Thistle’s aim for top 6, the liquidator’s duty

490

It’s another big day in the title race as Aberdeen visit Firhill. Partick Thistle’s form has been up and down recently, losing to Hearts and Dundee United, beating St Johnstone home and away, winning and losing against Motherwell, all in their last six games. They have not won or lost by more than two goals win or defeat since November.

Aberdeen’s games since the turn of the year have also been tight, a 3-1 defeat at Inverness last month is the only occasion there has been more than a single goal in any of their games. It’s likely to be tight tonight.

A win would put Thistle into the top six, is it too much to ask…….

Natural justice would suggest that Rangers liquidators, BDO, should be allowed to appeal to the Supreme Court on the club’s creditors’ behalf (they were granted permission to appeal this morning). Rangers won the initial decision on a number of their players EBTs, and then the first appeal, so it’s clear there are finer points of law at play.

With Rangers now in liquidation, creditors may wonder why BDO are spending their (diminishing) pot of money on what is sure to be extravagant legal fees, especially as HMRC is the most influential creditor.  Liquidators have a responsibility to the creditors to dismiss any claims on creditors’ funds which cannot be substantiated.  If the liquidator wins at the Supreme Court, all creditors apart from HMRC will receive a higher payout.

I don’t imagine Supreme Court hearings and written judgements are arranged in a hurry, so put this one on the back burner for a while, but there remains a lot at play here.  I’ve tried to steer clear of the issue for a while now, as it’s little more than a distraction, but that’ll change should HMRC win in London.

Good luck to Thistle tonight.

Me too – if being humped 4-0 was bad , try being humped 4-0 and then walking from Ibrox to Queens Cross, via a flat in Tradeston because your old man wanted to pick up a duck and Dexter Gordon’s Go. Lp. 1963 was a bad year for games v the Deady Bears

1964 got off to a bad start too – a classic Honest Mistake saw the ‘ tic being denied a stonewall penalty .

We might be in the middle of the most blatant, staggering, get to the back of the bus, propaganda campaign ever seen in Scotland, but we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that their are Huns out there who don’t buy into the same club lie.

I’ve heard it personally from three in the last year, one for sure and the other two with a bit of work. One is a close mate who said ‘don’t even ask me that question when you know I won’t lie to you, but of course we’re a new club, leave it at that ‘ The other two I know through work. After a bit of a lesson they both buckled and agreed that they were a new club ‘but so are yous, Pacific shelf etc’. There will be many more out there who’ve owned up, in fact only the sadly deluded and deranged will still think in their heart of hearts they didn’t die.

They know alright, it’s the fact that we know they know, that kills them.

Once again we see so called Celtic supporters partaking in name calling like children I understand we can and do have differences of opinion and that should lead to good debate on CQN. I must admit naively I thought as Celtic Supporters we could agree to disagree but a few on CQN are determined to prove me wrong.H.H.

    Ha, very true.

It should be noted that although you don’t read this on the club’s website or in the Railway timetables; there are no pit stops (pubs ) in the vicinity when you get off at Dalmarnock

    Tend not to use Dalmarnock.

There was talk a couple of years ago about reopening the railway line through the old Parkhead railway station at Springfield Road/Janefield Street that closed in the 60s I think, but I don’t know if that’s still on the go.

Nothing to stop it going ahead physically; the trackbed’s still clear & not infilled or built over IIRC, and it would be great for us. Which is why it won’t happen, says the cynic in me.

  7. Consider a giant world-wide crowdfunding exercise to raise the cash to have the best legal minds take up the Celtic supporters case against the ‘alleged’ cheating of Rangers FC?

The compelling case put forward in the Rangers Tax Case below, could be the basis of a civil action.

Although there are differing elements to the ‘cheating’, it would probably be wise to wait until after the Supreme Court judgement before commencement of legal action, however fundraising could start right away.

I am sure that as well as the ordinary supporter, many wealthy and celebrity fans would also rally round, either openly or otherwise.

The organisation and publicity surrounding the crowdfunding would by itself open up the issue to millions of people, even before a case was initiated.

I would imagine that a figure of some £5 million would be needed, however there is always the possibility that some ‘legal eagles’ of our persuasion could waive their normal fees.

Who knows it could also unify Scottish Football against cheating, some fans from other clubs and joined in.

Why go to all that bother and expense.

You have stated that we have a fine legal team. A clarification of Celtic’s position and a clarification of our views of Scottish football shouldn’t be too hard to draw up and cascade to all at the next media conference.

If there is a will there will be a way. Of that there is little doubt. imo silence is no longer a viable option if we want to keep our support. I no longer think that is an exaggeration.

    Is there a will ???

Whit is all this faux concern for us ‘auld yins’ and our hobble/ zimmer ride back to town?

    Utter keech.

We walk through Bridgeton, always walked through Bridgeton and always will walk through Bridgeton, both ways from Gorbals to Celtic park, whoever we are playing.

Don’t you young lily livered sprogs worry about us. We haven’t reached our dotage by sheer chance.

The Crimson Star, Station Bar and that haven of intellectual discourse, The Seven Ways merely add a frisson of excitement, a spring in our step, a cutting edge to our tongue and an extra five minutes to our next confession, as we walk past them.

No, they may NOT walk down Garvachy road, but we surely WILL and DO stroll the One Road, the London Road to Celtic Park.

Anyway, there was a time when we were young(er) too, and me and a particularly well known uber Celtic fan from the Gorbals planned to get a ladder and overnight change The Seven Ways to The Seven Wans.

We would have done it too, but by the time I had found a ladder, I had sobered up and was in Uddingston.

Anyway the thought of them drinking in a bar with a sign saying the seven wans still makes me laugh.

I leave you wet-behind-the-ears youths to finish that task.

Till then…. To the tune of ‘Feed the bear’

  17. My old man grew up in Brigton. Reid Street. All the families in the building were Catholic and it was known as ‘the Pope’s close’.

12 years old (circa 1955) he got an orange and a football for Christmas. Banged the floor to alert his buddy downstairs and when he ran down the close stair there was his pal ready to meet him and they headed out the street for a kickabout.

Christmas morning they ran up the close to the exit, hurrying to the light, imagining they were running up the tunnel at Celtic Park. His buddy gave the ball a boot into the sunlight and the street. As they followed it out the rumbling sound of a coal truck could be heard and it ran right over the ball, leaving it flat as a pancake, burst on the ground.

    Christmas in Brigton.

    WeeBobbyCollins….

I’m originally from Coatbridge and have only been coming from the Gorbals for the last 17 years. So the Mermaid doesn’t strike a chord. Obviously it will with those I go to teh games with…I’ll check.

On a related point about the Bridgeton area, the last Celtic Pub is usually regarded as The Londoner, but just behind the main drag there are The Scotsman and Park Lane Taver; The PLV in particular being a Celtic empathetic pub. However on a few trips abroad, Barcelona and Milan come to mind I have bumped into the travelling support from the Scotsman.

Lots of good Tims in Bridgeton…..on Missionary work I believe. :)
