There will be no end to it Celtic – unless you put an end to it

I bought my first tranche of Celtic shares in 1994 but when Fergus offered his shares to the fans (1999?) I was not in a position take up the offer.  Few of us did, as a consequence, Fergus sold most of his holding to Dermot Desmond.

It was a pity, as I liked the democratic feel of wider share ownership.  Subsequently, when the club needed money in 2001 and 2005, share offers were not taken up widely by the support, so perhaps share concentration was always likely.  When the club itself was in jeopardy the support dug deep, Fergus famously commenting on how those queuing up in 1994 to pay money for Celtic shares, clearly had little income.  The subsequent share issues were about rebuilding the squad and training complex, less emotive topics.

Still, it is important to me to be a shareholder, I know many of us feel the same.  We can call the executive to account and, as there are many thousands of us, we represent with wider support, immune from fads.

The Trust yesterday proposed shares are issued instead of refunds to season ticket holders, who were unable to attend in person this season.  In case it needs said, while we received rights to view games online, many families earned no incremental benefit for additional season tickets held in the same household.  Some families, including mine, paid for several tickets to get the exactly same service as a family with one ticket.  And on top of everything else, there was the football……

Unlike others, Celtic chose to offer a partial refund on tickets for last season to compensate for games not played.  That is not going to happen this season for a variety of reasons.  For a start, if the season completed, a refund (optional or otherwise) would not be due.  Most significantly, they spent the money.  Our ticket revenue is not just to maintain access to the stadium, it pays for Odsonne and his pals.  I doubt a single club in Europe will offer refunds – and if I’m being brutally honest with you, the only money I want to see leaving the club is for a new manager and players.

I suspect the Trust feel the same, which is no doubt why they proposed a share issue.  It is a question worth asking – and it keeps wider share ownership on the agenda.  I can also imagine the next shareholders meeting if shares were issued on a voluntary basis!  Anyway, if you can afford it, buy shares, own a piece of Celtic (that will forever unlikely be diluted to compensate for poor value from the season ticket).

The Scottish Government is the recipient of an angry letter from Newco on social distancing measures, or the lack thereof.  “When you swim with the sharks”, springs to mind.  They are a social and health risk to the country.  Put them back in their box at the first opportunity, Celtic.  It was correct the club Tweeted last night that they are not half of anything, in reference to their bus supplier’s “half of the Old Firm” comment.  A whole lot more clarity on this and related matters would be appreciated.  If the bus suppliers gets away with dragging our name into social unrest elsewhere, what damage could the sanitaryware company do?  A line has been crossed.  There will be no end to it Celtic – unless you put an end to it……

    Thanks

In general terms I take your point concerning protecting a brand from about counterfeiting.

One of the protected items is represented by an image consisting of two metal badges. One, to the left, has an orange lion rampant within a circle, alongside, in another circle, our green 4-leafed shamrock. Above each, in bold block capitals, the words, THE OLD FIRM,.

According to the official wording, “The colours green, blue, orange and white are claimed as a feature in the first mark of the series”

Are you suggesting that should we go to court to protect our shared rights to such a piece of rubbish?

It is seriously wrong on so many levels.

A serious question just for consideration – not suggesting you’re advocating such a product.

Who in God’s name would buy such a thing???

I STILL havent had ANY Drink since October 9th last year…the day the Pubs closed…again.

Hopefully it will be weeks rather than months before the Pubs reopen…unless that Hun Mob have infected many folk since last weekend..

  4. My biggest fear is that following is correct.

The Support has kept The Faith – that Faith needs repaying in some reasonable and meaningful way. I laughed when I saw the tweet but so much more should have and could have been done to debunk, harass and frustrate the huns in their desperate deception than we ever did. The time to hit them was when we were on top….don’t get me wrong if the new guy has any clout to move things- great but I have awful doubts.

The timing of all this breaks my heart……buses, refs, media etc. This should all. have been addressed when we were on top.

It’s never too late to change, but the fact it takes the Huns winning the league to potentially bring it about is dreadful.

FWIW – I’m not sure the rugby chap will take it to them. Can you get much more ‘establishment’ than the SRU? To become chief executive would have required much brown nosing and ‘going along to get along’. I’m not convinced much will change.

