Thistle’s aim for top 6, the liquidator’s duty

490

It’s another big day in the title race as Aberdeen visit Firhill. Partick Thistle’s form has been up and down recently, losing to Hearts and Dundee United, beating St Johnstone home and away, winning and losing against Motherwell, all in their last six games. They have not won or lost by more than two goals win or defeat since November.

Aberdeen’s games since the turn of the year have also been tight, a 3-1 defeat at Inverness last month is the only occasion there has been more than a single goal in any of their games. It’s likely to be tight tonight.

A win would put Thistle into the top six, is it too much to ask…….

Natural justice would suggest that Rangers liquidators, BDO, should be allowed to appeal to the Supreme Court on the club’s creditors’ behalf (they were granted permission to appeal this morning). Rangers won the initial decision on a number of their players EBTs, and then the first appeal, so it’s clear there are finer points of law at play.

With Rangers now in liquidation, creditors may wonder why BDO are spending their (diminishing) pot of money on what is sure to be extravagant legal fees, especially as HMRC is the most influential creditor.  Liquidators have a responsibility to the creditors to dismiss any claims on creditors’ funds which cannot be substantiated.  If the liquidator wins at the Supreme Court, all creditors apart from HMRC will receive a higher payout.

I don’t imagine Supreme Court hearings and written judgements are arranged in a hurry, so put this one on the back burner for a while, but there remains a lot at play here.  I’ve tried to steer clear of the issue for a while now, as it’s little more than a distraction, but that’ll change should HMRC win in London.

Good luck to Thistle tonight.

Fair play to Aberdeen. Coming off the back of a hard win in the cup at the weekend. Don’t know how they cope with so many games. Still in Europe too. League cup final next weekend. That McGenius is some guy.

  4. Right that was great….haven’t done that in years….sitting here and swapping S888E.

Feel better for it… When my sisters used to disappear in to the scullery, ma mammy used to shout…”Leave the biscuits alone!”

I loved the taste of syrup of figs…I’m sure that’s what gave me the taste for Buckfast…which was why I went into Whitelaws that night.

We are Celtic. We do not and should not be relying on favours from other teams to help us win a league in which we enjoy an enormous advantage.

We are Celtic . WE know we are Celtic…..Do the players and management know we are Celtic?

I hope and pray they do.

I was reading through E Tims twitter and they had a link to someof Paul’s tweets, one mentioning sky sports/sevco news getting things wrong.

Last Friday night, one of the presenters was talking about Ronny being under pressure ans said Celtic have lost their last two league games including a scoreless draw against Dundee.

The guys who input the information on the autocue don’t have the highest of standards.

Following tonight’s result at Firhill ,hopefully we start supporting the players and manager more. We need a unified front.

  7. Ok, is this right?

We can afford 3 draws, as long as one is against the sheep, if we win the 7 other games.

Even if they won all their other games, it wouldn’t be enough for them.

Not a bad scenario. . . .if we were playing well, and LG was indestructible!

Like you, I want an unequivical statement from Celtic on the conduct of our fiercest and longest-standing rival and the part played by the Scottish Football authorities in any cover-up, and/or misuse of regulations.

I want David Murray and all his fellow-travellers, and their successors, held to account, for all their actions and inactions.

What I don’t want and I’m sure Celtic don’t, is some premature statement to curry favour with fans, that will almost certainly NOT contain all the relevant, indeed, important facts and revelations.

Celtic will have been legally advised that now is not the time to reveal its position and/or strategy.

Some on here state that because nothing has been said up till now, that nothing will be said – that is pure and mischevious conjecture, from individuals who know only part of the story. Celtic has always stood up for itself, just like Fergus did with Farry – when you know you’re right and importantly, can prove – that is when you strike.

I have complented Auldheid on a number of occasions for his analysis and clear examination of many things Celtic – I take issue with him on this particular pathway, because I believe that patience and proof rather than haste and assertion, are the key to us winning this argument and righting the wrongs.

  11. forget all this talk of don’t worry, or all that nonsense of how many points we will win the league by as if by magic but the bottom line is you have to earn the points no one is going to give us them , we have to do the work on the park if we don’t we are in trouble.

Aberdeen have one advantage over us.

A settled team of players with limited ability can match a team of more talented players, which is constantly changing.

Injuries aside, Ronny needs to field his strongest starting 11 and stick to it.

Oh, and it would also help if the board stopped constantly selling off our best players.

Too much churn is a recipe for underachievement.

    Game on….!

Wonder what We’ll learn from the Deila era when it ends in the summer?

I agree with earlier posters , the key for Celtic between now and the end of the season is to nail a first 11 and stick with it. We do that we are applying the Aberdeen model only with better players. We have better players but we do not have a team. Given the insane number of changes and playing staff we have has worked against any hope of team building.

It’s amazing to ponder that Ronny and Johnny ever envisaged a team, let alone one that didn’t include Griffiths.

We need to pin our hopes on the best 11….plus 4 players.

Perhaps and with hindsight it may be more relevant to ask whether RD ever actually had the dressing room.

I said on here from day one that he had to get rid of the Lennon clique comprising Mulgrew, Forrest and Stokes as they looked the prime candidates to undermine his “grand plan”.

While it could be argued that his “grand plan” may prove to be a case of the Emperor having no clothes, his failure to bin those three – and Commons after Molde away – has left him basically a dead man walking with, from where I sit, little obvious support or backing from his assistant.

  19. I have not seen one Celtic player this season who has not been fully committed.

    Our problem is not application.

It is a lack of ability, physical strength and presence, fighting character, and managerial judgement.

We are in trouble and only those living in denial or ignorant to our weaknesses will not acknowledge this.

The manager needs to set us up in a more solid system .

Play his experienced players in their best positions.

The attack needs to be set up to supply Commons and Griffiths.

Over sat few months I have felt an ever increasing gap between fans, players, management and board at CP.

IMHO there will always be a gap between the board and the fans, as , in reality there always has been, right back to Kelly / Whyte era. Even at their most popular, neither Fergus, nor Brian Quinn were particularly popular, and in my view it’s never going to change.

Moving onto the manager, he should be close to the fans, but, he isn’t, and I am not sure his position is recoverable.

    Finally the players.

There should be a real bond between us and them, and in recent months that has been missing.

Having read all the complete and utter bollocks in last 48 hours about how bad we are, and how good ‘them’ are, I think our fans will really get behind the players over the next 8/ 10 weeks and put ‘them’ and their arrogance back in their place.

We did it in WGS’ 3rd season when fans rallied behind the team, and acted like a 12th man to carry us over the line.

I fully expect similar this season – bring it on.

  21. We don’t have much margin for error, but clearly the sheep have even less, especially if they fail to win at Paradise.

One goal victory margins in amounts like they’ve had usually require some luck and daft mistakes, which can easily start going the other way.

Hopefully on the day mentioned above.

  22. I’ll be fair and acknowledge that they also require a certain resilience, as at Ross County and tonight.
