This, my friends in Celtic, is what you call a journey

889

The heat was suffocating, it was 35° and city was heaving.  On the long walk out of town some enterprising locals were selling water or cola to the increasingly dehydrated caravan of people.  I passed a few, not willing to succumb to extortionate opportunism, but soon gave in.

I walked into an orange tree earlier that day.  Caught between taking directions from a policeman and setting off in a new direction I’d overlooked the towering obstacle a yard in front of me.  There’d been a spring in my step, I must have bounced into the bark.  Trees are hard.  I fell.

The return journey was made in the cool of the night.  For the first few miles we were a uniformed flow of humanity but eventually the crowd thinned.  We walked through residential streets with locals at their doors and windows.  They applauded as we passed.  Few of us are ever part of something substantial enough that uninvolved observers openly applaud you.  Such memories endure.

I’d an early rise and a long drive with a full car ahead the next day.  The bedroom was packed, floor space was given over to spare bedding, the hotels must have shipped mattresses in from a hundred kilometres radius, so with the others in the bar, I took myself off for a shower.

I met a German couple in the elevator.  “Are you disappointed?” the woman asked.  “No, we played well and were beaten by a good team.”  It was the perfect answer.  These people must have been horrified when they noticed the throng which would dominate their trip, but they’d become part of the story, part of the throng.  The answer was honestly given, although disappointment would come later.  I went on, “We lost a minor cup final nine years ago, that was real disappointment”.

I surprised myself by what my memory spontaneously threw up when asked about disappointment.  Looking back now, that minor cup final is no more than a touchstone, and indicator of where we were before the Generation of Domination got underway.  It’s lost its power to inflict negative emotion.  If I met the German couple once more I could again tell them I wasn’t disappointed with that day in the blistering heat.  It’s one of my proudest memories, and we soon learned we were beaten, narrowly, by a great team.

This, my friends in Celtic, is what you call a journey.

I spoke to fan liaison manager John Paul Taylor yesterday and mentioned I’d not renewed my season ticket yet.  I promised him I would today and that I’d pass the message on.  Deadline is tomorrow, after that people can ask for a move into your seat.  Consider yourself reminded!  We walk the next mile of the journey soon, with hope in our hearts, as always.

Many thanks to those who donated to Mary’s Meals yesterday, and to Magners.  The money raised in one day alone will feed over 30 of the world’s poorest school children for a year.

I have no idea. I saw he was in front of King last night at the game. I suspect he will be used as some kind of media enforcer.

Anytime the fans need rallyed he will be wheeled out and anytime the journalists ask too many probing questions Brown will be asked to have a word.

I would not want a ranting buffoon like that speaking for my club. A complete maniac.

    Agreed.

Tommy Boyd is a Bhoy who lived the dream.

John Brown would have had 6 red cards a year playing for Celtic. Despised him for knocking Tommy Coyne into the net after he scored against them at Celtic Park all those years ago. Tommy just bounced back up and went off to celebrate.

  3. I’m pretty sure Neganon2’s carer lets him out of his cage every few hours so he can log onto CQN and expound his favourite word “corrupt”.

Everyone and everything he doesn’t agree with is corrupt.

One day recently he posted a comment that used the word corrupt or corruption 14 times.

I think maybe his mind is corrupted.

    Poor guy.

  4. What a bonkers week it’s been.

Ole Dave back as the savour of the undead.

The undead all but within reach of another toilet smashing fiesta.

All approved, aided and abetted by the relevant governing bodies.

Sky executives must be licking their lips at the prospect of the hysteria they can broadcast when the unwashed hordes give voice to their unique songbook once again.

Yet, despite all of this, the story has some time to run yet. See you cheats out there? You’ll get yours in the end. So then, where ur ra deeds?

His Shortie performance if ever carried out by Tim would have called down the wrath of scoddlands finest with calls for further intervention, the polis, the works……..

Instead good decent men are brow(n) – beaten with lumpen aggression and menacing overtones thick with bitterness anger and aggression.