Another reminder that the word ‘ultracrepidarian’ (19th century) describes someone who loves holding forth on matters they know absolutely nothing about.

  6. I understand that continuing to buy yhe trading rights to the O** F*** name might be just a defensive move but Dharma Bam @ 1:16 pm asked the most interesting question.

If the dead club had lost their rights to this term because they’re dead then why did we re-sell the rights to the new club/Clumpany to resurrect that? Why did we not keep sole ownership?

Read both movie and series,Feb.21 was series. Season 8×10 episodes for sure one or the other my money on series.(hopefully) at end of year.

  8. Sftb

When Charles green bought the basket of assets then it would be part of that – if we wanted sole ownership we would have had to by it from the administrators

  9. Jinky – go onto celticnewsnow and in one of the headers you will see videos through a twitter account.

A car rammed with 5 orcs in 2 in the front 3 in the back.

Another video of fat Alfie sitting in passenger seat of another car with a bottle of champagne all windows down in all cars and all cars packed even Slippy G’s and fans coming up to windows.

  10. I wouldn’t do no harm if our club came out and said a few things about going forward in the 21/22 season,That Parks Buses thing needs to stop ,Celtic will not take part in any dual advertising schemes, when it comes to trying get elected into the EPL we go to it alone ,we have started to make a statement we don’t associate with them so keep it up ,as some had asked about purchasing shares in the club I too would like for someone to come on here and tell me how to go about that

  11. Just read Suttons comments on Sean Dyche. Never fancied him as Celtic manager but I think now he may be a good fit. Martin O’Neil had a similar profile and maybe less than purist style of football. I think Dyche could do a similar job for us, especially in Europe.

I agree with Squire Danaher but people will “try it on” with merchandise which would damage a proper brand’s reputation and they can get a payment to go away, Registering in various categories is better protection.

  13. Of the orcs plan on gathering at paradise next week the policing is very simple. You close off the various streets approaching the stadium. You use the intelligence (I know) that tells you where they are likely to gather and prevent and disperse as many as possible arriving. The ones that get there, you let them gather but don’t let them leave. Then you arrest as many as is humanly possible. Fine every person out and about in the vicinity without cause.

You let them know in advance this is what you are doing.

TRFC should be paying the bill but we know that won’t happen.

I hope you’re well over there.

Sadly the tweet is ten years after IMO the work of a bored not a board media room tweeter.

The in-built sense of supremacy and entitlement was built up, over a hundred years and linked to their fan base being predominantly W.A.S.P generically by birthright , the people.

The liquidation of their club was when Scottish Football missed it’s open goal, a tap in chance to piss on the ashes of a 100 years of bigotry.

They’ve windmilled for a near decade, when they should have been scattered to the wind, far out at sea.

The trick was when Charles Green collected a spare football licence in 2012, ( you posted that in 2012 ) now they run amok because they are simply the best, and Scotland watches the carnage amid some embarrassing congratulations.

  16. RT – I have just sat through a 2 hour teams meeting and 1 of the items on the agenda under H & S was regarding staff car sharing and how we had an outbreak a few weeks ago and how we dealt with.

Point being NO ONE from outside your own household should be car sharing.

  17. Hi Bhoys

Re the huns behaviour and threat to continue. Why don’t the authorities fast track the ones who were arrested last week into court. Hammer them with fines and custodial sentences. Thus sending a clear message to any orcs who head for paradise what will happen to them. Also should police Scotland not make the effort to issue as many on the spot fines as possible to try and claw back some of the millions of pounds their incompetence has cost us recently in the dispute with the hun administrators.

SFTB – good one on the shared rights.

    Have privately pondered same.

Gene – your reply to SFTB entirely logical and sound.

I still don’t see though why we didn’t (very publicly) try to buy the rights from the administrator.

Zero chance of success of course.

The admin was a carve up.

I think the liquidators are suing the administrators for undervaluing the assets. Sold for 6 or was it 12 million and the IPO was £80m

  20. When we played the Huns at Ibrox in January, when our players abused. Was there any arrests?

Were there any apologies from the Huns’ board.

  21. SFTB – haven’t read back. Did we definitely sell to the new club? I assumed they bought it from the died club as part of the “basket of assets”?
