Think what you will of Celtic, Gladback won’t fancy it

284

Playing away domestically after a Champions League away game is statistically the time you are most likely to drop points, so Manchester City’s defeat at Tottenham was unsurprising.  The manner of Barcelona’s defeat at Celta de Vigo, 4-3 after being 3-0 down at halftime, was distinctly out of character, but showed signs of their exertions in Germany on Wednesday.

Borussia Monchengladback’s 4-0 defeat at Schalke, who were bottom of the Bundesliga having lost all previous five games, was the shock of German football this week.  Gladback have one game before coming to Celtic Park, home to Hamburg, who took over Schalke’s mantle at the bottom of the table, with one point from six games this season.

Borussia are the only team from Celtic’s Champions League group who will be rattled by their weekend reversal; Barcelona and Manchester City will take the defeat in their stride.  It’s unlikely they will drop points to Hamburg on 15th October.  Their defeat to Barcelona was the first competitive game at home they’ve failed to win since January, while it’s been straight away defeats this season for Hamburg, but as we know, playing bottom of the league is a no-win scenario for a Champions League team.

There will be a hangover from that 4-0 defeat, one which will be allowed to fester for a fortnight.  Think what you will of Celtic, but the prospect of travelling to Glasgow in two weeks will not be relished in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Before heading off for the Great Scottish Run yesterday I read through the donations to the Celtic Foundation.  There’s nothing more effective than putting the wind at your back than knowing a lot of people put whatever they could afford into supporting the Foundation’s cause.

It was a brilliant day.  The green competitors’ t-shirts with the Foundation’s Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty written across the back were storming through the streets of Glasgow in force.  Well done to all.

Thanks to everyone who supported all of us.  The MyDonation’s page hasn’t closed, yet, but this will be the last call, honestly!

Thanks also the lady who while out pushing a go-chair with her child in town yesterday, took off my shoe and bent back my toe.  Over and above the call of duty – but it was that kind of day.

Here is the link to vote for the Golden Boy 2016

Moussa Demeble is currently on 8 %

Sorry if this has already been on the site.

  2. Just like to say a big thank you to jobo and Marc for the great work that they do on last man standing .

  3. MOONBEAMS, I started on machine code programming, ie numbers only, advanced to PLAN which was semi English, then on to COBOL. After that mini and micro computers came in and keyboards and screens. Software companies provided basic business systems but needed the likes of myself to tailor it to customer requirements using SQL or JAVA .

  4. Just back from the FAc meeting where I was re-assured that my consultation WILL be accepted even though I ranted a bit. (who’s surprised there?)

The mood was quite positive that we are winning the “write-in” vote via the consultations but there is a concern that the Holyrood governing party’s machine politics will generate a lot of last minute returns in favour of keeping the act. They have said that we will have to show, through being a majority in favour of repeal, something that will make them change their stance. So, if there is no overwhelming submissions in favour of repeal, there will be no appetite to allow it to be repealed.

Therefore, we need even more of you to take just a little time to make the return.

If long forms daunt you, just give your contact details and then complete the 5 questions on Sections 1-5 showing you are in favour of repeal- that is just 5 ticks- then just scroll through to the end and press SUBMIT. It can be done in less than a minute.

If you do have the time, give out your reasons- someone will provide a link to the crib sheet later.

Finally, you can complete this consultation:-

Even if you are under 18- as you can still be affected by the Act.

Even if you do not live in Scotland- you can still be affected if you ever decide to come to Scotland to watch a game of football.

Even if you are pro-SNP and that would be especially welcome as it would show there are voices within the party willing to criticise them on this point.

    Here’s where you can complete

Know (or thought) you were jesting my little green fhriend. To compound the mortal sin just went for the Occupied six (and the same rationale applies). Won’t be distraught if San Marino win. At least their supporters won’t be so relishing being up to their knees in my blood that they have to sing about it.

    How ya doing?

I hope that SB has been misquoted in that article ….otherwise I think it reflects more poorly on him than on RD (who, admittedly, wasn’t the best coach Celtic have ever had)

The performances last season were pretty poor, and I agree that RD had to go, but to blame it all on RD’s training seems unfair to me. And the article does come across as an attempt to excuse the players from their (fair) share of responsibility for what happened last season.

From what I saw, even after he left, RD handled himself with class, and didn’t throw the players under the bus (although we all heard the stories about certain players last season). He deserves the same consideration from the players.

Even if SB may have been intending to compliment BR, he had to know that his comments would be taken as a slam against RD (particularly by the MSM). Dont give them the ammunition

And most imprtantly, to me, it didn’t look like a lot of the players were trying as hard as they could last season. If a player isnt working or training hard enough, he should firstly be looking at the person in the mirror, not anyone else; if training isnt hard enough, simple, do extra training.

