“Dear Friends
“Celtic FC Foundation’s Annual Christmas Appeal reflects the very heart of the Club’s charitable and humble beginnings. It proudly follows in the footsteps of Brother Walfrid, providing comfort to those who need it most.”
So starts the letter from Celtic FC Foundation Head of Fundraising, Jane Maguire, as she confirmed this year’s Christmas appeal raised an incredible £220,000.
What are the consequences of this?
373 families in Glasgow, Coatbridge, Bellshill and Girvan, facing poverty and hardship, received significant help.
50 pensioners in the north and east of the city received a Christmas voucher, while kids in the same area received gifts through PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid).
130 clients of The Simon Community were given a Christmas lunch.
Children living with long-term health conditions at the Glasgow Children’s Hospital received what on some occasions will be their most significant Christmas gift.
Glasgow East Women’s Aid received a Christmas meal and gifts for families at the refuge.
Vulnerable refugees received support through the Scottish Refugee Council.
Glasgow City Mission’s Foodbank received support; they work with an average of 60 households per week.
Loaves & Fishes and Spirit Aid received Christmas hampers and toys for their work with homeless families.
The Wayside Club, Glasgow’s 365 day venue for the homeless received help in providing hot food for the very needy.
The Foundation and Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing (more on them later) split the cost of a £10,800 van to allow The Invisibles to carry out their important work.
Parkhead Salvation Army’s work was supported again this year.
St Roch’s Foundation’s meals for the homeless and pensioners between Christmas and New Year will be supported.
Glasgow Night Shelter, who provide food and a safe place for homeless refugees, some of societies more marginalised, were helped.
The Elpis Centre’s work for vulnerable young women was aided.
400 kids received a Christmas Party at Celtic Park.
Oban’s Hope Kitchen’s work to provide food and shelter has been funded.
The People’s Kitchen, Newcastle, who aid the homeless and vulnerable was helped – recognition, perhaps, of the incredible work the Tyneside No.1 Celtic Supporters Club do for the Foundation.
Children in Poverty Inverclyde received clothing, books and toys, as well as a trip to Santa’s Grotto, in consultation with another great club, the Greenock CSC.
Grampian Women’s Aid, Moray Firth Radio’s Cash for Kids, St John the Evangelist’s work (Cumnock), North Ayrshire Women’s Aid, Fife Gingerbread, the Eric Liddle Centre (Edinburgh) were all helped in their work.
Women’s Aid in Dublin, Belfast and Lisburn were each aided.
The Foundation are funding the Northern Ireland Hospice’ Teenage Weekends project for 2017.
Kids at the school in Whitechapel, London, where Bro Walfrid taught, were taken to a pantomime.
London and the South East’s needy were helped through various projects:
Cardinal Hume Centre
Neighbours of Poplar
Hillingdon Cherubs (neonatal work)
Readi-Bank Foodbank
Camden New Journal Appeal
Wimbledon Children’s Hospital – in connection with the Wimbledon CSC
The Brett Foundation
London North West Healthcare Charitable Fund
Our Barn (life skills, aged 16-25)
RNLI Ramsgate
Pilgrims Hospice
SVP Society Broadstairs
Kent Air Ambulance
Kent Foster Care Association
Happy Days Children’s Charity
Big Issue Foundation
The Foundation were asked to pass on gifts received, some of which went to Sean’s Trust – setup by our friend Linda Croker, who lost her husband and CQN’er St John Doyle, three years ago.
What did you do to achieve this?
Founding Fathers’ Fast, raised £1500 on one day.
Celtic Sleep Out – and incredible £80k.
Ghirls for Good, £22k
Bucket Collection, £13k
And nearly half the total was raised by direct donations – like the kind of things we do here throughout the year.
There is a part of this story which is seldom told. People from the Foundation turned up at the door of some of these families this month with envelopes containing cash. The reaction was often beyond gratitude or relief. Many tears of joy are shed as feelings of helplessness find an anchor to cling to.
If you are cold and find warmth, hungry and are fed. If you cannot provide for your children then receive shelter, toys and hope, you know the value of that £220,000.
This is THE Celtic story of 2016.

HT.
No problems. It’s just down the road.
Good Evening fholks
Without CQN, I would not have had the pleasure of meeting Doc and Paddybhoy1888, who I now regard both as good friends. I hope they both find the strength to guide them through this difficult period of their lifes

Today the Celtic Family lost one of its finest sons… it’s with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Malcolm Docherty ” Auld Doc ” . All of us who had the privilege of knowing him will know just how much of an example he was of the perfect Celtic Supporter. There were only two teams Malcolm was ever interested in as he would often say Celtic and Celtic Reserves..
Rest in Peace Malcolm and have a great time in the company Jinky Bobby Neilly Mochan and all the Great Celts when they welcome you in Paradise …Our sincere Condolences To Margaret and the family ……

I wish i had your forebearance, but I have not.I cannot read this blog and let the constant snipers have their say.I know we all have problems with the governance of our beloved club.I have mine. What i will not have is people, who never say anything positive about the club, playing wise, come on,when the chance appears,to pursue their agenda. When have YOU ever heard anything positive from these people?.
well done the foundation – it’s easy to forget how lucky you are

I lost my Father 22 years ago today, Holy Mass and last farewell on Christmas Eve. I know how you and your family feel now. Stay strong. Requiescat in pace Auld Doc.
Paddybhoy 1888
Condolences on your loss.
The money raised by the foundation is incredible .
The variety of good causes and their geographical locations even more so.

