This is just the next step for The Celtic Triangle

493

You win five-in-a-row and go 24 points clear but it’s not until you propose to build an architecturally pleasing hotel and museum that the penny begins to drop with some that you are, in fact, an exceptionally well run football club.

I loved reading how we are interpreted on the other side of the city in yesterday’s CQN Magazine article, Simply Depressed:

“Commercially trolling us now. Light years ahead in income plans.

“It’s a source of revenue (and a fantastic bit of PR)….. It can pull an entire local community together and actually create new followers.

“If we ever get our act together, it will take years if at all to get anywhere near them financially, we can slaughter Lhiewell (sic.) all we want, but the bottom line is he is delivering for them.

“It’s a good initiative, having a hotel allows you to have certain events that were not previously possible. Media and corporate sponsorship will increase, new hospitality packages will be created, money from concerts will increase, supporters will hire function rooms and stay the nights more often.

“Just feel we are getting left behind commercially and will be seen as the poor football relation in Glasgow…this one highlights the growing gap between us and them it’s depressing.”

Pulling this together has taken years. Internal voices have dampened expectations during this period, a few times over the years I’ve heard: “There’s a long way to go, remember “floating pitches and super-casinos”” – a valuable lesson, thanks, Sir David. Celtic didn’t want to break ranks on this until the necessary money and commercial partnerships were lined up.

Don’t think this will see The Celtic Triangle finished, either, this is just the next step. The club have learned lessons from every noteworthy stadium of every sport in the world. European club football facilities miles behind where top US sports are at present.

We’re not there yet, but we’re on the road, and this is one journey that’s very enjoyable.

Ronnie was a poor appointment made stupidly from a base were he was interviews for an assistants position.

We all know this already. He was a cheap, in Peters back pocket appt.

No amount of supposed planning can camouflage that. Unless of course you believe Neil Lennon to be a liar with regards the initial Ronny role.

    _____________

I don’t think anybody denies that Ronny was lined up to be Lennon’s number 2. There was a plan agreed with NL and he went back on his word. Celtic were left unexpectedly without a coach and Ronny was already there.

I don’t think Ronny is a terrible coach but I think he could have used more experience before taking on the Celtic job.

It wasn’t ideal. I only regret that the board couldn’t have kept NL for longer (ie. pay him the sort of money we are paying Brendan)

  4. Paul67 etal,

I promised to write a wee story on something that happened in my life a couple of years before CQN come into being.

I had a bout of food poisoning when I was living on a boat my brother and I had. As my brother was on holiday in Ireland at the time I had the food poison I had to stay on the boat and suffered for 5 days with this food poison, I recovered and went home when able, not knowing I had damaged my insides, but feeling fine I went back to the boat but came home every day

About 8 months later I had a pain that wouldn’t go away so decided to go to my doctor and ask if I could get something for the pain, he prescribed a painkiller for me.

I picked up my prescription at the chemist and went home, took the prescribed dose and within half an hour I became very ill, luckily enough I called the doctor when I felt ill,

while talking to him regarding the medicine I felt dizzy and must have conked out, luckily my door was unlocked and he must have just come up stairs and found me with the phone on my shoulder out for the count.

I woke up in the hospital with the doctors trying to bring me back, next day I underwent an operation to cut out part .of my intestines that had been damaged with the food poisoning That I had eight months previously. I was in intensive care for 10 days then general ward for a couple of weeks, then home to the garden, That first day in hospital I had the last rites of the Church, but God must not have wanted me at the time and I pulled through.

After I was discharged I went to the Doctor thanking him for his help, He said that I was very lucky that I had called him regarding the medicine, when he arrived he told me that he had entered the house and I had the phone at my ear and had stopped breathing.

Yes I was very lucky. I’ve thought about it a few times, I wouldn’t have got on CQN and met many of the friends. that I have now.

And to think that I may get the chance to book a room in the Celtic Hotel when it opens.

  5. I saw the Daily Record’s front page today which surprised me in that it was about the Rangers EBT tax appeal being heard at the Supreme Court next month.

I was surprised because the Record were claiming something of an exclusive, despite this from us in December.

    http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/supreme-court-sets-the-dates-for-bdos-big-tax-case-appeal/

That loathsome Phantom character, “coincidentally” launched a new blog today on the Supreme Court. Apparently it is all about HMRC grabbing the money from the Rangers creditors, nothing to do with the ‘same club’, Phil, Clumps, James Forrest etc are all obsessed, Rangers have assurances from SPFL that LNS won’t be revisited and talk of title stripping is mad stuff etc

On another level as Phil would say.

    This is the dark media.

That the Daily Record participates in this, knowingly or otherwise, is a disgrace.

That Celtic continue to work with this company, on for instance, the Celtic View, just baffles me.

The lines are being drawn, the barricades are being prepared to defend LNS.

Title stripping is their last stand.

  6. I was a fan of Ronny and wanted him to do well. But you’ve got to say, look at Valerenga since he’s taken over – they’re rooted to the bottom of the Eliteserien…

    Sad to see.

  8. WC

That may be their last stand, however if Celtic made it clear that in their opinion a club cannot survive liquidation in a football or business sense then that blows the continuation theory out the water, they become a new club. I doubt the SPFL will revisit LNS post Supreme Court Hearing even if HMRC get the decision upheld, as they know it would cost a fortune in compensation to the cheated clubs and their credibilty if they have any would be destroyed.

