Virgil van Dijk is a class defender, one of the best we’ve seen in recent decades, but there’s no revelation in the fact that he would consider moving to the right club at a more testing league; they all would. The only pertinent fact about Virgil is that several clubs may put that to the test later this year.
The main thing to consider with Virgil is that he’s not likely to ‘Do a Kelvin’, and report as not in the right frame of mind to play, midway through Champions League qualifiers. With Jason Denayer wanted back in Manchester, it’s important Celtic retain Virgil for the qualifiers, or are sufficiently compensated before then that they can confidently secure the early signatures of prime targets.
From what I hear, Virgil’s been more than professional in his dealings with the club. He’s not running campaigns to leave and despite the plainly obvious that they would all like to play for Real Madrid, if the right move doesn’t materialise, he’ll get stuck in at Celtic for next season. So it’s not time to reminisce on favourite VVD moments yet, like the time that wee boy bounced off him at Hampden.
Trophy Day at Celtic Park is coming up on Sunday, 24 May when we play Inverness, when the Foundation will be distributing badges before the game to raise funds for the enormous work they do for the local homeless, the world’s poor, those with autism, those with Downs, and many more people and families who need your care.
You can participate in our annual Trophy Day by volunteering to work with the Foundation before kick-off. It is genuinely good fun and you get to step into the 127-year-old shoes those who have gone before you.
There are around 100 volunteers and we’re only looking for around 20 more, so get in soon by emailing cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk or calling 0141 551 4291.

Scrolled back, saw contributions from I think The Silent Scream, Jungle,Diddle Dee and a few other strange ones. This place is becoming like The Mad Hatters Tea Party. There may be only one or two Hatters but with multiple monikers and these guy/guys talking to themselves any new lurkers would be quickly disenchanted with site.
Its a selfish childish form of cyber vandalism and if its left unchecked will do serious damage to the reputation of the site.

I wouldn’t worry. Most of them are Kev. For some reason he keeps coming on with a new name. Reminds me of when I was a kid and my cousin Brian decided one day he’d be a chicken – went round clucking all day. But the next day he was Brian again. Happens all the time…

All scientific knowledge is theoretical – that’s why it can never be immutable fact. And scientific theories can never be proven – only disproven. Facts take the form of statements such as :
The huns are deid.
Celtic are the Champions.
etc…

Well i can see it happening very easy btw
Denayer’s all but gone, and if we’re offered a fee of 10M for Van Dyke he’s gone also.
The spin would then be Lustig (who i’m ok with) and Mulgrew as C/H’s for the Q/rounds.
Mulgrew would have all of us behind the couch counting down the minutes.

Burgas,
Nah not for me.
Virgil (and/or Denayer) will play in the qualifiers and if not, a Virgil type fee will be paid on a replacement.

Brian ?
He’s not a chicken he a very naughty boy.
All this talk of artists – and no mention of our own young old master Van Dijk who paints a portrait of easy defending ;-)

CHAIRMAN of the Scottish Senior Football Referees Association James Bee has leapt to the defence of John Beaton after the whistler was ‘headbutted’ while taking charge of a Saudi Arabian title decider.
Didn’t hear much from him when McLean could have done with a right good head butting.

No holding a minute from me. You may not like it but it is the truth of the matter.
It is my view whether you agree or disagree.
==========
Your view on the matter is no more the truth than mine.
What I’m objecting to is you using something I said to support your “truth” and adding a layer to it that to me suggests JF was the architect of the Roadshows.
I think they would have happened regardless of what suggestions were discussed so it’s unfair on JF and I to make that construct.
As regards the actual Roadshows themselves I’m not sure what the alternatives were, so cannot argue one way or another.
Good Afternoon
Tin hat on
I don;t think Vigil is the best centre back in our team. There I have said it. He is a cracking centre back and he is also a very good ball player but at 19 years old The Denayer is a great centre back and will get better. VVD pulled the wool over our eyes before. He will be offski. Don;t be conned by any of his comments. He wants his move to make the Dutch team. Don;t blame him and I think with an experienced partner he will get better and better. The Bhoy is a class act. Great with the ball at his feet and has an eye for goal. He still has a bit to learn about defending though. He will learn that with an experienced man by his side who has been there and seen it all. John Terry at Chelski is the type of man to get Virgil to the next level (I would not want him going there). Hope Virgil makes the right move and if we get offered £10m I will drive him there myself. Soton maybe wouldn’t be a bad move for him. Victor and Forster are already there and Koeman is a smart man.
If a big club are to take a punt I hope it is Arsenal. The big fella would fit in there with their passing game. He does have to learn more about defending though. Just my own opinion.
I would ensure all our efforts are put into ensuring that Jason ‘The’ Denayer would benefit from another season in the SPFL and Europe with Celtic whilst getting another 50+ first team games under his belt. That Bhoy can defend and will only get better. Both have been great for Celtic this year but when tested in Europe it has been tough for them to step up. Understandable and by no means a criticism. I think Virgil is right in his interview IF it is indeed his words. He has learned all he can where he is he must now step up and play against better players to become better himself. If he goes he goes with my best wishes and I hope he achieves lots in the game.
I would bring in an old head. Always handy to have one around especially at the back. Experience is vital. I would also bring in another player in the VVD mould. Young, strong silky on the ball, pacey but hungry for sucess and eager to learn.
I have said many times before when Ledley, Hooper, Forster, Victor, etc. Any player that can start regularly for an EPL side will only stay at Celtic for around 3 years tops. You are talking huge exposure down south. More endorsements, international recognition, boot deals, less hassle and crazy wages! This is everything the modern player strives.
I hope the targets are identified and are being sought after now. I noticed today that Hertz are ready to pay £350k for a CB from Croatia. Very interesting from the born again New wee Huns. A notice of intent to the Sheep, Arabs and others.
Could be a lot more interesting on the home front next season with 2 competitive very decent sides coming up.
Celtic may even win the treble and win the European Cup if a certain club appear, after all for the last few seasons we have been told Celtic need a strong Rangers (Sevco).
I am certain we will face the new season without Virgil though. Might hang around for the qualifiers but as others have said if a team are willing to deal at a certain wage then you have to get the deal done. We should coast the first round we enter with our reserves anyway. (Hope that doesn;t bite me on the erse!!!!)

Chris Torey – Sorry for calling you names brother.
The Pope theory is strange, strange, strange.
See when the likes of the Guardian, the BBC, the Huffington Post,Time Magazine, Washington Post, New York Times etcetera are continually heaping praise upon the Pope – alarm bells immediately ring.
Not sure if the Pope is a Mason, or not.
He is the first black Pope though.
According to the work of the likes of Saint Malachy, this is the sign that the end is near.

Clean sheets and under 17’s are phrases rarely heard in the same sentence :)
I expect one centre back to be purchased. think if we qualify Virgil will stay. If not Celtic will, out of necessity, take the cash for VVD, just ad we did with Forster.
