This level of subjugation requires a cooperative loser

230

If in the 90s, you predicted Celtic would win 12 titles in 13 years by 2024, they would walk away from you.  Back then, I took Deapthroat’s advice and followed the money, I knew that David Murray’s leveraged success would ‘crash and burn’ [quote: my brother Kevin, every 20 minutes from 1992-1998], but never in my wildest’ did I expect the domination to be so utterly complete.  You would be forgiven for thinking this level of subjugation requires a cooperative loser.

It. Is. All. About. The Money.  You and I have to live within our means; under normal circumstances, it comes naturally, we don’t buy luxuries if we can’t pay the fuel bill.  For reasons that we could explore further, some men (it’s always men), think that advocating for the spend of imprudently large amounts of money on football players is a test of their [fragile]manhood.  Why can’t they just buy the blue pills instead of compensating through all this drama?

19 years ago, while Celtic were on their way to losing a league, I wrote that we were in the early years of a Generation of Domination, which started in 2000.  There was a bit of pushback from the hard of thinking, but it was so obvious – Celtic were living within their means, Rangers were driving off a cliff.  There was no other plausible future.

In 2024, you don’t need a crystal ball to know the future of Scottish football.  We all know how it is going to play out, including the Newco board and fans.  But they are all too scared to face up to the reality and do the hard penance – a decade-or-so rebuilding from the ground up, to give their son’s son’s a chance of success.

And for the really hard of thinking, this doesn’t mean we will win every league/cup/game and Celtic will not compensate for whatever you are missing, we will just become and remain the most successful football club in the world.  Which is alright, I suppose.

Enjoy these Celtic years!

Like Tom McGlaughin going on Saturday to watch Celtic v St Mirrin will be my last one with my season ticket ,I’m 80 followed Celtic since I was a boy a stones throw away in Brigton ,my health along with my eyesight is the reason I’m giving my ticket to a responsible fan,I’ll continue to watch Celtic on the telly.

    ………..

I’m RESPONSIBLE….Unlike One or Two that I could mention on here…..LOL.

Good morning all from Westport, County Mayo. As the Chilterns fella would say- grand day to be a Tim. 👍

  6. Apart from the obvious reasons, I am so glad we won the title this year as I am joining the `Not Renewing Brigade` and I would not like to have been seen as a glory hunter who didn`t renew because we didn`t win the League !!

Nothing serious in my case , just circumstances and my niece`s daughter ( my great/grand-niece?) is having my ticket.

Talking of that, good luck, Jimmy re TIMBHOY163`s ticket.

    Golf time for me.

    Cheerio for now.

  8. Idah was very good v killie , I certainly wouldn’t throw a new contract at him based on that game , prior to that performance he never set the heather on fire , he has two games show us if it was just a flash in the pan or he has finally clicked into gear , hopefully the latter . The other night was as good a performance from the hoops in a long time ,coupled with v the diets where we were also fantastic . I hope this is just the start .HH

CCV didn’t need a Microphone to shout out ” Unlucky Rangers” HaHaHa.

Meanwhile CALAMITY CLEMONT is very unhappy with the Celtic Bhoys and Ghirls having FUN !

My ” Celebration” starts later Today…Im looking forward to meeting up with one of my young brothers and his wonderful wife and having a few Beers.

A few Winners at the Horse Racing would also be nice…I had Three good winners at YORK yesterday, at early odds of 8/1, 11/2 and 3/1.

HH to all the GOOD Bhoys on here…as for the CHUMPS……. ?

  10. I’d rather be a CHAMP….than a CHUMP….Especially a Hun CHUMP !

Talking of HUN CHUMPS…..wee Barry Fergusons ” article” in Todays Daily Ranger is once again…Feckin hilarious !

I have to disagree with you on this one tbh.

I think he’s been really decent for us when he’s played, which has been mostly from the bench, and showed what he’s really capable of on Wednesday against Killie.

He’s only 23 and with Brendan’s coaching and development, he could be a terrifying striker for us. He’s big, strong, pacy, athletic (Brendan’s type of striker), can score, hold the ball up, happy to run at players with the ball and his pass to Maeda for James Forrest’s goal was outstanding. If Hatate or someone made that pass, we’d all be going on about it.

I’d like to see him signed as soon as possible. Even if he costs £6m, which I doubt he will.

  14. I hope that the Celtic Players will be SOBER enough to beat St Mirren Tomorrow ?

I was very impressed with ADAM IDAH against Killie on Wednesday ( As were most/ALL of us ), so much so I have backed ADAM with the Bookies to score at least TWO Goals against St. Mirren….and also for ADAM to score a HAT TRICK v St Mirren at odds of 16/1. ( I think ?….I must double check )

If ADAM plays as well as he did against Killie……I say…”Celtic, Celtic….Sign him up ”

He could also ( Maybe ) RAG DOLL the Huns defenders in the Cup Final next week ?

  15. The following season saw Celtic win the league championship, the first of nine successive titles, and that gained them entry into the European Cup. By now Stein had revolutionised the Parkhead club, and their tactics, with an entertaining style of play and training routines that were groundbreaking.

As a so-called “tracksuit” manager, Stein was a part of the transformational Scottish approach to football management that saw the likes of Matt Busby, Bill Shankly – he was personal friends with the great duo from a mining background – Tommy Docherty and Eddie Turnbull change the way football was played.

In season 1966-67 Celtic won every tournament they entered including the European Cup with a famous 2-1 victory over Inter Milan in the Estadio Nacional in Lisbon. The attacking play of Celtic bested the defensive qualities of Inter and the Cup was won by the Lisbon Lions, all of them born within 30 miles of Parkhead.

Stein said afterwards that Celtic had won by playing “pure beautiful inventive football”. Nobody disagreed.

Bill Shankly came into the Celtic dressing room and told his old friend “John you’re immortal”.

I have thought for a while that Idah for 4 or 5 million would be a good signing.

We know what we are getting and could sign someone for similar money – Ajeti – and he turns out to be rubbish.

  17. Majestic Hartson on

    Hot Smoked,

A shame to hear you are giving up your ticket and we’ll have no more “iron horse” posts, but glad it’s on your own terms 👍

  18. Majestic Hartson on

Over the next few seasons we’ll possibly be losing quite a bit of our experienced players – Hart, Forrest, McGregor.

I think there’s an argument that we sign some older players 28-29 who won’t have any resale value but will also be happy to stay around for 4-6 years giving us a bit of stability.

They might cost more than a project but will also have a greater body of work to make a judgement on whether they are worth the money.

  19. It was GREAT to listen to the Celtic support on Wednesday against Killie singing the ” BOBBY MCFERRIN” Song…” DON’T WORRY BE HAPPY”….Albeit without the actual Lyrics….LOL

As I watched and listened, it took me a few minutes before I realised ” What Song” they were singing…

Its a song that I often play in the Hoose and on my Locals Juke Box.

I sincerely hope you’re right pal . Against killie he had a great game and showed what he has in his locker , unfortunately that was the only time I have seen such a performance from him , but as you rightly say most of his appearances have been from the bench . I hope over the next two games he can continue to shine as his big strong type is what we have been crying out for , and I can assure you I will be delighted to be wrong . HH

I wasn’t having a go btw. Apologies if it came across that way. Just wanted to highlight his situation.

Brendan also seems to really like him and has spoken highly of him since day one. I agree that’s his one and only stand-out performance, but he does seem to be a genuine talent and maybe just needs the right coaching and support, which he’ll get here.
