There will be goals

733

Dundee have played 12 games since losing 6-0 at Celtic Park in September, scoring in all but one of those occasions. Only Celtic and Aberdeen have kept them out in 21 games this season. They lost five last time out to Ross County (scoring twice), but scored four against Accies the week before. Season tickets at Dens are excellent value for money. There will be goals when Celtic visit tomorrow.

Kane Hemmings scored five of their six goals against County and Accies. He’s a direct player who makes runs from deep into space but a large portion of his goals come as a consequence of defensive errors. In short, he appears to run at defenders in anticipation of them making a mistake, not a wholly unproductive strategy for strikers playing against Celtic this season.

Ronny Deila will be keen Celtic build on the positives from Tynecastle, although the on-going absence of Leigh Griffiths will be a concern. I reckon we would have seen Carlton Cole at some point against Hearts if it were not for the plethora of injuries which restricted the manager’s options. Hearts had done their homework on Nadir Ciftci, who was well marshalled throughout. He can expect a similar night tomorrow.

Partick Thistle’s role in the title race will come into focus over the next week. They are on an excellent run ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Pittodrie at Saturday’s game at Celtic Park, having won their last four league games. You can win two Premium Seat tickets in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game, courtesy of Magners, if you answer this question:

Who was the last Partick Thistle manager to win four consecutive top flight games?

Email your answer in the SUBJECT line to celticquicknews@gmail.com before 17:00 tomorrow (30th). My Partick Thistle knowledge is limited, so editors decision if final……

And if you are so minded, having read what you’ve done already for Mary’s Meals in 2015, you can donate a £1 or so towards them here. Many thanks…………

  1. Drssybhoy, well said, first time i got called fenian bastard i was in Dundee, no Celtic top on, no accent, lived there for a while, been in Edinburgh when an enlightened call from flat was heard to say fuck the pope!!! ok but little old for me… The government sell as west coast issue cause truth is very uncomfortable, truth is the police could easily get just about every season ticket holder’s details from game yesterday, criminalise them and slap footballing banning orders on them but then they would have to face the ugly truth which is a wee country full of wee minded people, hh

Next season I have to move my seat for safe standing as my son is under 16 (sat there for years as well). If I can manage to get seats in the next section me and wife’s book will go up £100 each. If they put the £50 back on again there’s another £100 if they up the kids books because Sevco are back I could be looking at an extra £400 or so to renew the 3 of us next year. All for the privilege of Celtic putting us out of our seats.

As usual I didn’t say or even mean what meaning you gave my post.

You give me a realistic business case that takes costs benefits and risks into account and I’ll be open minded enough to change it if your case is plausible.

Until you do that what credibility you have has a mountain to climb.

But keep posting what you think I mean. You’ll get tired before I tire clarifying.

I stopped giving my money to other Clubs in Scotland 30 years ago, since I encountered anti all things Celtic bigotry at every stadium ….sad really ….the demise of derhun has improved the situation greatly, with this tribute act having no credibility at all ……they will never achieve any success, and that will just feed / intensify their hatred ….. If the SFA continue to ignore it all, hell mend them …… we will continue to cope with anything they throw at us….

  6. Given the large difference with transfer budget and average salary , should Man City not be giving Leicester a football lesson tonight ? Good game btw.

  7. As an unrepentant fenian, I take absolutely no notice of what the zombie nation chant at their home games.

Did your spread sheet include the potential savings on the high number of under performers or people we pay for nothing into account ?

It only looked at what needed to be added because once you sign a dud you don’t know until six months have gone that you have but you have them for three years.

If we only signed sure things that would mean more than the 3 additional quality players to get sure things I used so the savings on duds (assuming we could actually realise those savings for if we knew they were duds we wouldn’t sign them to then make savings on) could not be realised.

If you are saying we should sign less duds I agree but how do you know if it’s dud and if a player clearly isn’t a dud why are no clubs after them thus pushing the price up?

So I started only with the extra needed to add quality on the basis that within the wage bill there is always going to be a number of players who for one reason or another don’t become first team regulars.

We might be able to put a value on that but unless we can tear up their contracts and say so long thanks for the fish that value cannot be used as a saving to reduce costs.

The serious point I was making, I think our scouting has been atrociously poor, and us costing us a vast fortune.

How many failures up front year on year is this costing us ?

A key area we as a club really need to address

I know you knew this though :-)

    Hail Hail

  10. Auldheid,

You say it’s economics, lets then look at signings as major contracts. If you had a management team that had in the past few years taken on major loss-making contracts such as Balde, Bangura, Pukki, Boerrigter, Cole, Ciftci, Wakaso, Berget, amongst many others, then at least half of your management team would have gone out the door. If you have a relatively finite amount of cash inflow with which to build and maintain your business and you consistently took those loss making gambles on a year by year basis, someone would eventually come up and tap you on the shoulder.

Unfortunately at Celtic, this gross mismanagement is not being addressed, in my opinion, it is now being exacerbated by gambling on even lower quality loss-making contracts than those of four or five years ago. The odd gem of a contract that ensured our longer term survival is looking less likely. The reality is, particularly with the fanbase/foundation that we have, that the majority of the contracts we sign should be relatively successful, if it is any other way in an economics sense then your business will very soon wither and die. Therefore, if the people that we currently have driving the bus are not capable, it is time to change the drivers.

Here’s another 3 straight of the top of my head

Miku, Lassad and Scepovic ( in fairness. Don’t think he got a decent chance, although didn’t want to be at us in the first place)

  12. Auldheid

I agree with much of what you say re the way the finances are handled at the club, but, and always the but, as others have pointed out, and I have said to you before, the scouting dept is costing the club untold money that could be spent in other areas, areas that will actually benefit the team on the park.

This constant searching for that diamond is getting harder year on year, and all we are digging up is fools gold.

    It has to change.

Celtic at the last fans forum mentioned moving the family section. There hasn’t been any mention of it since. Your situation is a perfect example of their unwillingness to discuss and work through these problems.

Shentlemen, last night, I sipped a few; just for medicinal purposes of course. Laphroaig 10, Lagavulin 16, Chivas Regal 18, Glenlivet 15: but none could dispel the truth that we are no very good in a no very good league.

I even had a wee Barbadillo La Cilla PX to sweeten my mood after dropping mair points, but again it was wasted on it. My friends, in the cold light of day, it only remains for us to call a spade a spade – we are rank rotten.

  15. Butsybhoy: Luke Kelly – Prince of the City is currently on RTÉ1. You might be able to catch it on RTÉplayer.

When visiting my parent’s grave recently I met an Aussie who was looking for Luke’s grave. He is buried close to them but I’ve yet to find it. I’ll put a bit more effort into it and if I find it I will let you know if I find it.