“Hunbelievable”.Sticking up for CQN?.If respecting the guy who gives you the opportunity to air your views is somehow wrong, then i am sorry,I was brought up the wrong way.Would you go into someones house,as a guest, and give them stick?.If you dont like the way Paul 67 writes the blog,go elsewhere.Easy.
This place is becoming “Unbelievable”.
Auldheid, God bless you.
I’ve read your input on here with respect, total, for your passion and ethics on the matter.
Your post about your own type of support on Monday, should have been a defining moment for all who have backed you over Resolution 12. Alas many are like your season ticket holding friend.
Each as you say supports the Celtic in their own way.
I hope you and the other guys persist in the new-year. It’s needed to make sure Celtic stays true to it’s support.
Some leadership ? At the moment the support are rudderless, many unhappy, clueless, but a significant number of Tims know what’s the correct course of action to ensure we don’t end up back in a loaded game .
The timing of the Supreme Court case, ST sales all align and present adequate time and opportunity to ensure what is right is fought for by our custodians.

As P67 has previously posted, if you wish to take up any dispute with deletions direct them to him at celticquicknews@gmail.com

Don’t worry, I won’t bother him.
i’ll just open some popcorn, sit back and lurk as the verve, humour and edge are sucked from the blog after a pretty good 13-year run.
Turkeybhoy
I agree with much of what Neganon and Mags post. However, I do think they’re wrong to criticise Paul personally especially on a day when we have such great news. Let’s not forget how much Paul has personally done for the Foundation never mind how much has been raised because of the platform he’s provided for the rest of us.
All I’m saying mate is that often a post doesn’t need replying to, it speaks for itself in its stupidity or inaccuracy.
Sometimes it’s best just to leave things unsaid and trust in the intelligence of your fellow posters.
I will now “delete”myself to my bed.But make no mistake,I will be ready to be “Deleted”again tomorrow.
Sandman –
I quite like both The Verve and The Edge. Haven’t heard anything by Humour so I’m off to YouTube now ;-)
Evening all
Condolences to Doc and Paddybhoy 1888. All I can offer to you is my prayers

HT.
Leave me out mate, looks like I will be sorted.
Thanks for your efforts.

Yes, Jobo, I always like to frame my gripes in pop-culture references. Humour are the next big Britpop-revival thing; however, lurking millenials, I now have dibs on the copyright.
JMc
Glad to hear it.

Turkeybhoy,
i was about to retire when I saw your post.Sometimes I do agree with what they post.Anybody would. My point is,that never once have I heard anything positive from these posters.Never.There has to be some kind of happy medium to get your point across.I never hear it from these posters. We can all have a bit of come and go,not with these people. Its always negatives.what i will say is,if I was as unhappy,as these people appear to be,with the content of this blog,I would go elsewhere.I would NEVER come on here and give the kind of vitriol to the host as some do.
But maybe thats just me and the way I was brought up and educated.
CQN, yer a tonic, you really are, spent a few minutes reading back.
Just in from seeing friends and family, another tonic, Laughs and tears, then read back here, more tears and joy.
From the posts to the direct messages, texts, all round good wishes and love.
Paul67, you created a community here sir.
Off for now before I get overly emotional.
Thank you.

Cheers. The COS in March on ebts assuming it takes some weeks to report and the CW trial scheduled for April to last 6 weeks suggest an alignment of events that will unite all depending on their outcome.
We just need to be ready.
Not posted in a long time, but just saw John’s post on facebook and thought I’d log in to post my respects.
Thoughts are with John and family. RIP Auld Doc
Johann Murdoch
Sad news for you too pal
God bless
Condolences to Doc, Johann, Paddybhoy 1888, their families, and those of anyone suffering a loss so close to what traditionally is / should be a happy, family time.
Losing a loved one anytime is crushing, but I do feel there is an additional poignancy at this time of year.
Don’t know you guys, but I am thinking of you all.

I’m still waiting mate. I’ve managed four extras already so I’m pushing it a bit. Would you go through without them?
———————–
JMc – if me and Wee BGFC’s experiences are anything to go by, I’d take the chance and travel through anyway – get there early and start shouting for SPARES!
Only failure so far was at Tynecastle (thanks often to HT, it must be said :-)).
Going to places like Dingwall and Inverness without tickets certainly adds to the sense of adventure, and you are all the more grateful when God smiles down on you and places one in your hand!!!
HH, and good luck!!

A while back when the Celtic Trust were doing a recruitment drive I contacted Paul asking if he’d be happy with me promoting it on CQN. Not a problem he replied.
I haven’t asked about posting regarding the OBaF Act because I already know that Paul is opposed to it.
Today we celebrate a massive achievement in the spirit of Walfrid’s ethos and Paul has played a significant part in that.
In addition there’s been numerous posts in support of those who’ve suffered bereavement recently.
This is a decent ol place guys, don’t ruin it.
condolences to paddybhoy and doc.

If Only the Gang of Four had additional Help..
From a Person who had Martyn Luther Kings Couage.. The Legal knowledge of the OJ Simpson legal team the Legal Football knowledge of the Bosman legal team.. The Celtic pride and Honour held by someone like Jinky and the Humility of The King of Kings..
Maybe then we would be Talking about The ‘ Famous Five’ instead of the Gang of Four..

You sum up CQN superbly there!
It’s nearly 30 years since I lost my old boy and I still miss him, but I have the memories. Those I treasure. Keep the memories and you keep him alive inside your heart and soul!

You’re welcome my friend. I was critiqued the other day and criticised for ‘holding tickets’ by td67. I never have spares. I get our own from Celtic but only ask for others when I’m asked by folk I know are genuine Tims.
For those of you who know me on Facebook, have a look at Auld Docs room, photo on my FB, a shrine to him, what was important to him, his family and Celtic, hope you get to see it.
And thanks for the responses, heartwarming.
So any team news for the weekend?
Hope someone is working on a Leigh Griffiths song btw:-)
