This is the world Celtic has to operate in

830

There was a fascinating and completely unfounded angle to the Daily Record’s story today about Celtic’s forthcoming AGM, “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly”.

Oh no they don’t.  This is an incredible dose of poison to inject into the Celtic family.

The matter in question is a resolution before the AGM urging Celtic to write to the SFA and Uefa regarding club licencing for season 2011/12.  As a result of this resolution Celtic’s written response to the AGM confirms that they questioned the SFA’s licensing at the time directly with the Association, a fact which had not previously been revealed.  The matter was also raised with Uefa.  Both bodies backed the SFA actions.

I knew how this played out at the time and I was keen for the matter to reach the AGM, where questions could be asked and responses given, but lines like “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers were dealt with fairly” are put out just to mess with you.

The Record addresses another point in the same article, “the Scottish champions are also acutely aware of how official action would heighten tensions between fans of the two clubs”.  If you think Charles Green was the only one on the receiving end of threats and intimidation last year, when these matters came to light, you’re wrong.

Celtic pursued the licencing question as far as they were permitted to do, this is quite different than insisting Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly.  The SFA are not interested and Uefa are not interested.  As a result of this resolution, this issue can be properly examined in front of the supporters.

The club’s public comments, or often, the lack of public comments, put the safety of their employees and supporters, which was already acutely in focus, first.  Not so long ago office staff at Celtic had to go through training on how to open the mail following specific attacks.

Despite popular mythology, Celtic don’t control the SFA, re-orientating that organisation will take a while.  The issue of licensing in 2011 was pursued as far as the club were allowed to do so.  Get along to the AGM, look the board in the eye and ask your questions on this.  Celtic also have a responsibility – and a lot of formal security advice – to staff, each other and all of us when it comes to public comment.  This is the world Celtic has to operate in.  The sooner we are out of here the better.

    Big Nan,

No money will be accepted, I will not allow this to be turned into a scam or give anyone the opportunity to imply such, if people want to make donations then give it to deserving causes, I went into this with eyes wide open.

    Hail Hail

    ………………………..

Fair play to you Canalmar, but the offer stands should expenses run on. I have a fair bit of experience of lawyers and the simplest matter can be like Topsy. Just grow and grow.

    tet,

Im waiting for a copy of the resolution published in the AGM prospectus, as yet not seen it but from what I have been advised the reference to the CFCB has been omitted.

  3. Big Nan,

That’s terrible. That and what we appear to be realising about Celtic on here today are quite depressing.

Of course, it is probably easily explained as an “administrative error” the kind that always seems to only benefit the status quo.

  4. Paul67, sorry I don’t buy your defence of the board here. They could easily have driven a coach and horses through the entire Sevco sham, but have chosen not to. Does anyone seriously believe Fergus would have acted the same way?

For good or ill they appear to have decided that us and them should coexist sooner or later.

I take the point re the Champions League, and derived income thereof, but post 2008 they were bound to be liquidated sooner or later. Moonbeams wanted that to happen under somebody else’s watch, but no micro-management by Lloyds was ever going to prevent their downfall, he knows that despite the garbage he occasionally spews out. The deluded, and I include most of the press in Scotland, do not get it.

  6. Sorry lads but I’m totally pissed off at the constant fascination with Sevco’s activities. I think Paul’s leader is reasonable and understandable. Our Board’s responsibility is to build a strong sustainable Club and that is what they are doing. What will happen with Sevco will happen and there is nothing the Celtic Board or any of us on here can do a thing about it. My only concern at the moment is the injury to Lustig, with Matthews out till Christmas this is the last thing we need heading into Ajax game. Should Fisher start against the Hibees? I think so. Also I understand why Lenny doesn’t want to tinker with team in SPFL games as he tries to build momentum for CL games but once CL action ceases he should give a couple of the academy players a decent chance to establish themselves. I’d rather win the Title by 10 points and establish one Academy player as a genuine star than win the Title by 40 points.

    Auldheid,

For me its simpler than that, a letter sent to the SFA informing them that a report to the CFCB was being drawn up and would be dispatched if the license was granted, the board new exactly why the sheriffs officers were at Ibrox.

That is all the correspondence required, there is nor was there any need to get into any further discourse with the SFA.

  8. Apparently Nike are set to introduced Donegal tweed caps, in Celtic Tartan, complete with attached forelock in time for Sevco’s first visit to CP. A visit greatly anticipated by DD, Pl and the SMSM. Celtic PLC have yet to decided the most appropriate manner with which to greet the new teams arrival. A deferential wee tug of the forelock or a tug of the peak of the Donegal bonnet.

    Cheers.

I agree with Prestonpans, they can’t do that.

    Best of luck.

And I am with Big Nan, happy to weigh in with a few bob if needed.

That is simply wrong, the boards responsibility is to protect the interests of the shareholders,

The CFCB is mentioned several times in the prospectus i.e.

Tasks of the CFCB chief investigator.

    Jurisdiction of the CFCB

    Collection of evidence.

Your resolution 12 also makes mention of the CFCB.

Not sure if this helps you.

It can’t be right, lets say I’m a hun and propose a resolution condemning the board for a loss of £14m which translated into “This resolution wishes to express its delight at the financial prowess of the current board in only losing £14m over a 13 month period”

    Celtic Mac 20.34,

I just get annoyed when Murray or ANSJ are allowed to spout their “debt coming down” stuff without any questioning. As you said, it was Lloyds who were running the show in terms of trying to cut costs. The two years CL income played a big part. Simple maths: 2 years CL money = approx £27m. Debt came down by £13m, so still a shortfall of £14m over the two years. Bill Miller got it and ran for the hills.

Even Paul Murray’s Blue Knight buddy Brian Kennedy got it. This is what he said when they made their offer:

“Financially, a newco doesn’t work unless you can write a cheque for £35m to compensate for the absence of European football.

In other words, “We’re spending £12m a year above what we’re taking in outwith CL money.”

So Paul, was Kennedy wrong when he said that? Or was your spending all under control like you keep making out?

No doubt one of those top journalist-of-the-year types will ask you next time you’re on…..

  21. I hope as we speak the GB are busy planning a banner for the next home game.

Reading what we all have learned today, does anyone believe that our leaders really give a toss what we plebs think?.

  22. Paul

Thanks for illustrating why the tag at the top of this blog used to say

    “Not Lazy Journalism”

Why Celtic fans give any credence to what comes out of most Scottish Media sources always astonishes me.

We know that other forces in Scotland have colluded for years to manage the news to our disadvantage – even before Charlotte’s Fakery – but yet some still want to selectively read this nonsense.

Seems that some would prefer to see a conspiracy in the Celtic boardroom than in the Scottish media and establishment.

    A love hate thing obviously.

  23. I wish the board had been as silent when it came to the GB.

On matters of our support u can’t shut them up.

These people are meant to represent the feelings of the support.

    Gutless!

  24. ”Celtic pursued the licencing question as far as they were permitted to do, this is quite different than insisting Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly. The SFA are not interested and Uefa are not interested. As a result of this resolution, this issue can be properly examined in front of the supporters.”

    #####

I suspect some of us think we are being fobbed off.

There’s no need to wait until the AGM, where time is tight and there’s a lot to get through and discussions must unfortunately be curtailed etc etc etc.

Why don’t the board give us chapter and verse now on what steps they took and what the actual responses were from the SFA and UEFA.

How long would it take to put that together and release online?
