This guy was the real deal

334

I had to smile at Simon Donnelly’s comparison of Henrik Larsson to Kenny Dalglish. Until Henrik came along, The New Dalglish was the reference point for any great prospect. And a few not-so-great ones.

Simon himself was one prominent recipient of this title. Back in 1994 Lou Macari’s Celtic were as bad as we’d been since the 50s when the teenage Donnelly burst onto the scene with five goals in the final 12 league games of the season. He was famously hailed as the new Dalglish, a comparison which was shown to be absurd during the barren season which followed.

When Henrik pitched up in Glasgow in 1997 all those comparisons must have crystallised for Simon. This guy was the real deal.

Although some starts shone brighter than others, both of them played their part in the historic title win in 1998. Celtic fans will never know a time like that again. When Simon, Henrik and friends gather for the Foundation game in May, more than a few of us will recall that titanic season.

On the subject of memorable league title wins…….

He got shunted for appealing publicly to those governing the allies in WWII,that they should send a second front to help Russia fight the Nazis.

Correctly IMO Chaplin seen the Russians as ordinary humans fighting something that was truly evil. This was too much to stomach for some at the time. He was branded a communist sympathiser.

He rose to stardom from very humble beginnings, which he never forgot. Genius can be misused at times, but that’s what he was.

    Not so sure.

Churchill announced that he would support Stalin in `41 and was never accused of being a fellow traveller. :-)

I think that it was related more to later events and announcements.

Agreed , though. His hounding out of the U.S. probably in relation to early `50s Mc Carthyism was disgraceful

    From War History Online.

Britain’s response to the German offensive was swift. On the day of Operation Barbarossa, Winston Churchill made a radio broadcast to the people of Britain assuring them that “any man or state who fights against Nazism will have our aid”.

Churchill’s message was clear, even his anti-communist sentiments would not stop him from declaring Britain’s full support of the Soviet Union. In the broadcast, Churchill proclaimed that “We (the British) are resolved to destroy Hitler and every vestige of the Nazi regime”. Churchill also went to the length of saying “If Hitler invaded hell , I would at least make a favorable reference to the devil in the House of the Commons”.

  13. Thank God for Keech Jackson and his RAG for his ability to impersonate a “Journalist” yet again. Where would we be without him, who brings us Clarity and Truth on a daily basis ?

Here’s his latest offering and his Ipox ” Sources” –

Rangers insiders have moved to dismiss claims of a boardroom meltdown.

Social media has gone into a frenzy over online and newspaper reports which wrongly claim three directors have left the club.

The Ibrox regime yesterday lodged documents with Companies House in which it was stated that appointments of Paul Murray , John Gilligan and Graeme Park had been ‘terminated’, while releasing a statement which described the changes as nothing more than some minor internal house-keeping.

But this was met with a wave of speculation the club was on the brink of a full-scale crisis in the boardroom after a ‘night of the long knives’.

However, the Daily Record can reveal the truth of the matter is a lot less dramatic and can be explained as follows.

When chairman Dave King and his allies first secured control of Rangers in March 2015 the club’s hierarchy was split across two different companies, the main RIFC board – formerly referred to as the PLC board – and the TRFC board which was commonly known as the football board, in charge of day-to-day operations.

The RIFC board is headed by King as chairman and also includes another five non-executive directors, Murray, Gilligan, Park and his father Douglas as well as John Bennett. Ultimately, these are the men who control the last line of the club’s decision-making process and are in charge of hiring and firing.

But Murray, Gilligan and Graeme Park also held seats on the board of the TRFC, alongside two paid executives, managing director Stewart Robertson and administrative director Andrew Dickson.

And it’s been recognised for some time that these dual roles did, in fact, represent a conflict of interests.

With a director of football set to be added to the TRFC board it was felt that now would be an ideal moment to draw a distinct line between the two bodies. Which is why the positions of Murray, Park and Gilligan on that secondary board have now been terminated.

A source explained: “Basically, this is no more than a tidying up of the club’s internal structure in the interest of sound corporate governance.

“It means there is a distinct line between the board of TRFC which will be made up entirely of executives and whose job it will be to run the club on a day-to-day basis.

“But the performance of these paid employees will in turn be monitored and judged by the directors on the RIFC board. It made little sense to have non-executive directors with a foot in both camps having to judge their own performances.

“The changes, while not essential, are in the best interests of the club’s corporate governance. To suggest this is part of some kind of dramatic restructuring of the boardroom would be quite frankly absurd.”

So there we have it ?

“Sevco……………and “SOUND CORPORATE GOVERANCE” ????? Never could I imagine that description with the mankies in the same context ?

Also…..” The Daily Record can reveal the truth” ??????

Outstanding journalism by Keech J, yet again. No explanation or truth mentioned of how their fan groups are demanding answers from The RST and The SOS, who apparently being accused of ” being in concert with” King and his cronies to use Ipox and Murray Park as “Security” for loans, which is precisely what they claimed should NEVER happen , especially after Dear lovable rogue Mikey Ashley suggested the same ” security” route a while back ?

More hypocrisy anyone ? They never learn do they .

Reluctantly convinced by Clark Kerr, Churchill agreed to attend a final meeting with Stalin that night. The formal part of the encounter went as badly as before, with Stalin once again insisting that the British had ‘promised’ to launch a second front during 1942, and Churchill once again insisting they hadn’t.

    Rubbish.

    Specify.”

My post is full of specific references- I even provided a checklist of why I found the article, linked by The Donald, to tick all the racist boxes. They even outline their racist intentions in the ir own aims which I linked in their own words.

Now, where was your detailed rebuttal of those highlighted secifics? Calling something rubbish is hardly a forensic rebuttal. The lack of specifics is a criticism more justly leveled at your criticism. If I have a mote- you have a beam.

Precisely where is my denial ?

Forgive me! I interpreted your statement to The Donald that “You had read the article and wished you hadn’t” as a statement that you had read the site and dissociated from the views expressed in it. I thought that was you clearly distancing yourself from the content which is why my points were directed at The Donald and the website but you crossed the road to take joint offence at what you called my “clear implications”

Maybe I got you wrong and your statement to The Donald meant something else- either that you agreed with the view point or, worse still, agreed with it and were saddned by the “truth” it contained. If so, I think you would be off the correspondence list of most decent people.

You made a cheap attempt to sully the reputation of some CQN bloggers.

    For your own childish purposes.

Nothing childish about opposing racism- people die as a result of the inconstrained rise of fascism. And I could not further sully the rep of The Donald who has sullied and defecated on his own rep in his own words.

Accuse the poster of what ?

Erm, specify?? Which poster? What accusation?

I accused The Donald of linking to a racist website containing racist views. I accused you of merely denying that it was racist (it was just fake news- you suggested)

No, the selective bolding was to avoid the charge of distortion. The bolded words were my own commentary- the rest was the words of the website itself- unchanged and not interfered with- except for the addition of (sic) to show that the grammatical fault was that of the website writer.

Away to yer bed and make a firm purpose of amendment.

I have now made the amendments, such as were needed. It is now time for you to clarify your position.

For me, you have reacted like the Lennon Embra trial jury. The witness itself (the website) has admitted its aim was to promote the interests of the white race (whatever that concept is in reality). You have stated that they are not guilty of this intention, even when they admit it themselves.

If you are inclined to give any detail rather than shout rubbish, please do not demean yourself by equating this to the NAACP as any form of equivalence.
