy Boys was banned after it was heard during a Champions League clash with Villarreal.

Maybe Kenny McAskill can advise the SFA delegate on the subtle distinctions between sectarian bile and a ‘great atmosphere’.

I believe he is an authority in this area.

I have been waiting since march for SFA’s appropriate department to deal with my complaints about LC semi.

I was a bit fragile yesterday after a great day out in Edinburgh before and after our game at Tynecastle, so decided to tune in for a bit and watch the World Club Championship game between two lower league teams.

I didn’t last too long as I couldn’t stomach the vile and hate filled sectarianism which came from my television.

After a period of reflection I found that sadness balanced my initial anger and disgust. I saw the camera pan in on a section of the RIFC support, the Union Bears. Mostly, young men and boys belting out their desire to be ‘up to our knees in Fenian blood’.

Strangely, much of the emotions I felt weren’t aimed at those dressed in red, white and blue who were responsible for such bigotry. No, the target primarily was a society, which has allowed such ignorance and intolerance to, not simply exist, but to grow.

A succession of governments, MPs, MSPs, council leaders, police officers, football governors, football clubs and decision makers have failed us.

    ———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

To be honest, I think all of the above mentioned should have far more important things to occupy their time than the doing something about the vile songs sung at the bigot-dome. As far as I am concerned they can sing all their “traditional” songs they want as long as we go on winning trophy after trophy and they don’t.

Getting the police and politicians involved has only led to the ridiculous OBA which I predicted it would when they first started singing the Famine Song and we demanded something be done about it. It was inevitable that the authorities would want to be seen to be “even handed” about so-called offensive songs at football matches and now you can be charged with a criminal offence for singing about a band of Irish freedom-fighters even though Her Maj laid a wreath in their honour in 2011. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

Frankly, I ‘m much more concerned about the gross mis-management of our own club than anything that sung at the Bigot-dome. I have never cared and never will. It doesn’t offend me because I don’t allow it to. They are scum and will always behave like scum. It’s one of the things that makes us and other sets of fans different from them.

    —–

Thanks for your reply but I’m afraid I’ll need to be quick as I’m heading out.

There’s aspects of your post I agree with. Was I surprised at what I heard yesterday? Nope, they did what they’ve always done.

    But for that’s the issue.

    Sticks and stones……..

Their songs will harm no one. However, it’s the WATP attitude which the songs encourage that will lead to subsequent violence, mostly directed at Celtic supporters.

That for me is why all those I mentioned have failed us. You mentioned the OBaF Act as an example of why the political powers shouldn’t sully their hands in this issue. I disagree, it’s because of their stupidity in introducing the Act that they failed us. It was dressed up an initiative to tackle sectarianism. It hasn’t and it won’t.

People with be assaulted in significant numbers over the course of the rest of this season as a consequence of the mob mentality permeating Ibrox and any other stadiums their supporters visit.

It’s a national embarrassment. For years there have been countless ideas rolled out in an attempt to eradicate sectarianism, they’ve all failed and in my opinion they’ll continue to fail while thousands are given carte blanch to sing about being up to their knees in the blood of Catholics.

I said only 3 players in current Celtic team are above question… Taking account of form and injury history

Biton Tierney and Griffiths are above question imo.

Lustig , Commons And Brown are very good players but age related injuries hampering their contribution.

Inconsistent form hampering Gordon, Forest, Izzy, Armstrong, GMS

I’d appreciate a chat sometime soon. Perhaps Paul would be kind enough to give you my details. Not urgent, just some colour and background.

  19. Comparing Irish folk songs to the vile racist songs over the south side is like comparing the folk songs of the black American community with the kkk. One group is signing about its community, struggle and people while the other is singing hate filled songs about a minority they hate and depicting as lesser people

the Scottish governments biggest difficulty, when it comes to this issue, is that it tries to make out one is as bad as the other, it tries to tell us that Ireland folk songs are sectarian and criminalises folk, yet the premise of the argument has no foundation in truth, it is a serious lack of understanding and ignorance on their part and underlines just how small minded they are, parochial in their outlook, it follows that they are then offended in the same way kkk members are offended when black folk sing songs they don’t like,

  21. The Government Police Politicans would like to keep secterianism as a West of Scotland problem, it’s not and never has been, I’m sick of hearing Tynecastle being described by people including our managers over many years as having a great atmosphere, it is a mini bigot dome, nothing will be done, it would require every instance of secterianism at every game treated and reported as such, and that is too uncomfortable for those in leafy Edinburgh

Great post. You’re correct. There are loads oot there who shout about going then come up with excuses not to go.

    Cowiebhoy

Interesting point regarding the season book increase. Celtic have no want or will to discuss this with season ticket holders, supporters groups or internet bloggers. They have never asked their cash cow what they want.

Our board will go along with any narrative that will make them the most money when R*ngers are in the league. Same as the sponsors and TV companies. I don’t like it but there is a lot a don’t like a modern fitba’.

I remember being in a meeting in 2012 and being told that since we wanted R*ngers out the league we would need to step up to the plate and pay for their loss. I thought at the time that if that was our PLC’s plan then we were in bother.

The Kiltie rumour is only a rumour.

Young midfield / wide / no;10 type player.

Plenty of appearances for an 18 year old with Kilmarnock and plenty of interest in him but not from us.

Not any better than our young prospects , the difference being he gets plenty game time & subsequently will get financial rewards given time and luck.
