This is the point of Celtic

448

It has been two weeks since Celtic Park’s last outing as a football venue.  From this week, it becomes a socially=distanced dinning location for around 250 people, including frontline NHS staff.  The Celtic FC Foundation’s initial response is to provide £150k to stock local foodbanks and support charity partners in their efforts to cater for out most needy in this time.

For the time being, Celtic is no longer a football club; it is a source for good to a community that needs it, just as it was in 1888, when the first ball was kicked.  No other club is Britain has responded with the same resources or vision, but no other club has our heritage.

Today, most of us are concerned about our immediate families and there is nothing wrong with this.  But some people are ‘out there’ in our name.  There may be little you can do for this effort today, but we will have the opportunity soon enough.  Be proud of your club and know that, as Celtic fans, we have a social responsibility, otherwise, what’s the point?

  5. Has the government’s strategy taken into account the extra financial burden that will be incurred by those on low incomes for extra heating and electric use during this period of families remaining at home for much longer during the day? British Summer Time may begin this weekend but the temperatures at this time of year do not match that exotic title.

    But we knew that already.

  12. POG – Great post about low income family’s and the power to heat and light up their homes.

For years these power companies have made millions from us all but especially the people on power card/key meters. Would it bankrupt these company’s if they gave the first £10 gas and Electricity free to the most vulnerable.

How they manage that is a different story. But they should be doing something

  13. Bada Bing – Humanity at its worst.

    Ffs I despair.

Did I see something about Garry Neville opening his hotel to NHS staff, if so fair play to him.

May your Dad Rest In Peace

And May Perpetual Light Shine Upon him

Do not let your hearts be troubled

Trust in God still and trust in me

In my Fathers house there are many rooms

Otherwise I would not have told you that I go to prepare a place for you

After I have gone and prepared a place for you

I shall come again and take you with me

So that where I am, you may also be

You know the way to where I am going

    (John 14:1-4)

A wee prayer for those in time of grief