Bawsman at 12.59. A friend of mine used to stay next to the Fallons and still keeps in touch with them despite them no longer being neighbours.

He told me the Fallons were very annoyed with Keevins’ column in the Sunday Mail re the Sean Fallon tribute game in Sligo being cancelled. Keevins made out it was Celtic who pulled out but it was a joint decision between the organising commitee, Celtic & Sligo to cancel due to guy promoting it changing details of how the funds raised would be shared and generally peeing people off.

Keevins wasn’t banned from Celtic Park, his press privileges were withdrawn. He could still attend Celtic Park but would have to pay in and wouldn’t have the usual media access pre and post match.

  8. Dave King will ruthlessly use guys like Brown to promote his new hun same as the auld hun agenda, that’s all she wrote folks, every time he opens his slimy gob he mentions us, it’s almost as if stopping us is his only thought:) Having planted that thought in the unwashed’s minds he will then relentlessly fleece them to fund the idea of stopping Timmy.

It never fails with these guys, I expect an orange strip to follow follow soon!

  10. Ah Tom you do like to belittle when you get a chance dont you. Im sure some others in Scotland have used the old mentally ill accusations before. Does that make you proud of your, errr, cleverness.

Im quite proud you have been counting my words. Thats dedication for you. Incidentally can you point me to the post in question?

As with regards to using the word corruption. Well therea a lot of it around.

Perhaps you havent noticed though given you are president of the cqm flat earth society.

Perhaps Peter and his friend Paul could try and at least disguise the propoganda that cqn is used for?

At least it would be honest.

  11. Tom sorry i forgot to ask you. You told me you didnt believe there was any sfa corruption (tsk that word again). You must have agreed that King is fit and proper then? Or was it just an honest mistake?

It would be a good sign of appreciation for our Captain and his efforts this season, if the crowd on Sunday stands up in the eighth minute and we all did the Broonie.

Scott has, in my opinion, had his best season with us and is vital to our team.

Good recommendation. Good fish … really good chips. And always good to catch up with T. So, all in all, a good night.

As for the pound sign … .you lot with your secret key strokes …. I’m thinking its a masonic thing! :)

  15. We’ve suspected for decades that scottish football was corrupt, since EBTs we’ve had confirmation. The game is run by cheats for a bigoted club and now is the time for the club to make a stand.

I’ve never believed anything would come from the behind the scenes work, time for public questions to the games ruling bodies by old firm board.

  16. With the blog’s indulgence I’d like to post a link to a charitable event taking place this weekend.

    http://www.gofundme.com/theconway100km

My son Tony had the same group of about 12 friends all through his secondary school education, and those men have organized the Conway 100km Challenge on Saturday and Sunday of this weekend (23 and 24 May).

They will walk from London to Brighton (62 miles or 100km) with the proceeds going to Tony’s widow and two girls.

Here’s the route they’ll be following

    https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zV83-q25jDao.kwEnk03dhCyI&usp=sharing

It will start from the Old Deer Park on Twickenham Road, at 9.40am on Saturday and pass through –

Green Lane Recreation Ground – New Malden,

    Oaks Park – Banstead,

New Henshaw Farm – South Nutfield,

    Tulley’s Farm – Crawley,

    Ardingly College – Haywards Heath,

Wivelsfield Primary School – Haywards Heath,

    Plumpton College – Plumpton,

Falmer Farm Shop – Falmer, Brighton,

    Finishing at Brighton Racecourse.

They hope to complete the course in about 21 hours all being well, and so arrive the Brighton Racecourse around 6.40 to 7.00am on Sunday.

If you are around these areas this Saturday and Sunday and happen to see a bunch of bedraggled youngish guys walking/staggering towards Brighton racecourse – could you wave, shout or sound your horn in encouragement. Stop and chat if you have time, they all know myself, Mrs RWE, and our elder son Martin.

    They never walked alone.

    Thanks