In Ronny’s defence he can spot a player( or two).

He might not get the best out of them when he spots them, but that’s another story.

    I wish him well.

  11. MWD

I think you missed my point which is that it is an over simplification to say what the motivations for appointing RD were, without taking all circumstances into account.

It was a mistake with hindsight and a gamble that failed but pointing out there are other factors is not camouflaging anything, unless you are arguing the disappearance of RFC significantly lowered the immediate risk of winning titles and was not a factor in the decision?

I could argue that there still is no risk of title loss but this time we got the right guy to match the develop and sell policy who was available. What differed or did we overestimate the risk to title TRFC represented?

There would be some irony in getting the wrong manager but then the right one because the first risk assessment was correct and the second one wrong.

I tried to address the factors in manager recruitment in an earlier blog that got little response but perhaps that’s because it was not judged as a camouflage job.

  12. *Clears throat to speak in best smart arse tone*

Actually, it is spelled Vålerenga and “å” is the last letter of the Norwegian alphabet.

So Vålerenga after Viking was Davidopoulos’s cry!

  13. Winning Captains

If the appeal is lost, then, by the logic used by LNS, namely, that other clubs could have used EBTs, therefore Rangers(1872-2012) obtained no sporting advantage through them, titles would have to be stripped, as a clear sporting advantage would have been established, a massive one at that, given the duration of illegal EBT use and the amount of players involved.

Weren’t the actions of the dead club described as just short of match- fixing?

You wonder why any judge would think the other clubs should have gone anywhere near that behaviour, but a failed appeal will show that one did.

  14. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

In 2011 the Odd midfielder Jone Samuelson scored with a header from inside his own half.

If Ronny had introduced that tactic to the SPL we’d be unveiling his statue in the ole triangle.

  15. Well said Brendan

Hotels and restaurants and all the razamatazz around them are all very well but we always need to keep our eyes on the prize. And today the very big news about our team was our manager´s brilliant analysis of the refereeing situation in Scotland. The prize is an entertaing and thrilling 90 minutes of sport and that is what our manager is trying to promote…let´s market it!

I am speaking from afar from Paradise in Madrid and what I have seen last season and this season at the matches I attend here in this city is a level of incompetence and irresponsibility from referees which can only be matched in Scotland. Or which other countries have worse refereeing? My greatest concern as a fan now is the dangers the players are putting themselves into when it seems you literally need to have your leg broken to get a free kick. Players are fitter and stronger and faster than ever. I´m still trying to get over how physical teams like PSV Eindhoven are, their central defenders were like wardrobes. So when I read today´ s words from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers about the need to protect the skilful players in the game like young Tierney I could have cried. Mr Rodgers has just shot up in my estimation and he was already sky high. He is doing a service to WORLD Football. Joe Hart´s recent injury comes to mind, And Joe played through it!! The Terry Butcher´s of the day did nothing to stop this, making a joke out of it with the blood stained bandages and now we have to get the face masks, what next a helmet like Peter Chech’s? In the EPL and SPL players throw themselves into challenges and Brendan Rodgers understands it´s a physical game, and he refers to the hard but fair games with Aberdeen. However the ref has to PROTECT the players from over-aggressive players. I really hope other managers back Brendan´s take on this because if not Scotland will lose its talents to the hard men. Everybody is accountable, referees too. Best wishes to all at CQN

Read that blog and thought “pre-emptive strike””in lead up to case.

It’s going to take a bit of united work across all clubs to make sure that if HMRC win and SPFL dont act the SPFL face another fans ST boycott.

Celtic in light of all they know (which SPFL and SFA know too see TJN report) cannot afford to stay with their silence policy if HMRC win. They have much more than titles to lose.

It is the sort of issue that they should now be in talks with the CSA CST and Aflliation plus influential bloggers to decide strategy on that (and Res12.)

The SPFL should be pressuring TRFC to do the right thing too. It’s them (One club) or us (The Rest of Scottish football) at stake is the argument that should be put to them.

  17. Good to see Brendan speak out about the horrific career threatening tackles being made against our players. Especially big JFK who I think would have been a wonderful player & a Celtic great. I worry about young KT

  18. SSN just showed the “tackles” on KT and Sinky. Both horrendous and potentially career ending. Brendan making the case that players need to be protected. So called ref – DullArse – please take note!

  19. To be fair Jim White said they were horrendous tackles

(never thought the words fair and jim white would ever be in the same sentence)

  20. MIT. The responses I get are very human. People believe I am somehow attacking a thing they love and their instinct is to attack (not to question). I have face this professionally for years. It’s normal. A bit childlike but totally normal.

Auldheid. I am not professing that the appointment of RD was all wrong and just to save money. But for me it represented all that is wrong at Celtic. A lack of genuine ambition. A dearth of care about people. A focus solely on the bottom line.

I think the board and paul67 are arrogant and lazy in their thinking. I am willing to be proven wrong. But the fact that the knee jerk reaction from Paul is to slam the phrase speculate to accumulate as so,show wrong doesn’t fill me with confidence. Res 12 is a case in point. Corruption and profit over decency. Wow.

It may be great that Celtic are moving on. But wouldn’t it be even better if they actually though the support were involved in the thinking and vision.

The msm and Scottish society is what it is. I won’t repeat it all again. But if the Celtic board really had a vision what would be wrong in sharing it?
