THOMSON AGREES DUMBARTON LOAN

CELTIC’S teenage midfielder Joe Thomson has agreed a five-month loan deal with Dumbarton.

The highly-rated playmaker signed a two-year extension with the Hoops in June, but Brendan Rodgers wants his youngster to get consistent first team football.

Scotland Under-19 international Thomson has made only one senior appearance for the club after joining the Parkhead development squad in 2013.

He starred for the Under-20s in their emphatic 5-1 Irn-Bru Cup success over Annan during the week.

Thomson is now the sixth Celt to be allowed to leave on a temporary deal, following Scott Allan (Rotherham), Michael Duffy (Dundee), Paul McMullan (Dunfermline), Jamie Lindsay (Morton) and Fiacre Kelleher (Peterhead).

International winger Gary Mackay-Steven is still struggling to overcome an ankle injury, but is expected to return on loan to first club Ross County once he has recovered.
