This is the world Celtic has to operate in

830

There was a fascinating and completely unfounded angle to the Daily Record’s story today about Celtic’s forthcoming AGM, “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly”.

Oh no they don’t.  This is an incredible dose of poison to inject into the Celtic family.

The matter in question is a resolution before the AGM urging Celtic to write to the SFA and Uefa regarding club licencing for season 2011/12.  As a result of this resolution Celtic’s written response to the AGM confirms that they questioned the SFA’s licensing at the time directly with the Association, a fact which had not previously been revealed.  The matter was also raised with Uefa.  Both bodies backed the SFA actions.

I knew how this played out at the time and I was keen for the matter to reach the AGM, where questions could be asked and responses given, but lines like “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers were dealt with fairly” are put out just to mess with you.

The Record addresses another point in the same article, “the Scottish champions are also acutely aware of how official action would heighten tensions between fans of the two clubs”.  If you think Charles Green was the only one on the receiving end of threats and intimidation last year, when these matters came to light, you’re wrong.

Celtic pursued the licencing question as far as they were permitted to do, this is quite different than insisting Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly.  The SFA are not interested and Uefa are not interested.  As a result of this resolution, this issue can be properly examined in front of the supporters.

The club’s public comments, or often, the lack of public comments, put the safety of their employees and supporters, which was already acutely in focus, first.  Not so long ago office staff at Celtic had to go through training on how to open the mail following specific attacks.

Despite popular mythology, Celtic don’t control the SFA, re-orientating that organisation will take a while.  The issue of licensing in 2011 was pursued as far as the club were allowed to do so.  Get along to the AGM, look the board in the eye and ask your questions on this.  Celtic also have a responsibility – and a lot of formal security advice – to staff, each other and all of us when it comes to public comment.  This is the world Celtic has to operate in.  The sooner we are out of here the better.

    Hunskelper,

Are you telling us you’ve never let your children out of your sight ?

Never been anywhere you considered safe ?

No one knows when or if something like that could or would happen but casting such aspersions is only acts as a distraction to the investigation.

    No question about that.

Their only ray of sunshine right now is the criticism by Celtic supporters of the Celtic Board.

The hun must be laughing it`s collective cojones off right now at the psychological lifebelt being thrown to it by some Celtic supporters.

Dont think theres much else to say, you quite obviously want Celtic to be the eternal victim, I dont.

  5. After a stressless and comfortable drive into work this morning, it eventually dawned on me that there was no “bliddy wummin drivers” on the road…….the school holidays……nae school run……total bliss. Which got me thinkin…….if we really want tae get the economy back on its feet…….ban “wummin drivers” fae the roads between the hours of 7.30 am and 9.30 am. People going to work will get there quicker…resulting inmore production….weans will have to walk or cycle to school….resulting in less obesity….and fitter kids…..and if we extend it tae the return journey….ie….nae “wummin drivers” between 3 and 4 pm…..we’ll all get a better tea……a win win situation methinks

What does this mean and have you seen documentation or a statement to back this up?

I have never seen anything from Celtic that stated that they asked the SFA or UEFA to investigate Rangers license.

Many years ago, when the young fella was 3 or 4, was at a car boot sale, we though he was in the car, we were a matter of feet away, discovered he wasn’t, total panic, and fair play to the Edinburgh polis, they had the square locked down within mins of us reporting him missing, he was sleeping in another car, the joy and relief, the fear, all within a small matter of time.

    Hun skelper,

Thats not what I asked, I asked have you ever let your children out of sight, you know you have, everyone has usually its no a big deal until some poor family suffers a loss, then the holy willies blame the parents rather than the criminals.

    Out of order.

  18. Here’s the real world. Try and place yourself inside the Celtic boardroom and ask yourself what you would do .

You have competed for years against an opponent who ignore the rules. Worse than that they actively conceal their rule breaking. They lie to anyone , Tax authorities or Football authorities, who asks if the entire player contract has been lodged with the SFA /SPL.

The outcome of this rule breaking, tax evasion, and deception resulted in strong criticism of individuals at Celtic. Criticism occasionally was warranted, mistakes were sometimes made. However overall, you were being asked to run in a 100 metres race where another runner was wearing illegal kit, had taken performance enhancing drugs and was allowed to start 20 metres down the track

Now when eventually your crooked opponent crashes and burns, you are asked to vote on effectively allowing them a free pass.

How can anyone, who doesn’t have a default position of kick the board, think for a second that the board would vote for this. After being cheated , personally and professionally , for over a decade.

Yet that is what we were being told in the Summer of 2012. Conspiracy theorists were screaming Celtic would vote for Rangers to stay in the SPL. It wasn’t true, it was never true, but it suited some agenda’s and played directly to those who get wound up without considering the logic of a claim.

    And now,

We are being asked to believe it all over again. The logic of this is staggeringly inept. Ethically and emotionally a Vote for Rangers in the SPL was impossible . Financially Celtic were always going to vote against Rangers being invited into the SPL. A 3 year free run at the title, and CL monies, was a no brainer to say no.

What possible benefit is there to Celtic to state Rangers were dealt with fairly. They weren’t . You and I know that, Celtic know that, and were every bit as angry as we were over Nimmo Smith’s outcome.

Celtic though have to live in the real world. They asked the SFA and Uefa to investigate the issue of a Euro Licence. The SFA have zero incentive to out themselves as incompetent/ biased/ corrupt/ complicit. Therefore no joy there.

Uefa are a collection of national associations. They support their own , they will not take the side of ANY individual club over ANY national association. To do so undermines their own status and authority

That’s the real world. Celtic have to walk a delicate line, not least because they do not want an SFA veto on any potential future change in where Celtic play their competitive football .

  19. Exiled Tim, nobody would dispute that they made a mistake. However some of the vitriol directed to them from the odious Daily Express and Starwas shocking.

    Barcacelt,

Nobody said it was easy but again, why would we ask the SFA anything ?

The CFCB is set up to investigate national association irregularities eventually they will have do their job, else why have them ?

Agreed there will be some pain but can you put hand on heart and say in the long run it would achieve nothing how will we know if we dont try ?

Just in case I missed it I have tonight attempted many Google searches for this but can find nothing. Unless of course Jack Irvine has removed all history regarding this.