Gearoid …. dont beat yourself up …. and I’m not just saying that because I also picked the six counties …. MO’N seems like a good guy and a good coach, so I hope he and his teams d well … and there are some good guys in that team who I would like to see do well.

Unless the HMSC Zombie, and all who sail in her … doomed to eternal darkness ….

and, yes, I am just bitter because I picked the zombies in LMS previously, and it was one of the very few games that they didn’t cheat to win …. never trust a zombie….. :)

IMO the players weren’t giving their all for Ronny, I think that is obvious, a new manager may well have made a difference, but the difference is palpable, RD didn’t have the baws to challange them.

Broonies visit to London to meet BR was the writing on the wall for him, it worked for BR and I think Broonie knew that BR had their cards marked.

Shame in a way, but tis the way of the world, you need the balls.

TET … my sense is that RD was a bit over his head, and was probably too nice a man for the job. He may have had his faults, but I thought he always represented himself and the club with class (even when he had internet numpties like me calling for his job). For that, I give him credit. I hope he does well in his future jobs.

If the suits give BR a decent % of the cash he is making for the PLC he won’t, if they are going to go down the path of the team on the park are what makes money for the PLC then it’s a no brainer, they will invest the decent %, but as we know the suits haven’t been the most forthcoming over the years, I won’t be holding the breath, I am not complaining btw, am delighted how things are going, but as a Celtic supporter over many decades I have learned not to be too complaicent and a chicken counter.

You both may have a point that the players did not work hard for RD.

But to be a successful coach you have to be ruthless and implement your chosen system with the players at your disposal.

Those that refused should have been banished from the first team squad.

The team is paramount and that requires a strong coach to earn respect of players.

If there are no consequences for dissenting players than the team will fracture.

A coach also has to be realistic about players at his disposal and and tailor system to this.

RD was not strong or capable enough to deal with the adversity he faced from outwith and within Celtic park.

The reality is that the team underperformed in his tenure and he could not implement the product he described.

Hopefully a very tough learning experience will improve the weaknesses in his coaching and he will go on to great success as he seems a very nice man.

Fan-a-tic … hard to argue with what you are saying. Usually, to succeed at that level – whether in football, or otherwise – a certain level of singlemindedness, if not ruthlessness, is required.

As you say, hopefully, RD learns from his time at Celtic, and goes on to do well… but as TET says, hopefully, it is not at Celtic’s expense!

Otherwise, all well with you, I hope. With the team looking better generally, and all of the players looking better, you softening any on NB? :)

  14. HT and sFTB. I completed the consultation form some time ago. Thanks for your work on this matter.

I am concerned that the debate of strict liability will be used by the SNP as a Trojan horse to retain the act.

One for us all to look out for.

  15. Neganon

Strict Liability was discussed at the meeting. I agree with the gentleman who believes it’s the SNP hedging their bets that the Act will be repealed. This would be the replacement.

  16. Neg Anon

It was mentioned tonight and FAC are well aware of its intentions.

It is being proposed by Mr. Dornan MSP for Cathcart and a man with previous as a party apparatchik willing to adopt any position that suits the powerbrokers in his party.

We need some of the more sensible SNP MSPs like Tommy Shepherd to break ranks and call out for sense in his own party’s dogmatic position.

But I won’t hold my breath.

As MiT says can’t argue with you on that.

I recall many years ago being in a position where I was the bloke in the middle having to keep a multitude of people happy, my workers, my bosses, the customers, the council whom we were working for, it was a nightmare, RD or any manager is in the same position, just a different set of people who they have to keep happy, I have massive admiration for a manager hence I will struggle to slag them no matter.

One thing I did have was the balls, I never liked getting rid, esp when the sob story came out, but you are only as good as those around you and to succeed you have to be ruthless, or you are for the chop.

Ha ha i knew the Nir question was coming.

He has been better in some areas of his.passing forward and movement.

But his positional sense is still suspect and he still gives the silly fouls away and for a big fella his tackling is poor.

If you look at most goals we give away it is usually down the centre so protection of defense is still not good.

So he is better but not suited to the role he plays for us.

Brendan was quoted last week as saying he knows what areas he has to upgrade and i expect the central midfield area will be his priority.

Watched Spurs beat City yesterday and couldn’t help thinking we would have won easily on Wednesday if Wanyama had played in Nirs position.

  20. Just watched the wee Jinky programme, floods of tears here……..inspirational, emotional stuff.Great footage of the old stadium and surroundings, we are lucky to have had the great men that The Lisbon Lions were, play for our club. A true Band of Brothers.

    Good work fellas!

    General question:

If OBFA is repealed what examples of strict liability are there that arent covered under existing laws?

Im confused about what kind of crimes OBFA “covered” that we are talking about?

or are you saying that precisely because of strict liability it wont be repealed?
