This is a dead football club

899

We are five days away from the end of the season, Duff and Phelps have spent 10 weeks trying to solicit an offer for the assets of the company and the only one they were in a position to consider has now been withdrawn.

The stadium remains in Craig Whyte’s hands.

The SPL has not offered a place in the league.

The players can choose to become free agents on Sunday.

Duff and Phelps have no money to pay anyone or anything after 31 May.

Are you getting the picture?

Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later, or ‘Rangers to benefit from Miller withdrawal’ you read about tomorrow, not one piece of positive news has gone Rangers way in weeks.

This is a dead football club. If there was an accountancy term beyond liquidation, perhaps uber-liquidation, they would be uber-liquidated (there’s not, but if this gets any worse the English language will need some re-work).

Yesterday’s delay was the most complete confirmation possible, for anyone still harbouring doubt, today’s message from Miller should be no surprise to Celtic Quick News readers.

Miller’s parting shot:

“After hearing the message from Rangers supporters and fans loud and clear (“Yank go home!”), I notified the administrators today that I have withdrawn my bid for Rangers”.

…has the makings of a topic for a business doctorate, if anyone is looking for one.  I’d elaborate but reckon we’re all a little carried away at the moment for serious debate.

The histrionics since yesterday and, if you don’t mind me saying, lack of appreciation of these historic times, would dishonour teenage girls (no offense teenage girls).

Please stop with all the silliness, indignation and faux trauma.  Some football supporters have real issues to worry about.

The great dignified Scottish sporting institution has been reduced to such a level of mind-numbing stumbling incompetence they couldn’t pick up crabs in Betty’s bar.

    Dim White saying..

Bill Miller been subject to thousands of emails from huns warning him not to buy the huns.

Rangers supporters deserve transparency in a moment of crisis, not PR bluster extolling bids out of nowhere and stupid deadlines.

Got to say love the fact the Miller re-acted to the knuckle draggers telling him to take a hike, nothing like biting the hand that feeds you.

No wonder the peepil are angry, MSM are causing this, I think they should be told and UEFA should remove Duff and Phelps, forthwith.

Amazing how things can look different in 24 hours, isn’t it ?

Honestly, I have been writing about Rangers financial plight for four years, through title wins long after they should have been dead, through buying players they could not afford, through the days we are in now, where the team behind Soap are running the show, and crafting stuff they would not have dared put on the show.

Throughout all of it, until Miller came along, I could not see a way they could survive without a piece of blatant rule-bending so incredible there would be an outcry. Miller’s plan seemed to be such a piece of sleight of hand, a move so brass-necking I could barely believe it.

Yet I believed it could – maybe would – work. No matter how scandalous and blatant it looked, it looked as if people were willing to waive this guy through the starting gate. Could the plan have worked long term? Doubtful, but Rangers would have been in the SPL, and probably with minimal sanctions.

Now? Jesus … Now, I haven’t got a clue. I’ve been writing about this for years, waiting for it, hoping for it, dying to see it … and then I thought the rug was getting pulled. Now? What now? Hell … I have no idea.

The administrators “three new bids” story is fantastically entertaining, a clear sop to the Rangers fans to help them wrap their brains around this shambles, this appalling mess, but once again they look a hair’s breath from being dead.

I love that he has blamed their fans though. That’s the cherry for me.

But what now? For the first time I am honestly too stunned to even think about it. One thing is for sure; yesterday I was dreading the next phase in this, the phase where Miller’s plan went into motion, where the SPL would certainly have waved it through, where the SFA was already making plans.

Now I can’t wait for the next installment. This … this is too crazy. I can barely wrap my brain around how ridiculous this has become. These are not great days for journalism, for the game’s governing bodies, for the Rangers fans … but boy, oh boy, they are exciting times for us!

  23. STV………………….. are claiming that three new bidders have come forward inside 35 minutes of Millers statement, – when they had none in five years?
