This is the world Celtic has to operate in

830

There was a fascinating and completely unfounded angle to the Daily Record’s story today about Celtic’s forthcoming AGM, “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly”.

Oh no they don’t.  This is an incredible dose of poison to inject into the Celtic family.

The matter in question is a resolution before the AGM urging Celtic to write to the SFA and Uefa regarding club licencing for season 2011/12.  As a result of this resolution Celtic’s written response to the AGM confirms that they questioned the SFA’s licensing at the time directly with the Association, a fact which had not previously been revealed.  The matter was also raised with Uefa.  Both bodies backed the SFA actions.

I knew how this played out at the time and I was keen for the matter to reach the AGM, where questions could be asked and responses given, but lines like “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers were dealt with fairly” are put out just to mess with you.

The Record addresses another point in the same article, “the Scottish champions are also acutely aware of how official action would heighten tensions between fans of the two clubs”.  If you think Charles Green was the only one on the receiving end of threats and intimidation last year, when these matters came to light, you’re wrong.

Celtic pursued the licencing question as far as they were permitted to do, this is quite different than insisting Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly.  The SFA are not interested and Uefa are not interested.  As a result of this resolution, this issue can be properly examined in front of the supporters.

The club’s public comments, or often, the lack of public comments, put the safety of their employees and supporters, which was already acutely in focus, first.  Not so long ago office staff at Celtic had to go through training on how to open the mail following specific attacks.

Despite popular mythology, Celtic don’t control the SFA, re-orientating that organisation will take a while.  The issue of licensing in 2011 was pursued as far as the club were allowed to do so.  Get along to the AGM, look the board in the eye and ask your questions on this.  Celtic also have a responsibility – and a lot of formal security advice – to staff, each other and all of us when it comes to public comment.  This is the world Celtic has to operate in.  The sooner we are out of here the better.

‘Radio Four’s ‘Moral maze’ is essential listening this week. Listen to supporters of abortion fail to condemn infanticide. It is chilling. Somebody called Claire Fox was involved.’

Well there’s a degree of logical consistency there.

Talking of which, I still don’t understand how people can have two sets of children by IVF but still present themselves as being devout Catholics.

That would be consistent with a number of explanations for what took place.

My agreeing with the stance that parents shouldn’t leave their kids was not an attack on the family.

They obviously didn’t think there would be a problem, otherwise I don’t believe they would have acted they way they did, what parent would.

I agree some of the media reporting was shocking.

I fear the culprits will never face justice.

I agree with your logic, indeed have made similar points but what if we do not get out?

That would be my preference rather than try and reform the SFA, but if we stay in Scotland I would not want to go through 2009 onwards again if RIFC ever become our competitors again with no changes at the SFA.

The problem in getting out is not so much using what is known about the SFA to give us leverage, it is finding a league to enter that would take us, so we need a Plan B.

  9. Hun skelper.

Agree completely. However tragic it is. There is a difference. It wasn’t just for a few moments. They took an educated gamble with their children.

    Spot on !!!!

But way too much logic for conspirators in an international week.

  11. Ogilvie didn’t need 100% vote to be re-elected, which meant he was going to get back in. Celtic would gain nothing by voting against, and would be accused of posturing by more than a few in the MSM

Ogilvie has failed miserably, and should resign. However the real guilty man was David Murray. If i was going to be critical of our board, i feel they could have done more to have him banned sine die. Without a guilty verdict from the UTT and with LNS whitewash that wouldn’t be easy .

I hope that one’s not died a death though, funnily enough Rangers supporters would probably be supportive if banning him Sine die

    Lilys../hunskelper,

So are you saying the victims got what they deserved ?

  13. Auldheid, it would appear that C Ogilvie has more leverage than anyone, I don’t think we are growing stronger in the leverage stakes.

Our complacency in this whole affair has left is open for anything.

If the licensing issue, the 5 way agreement and all other deeds over the last 2 years were completely transparent then we would not be in this mess.

The idea that the 5 way agreement was secret, and must remain so is shocking.

Every club in Scotland should have demanded a copy of this, before it was signed.

  15. Had it been a single mother who had taken her children on holiday and left them alone to go drinking, she would feel the full force of shame from the MSM.

    Barcacelt,

Nobody said it was easy but again, why would we ask the SFA anything ?

The CFCB is set up to investigate national association irregularities eventually they will have do their job, else why have them ?

Agreed there will be some pain but can you put hand on heart and say in the long run it would achieve nothing how will we know if we dont try

    ===============================================

I agree we should try,and your efforts to date are exceptional.

Ref earlier comments,I have just checked and Page 7 Article 2.1 Para 8 does in fact state ” investigation by the FCFB to restore trust and respect in the governance of Scottish football” .

Under Board Response, Words to the effect,

“The Board considers it took appropriate steps to protect the interests of the Company”

I dont see this if by allowing manipulation of awards a monetary impact was suffered by us and benefitted by others…………..Too glib by far.

    I’m attending.

  19. Were the results of Campbell Ogilvie’s re-election vote ever published? I can’t recall ever seeing them.

We know he was elected unopposed but that doesn’t mean unanimous approval.

That’s also not to say the club didn’t vote for him but as far as I’m aware I’ve never seen it stated one way or the other.

Why are the msm so important to your argument ?

For all we know, if the Celtic board refused to vote him in many others would have followed, remember we are the only ones filling the trough.

  21. Thanks Exiled. Enjoying the passion of the blog.

Barca whether Celtic voted for Ogilvie or not is neither here nor there, by no opposition to him it states that everyone is happy with job he is doing.

Its like not voting then complaining about Tory policies.

  25. With respect, that is bollix.

RCO has had a free reign to do as he pleases, the silence from Celtic and all the other clubs make them as complicit as the sfa and RCO.

Celtic could have contested his re election on many grounds, they could have proposed their own candidate.

Whether the msm would have pointed the finger at Celtic, who cares, they do any way, they lie about us daily, nothing new there then.

What are the club scared of ?

Why are the club happy to sit at the back of the bus ?
