Three again outshines four at the back

303

Celtic were at their scintillating best as they hit St Johnstone with a treble of goals in the opening 26 minutes; the home team were fortunate the score was as low as three when Leigh Griffiths volleyed Greg Taylor’s cross into the net.

The link-play between Odsonne Edouard and Griffiths, as well as the crossing from Taylor and James Forrest set the tone.  The silky pitch encouraged Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham to display their range of passing, but for me, the formation is the most consistent predictor of Celtic’s performance.  When we play three at the back we play better than when we have a back four.

On Saturday we play on the bumpiest acre of Lanarkshire, so Neil has my sympathies in having to decide how to approach that game, but I would make last night’s formation the default from now on.

  1. I’m not convinced this signing will win them the league.

We signed Craig Bellamy. A proven top Premier League striker.

    Still lost the league.

  2. Don’t give a monkeys about who sevco sign. We have signed a couple of 21 year olds on deals for money and all I have heard is how we need older and wiser players. They loan in a 21 year old it’s an instant improvement ffs do me a favour.

He looked good in under 21s games, I recall Morgan being one of the best players on the pitch against holland under 21s. Boy might turn out good but it’s interesting celtic supporters instantly write of our own signing cause to young but sing praises about another team signing a kid on loan, it don’t figure.

  3. Mikey Johnston injury a bad one. Sustained ligament damage. Neil Lennon says the Celtic attacker will be out long term.

  4. What are the odds Sevco signing is fit and able enough to play this weekend. Unlike our signings who are either a) a project b) shaking off an injury or c) couple of weeks away from match fitness

  5. Bada Bing 3:29, mibbees that’s why Lenny was saying eff off, as in no another effin injury.

  6. the issue with any of our signings is that they have to prove themselves at training before they are judged suitable.

  7. !!BADA BING!! on 30TH JANUARY 2020 3:30 PM it’s always nice to know your not the only one 😉

31003 on 30TH JANUARY 2020 3:31 PM if celtic wanted to player polish paddy or soro they could have done so. Lennon has decided against it. Ps we have won all the games since polish paddy arrived and we won the game last night without soro. Does that make our managers decision correct?

At least it’s not Henrik’s son.

Huns have an option to buy on Hagi

They must still have a plentiful supply of Monopoly money then.

  9. A lot of knotted knickers on here

    Ok

Larsson HARTSON Sutton Thompson etc….shall I go on…..straight into first team. What I’m saying is we NEVER buy ready made first team players nowadays. None of the aforementioned had to “prove” themselves in training

  10. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

    @ 31003 on 30TH JANUARY 2020 3:46 PM

Jullien and Elhamed were first team ready.

  11. 31003 on 30TH JANUARY 2020 3:46 PM

Elhamed, Jullien & Elyounoussi all went straight into the first team.

  12. Dunno if Celtic should go into the market for another winger. Maybe the manager should give a chance to Arzani or Shved or Oko-Flex.

    Ryan can deputize there too.

  13. 31003 on 30TH JANUARY 2020 3:50 PM

Jullien then got pelters for 4 or 5 games until he adapted. So…..not first team ready

    ____

What Henrik Larsson did on his debut is way worse than anything Jullien did.

    Stop moving the goalposts.

Hartson took forever to “adapt” as he was 2 stone overweight. He signed in August and scored in December.

They found something to pay for Kent. I doubt this lad would cost as much.

    Me neither, hilarious.

Don’t think ‘fk off’ was said directly at MJ,more in frustration at him

    ——//

Was straight at him, then called him a wee shitebag under his breath.

Celtic reminding supporters that it’s nearly season ticket renewal time?

    In January CSC

If you phone the ticket office @ CP between 11a/m to 2p/m & ask them about this

matter BornSoupRecipe they will respond that said notification email is informing

the Club Supporters that they can now have the option renew their Season Card for

Next Season 2020/2021 over the Internet yeah that’s if they want too fine however

due to Security matters via the Net like people stealling other peoples ID & Financial

details like Visa card numbers A/c numbers sort codes etc – etc some Supporters

like myself will stick to paying them by Cash here ask them do we need to have gone

to so many Home Matches to be able to Renew? & what about their Customery

Increase? Will that come out later? & what about new signings we need to increase

our wage bill which is @ over the top levels yeah like the Highest in Coldland by

miles ahead of any other Club

  18. Why did they let mj. Back on..an injury with 10 MI s to go…crazy..could have maybe been OK..same happened with Koyassi…I vividly badly injured and sent him on for 5 mins just to make sure be was fucked

  19. CANAMALAR IT LOOKS LIKE OCD OBSESSION

    Games.

    James F 384.

    Kriss C 127.

So yes games to goals ratio Kriss stats better

On the quest for 9 in a row, James Forrest tonight equalled Kris Commons league goals total.

Only Leigh Griffiths has contributed more goals than Jamesy.

He is also the only player to score in each of the 9 league campaigns.

  20. As for Mickey Johnston well that is not good news wee Lenny said he could have

Ligament damage which means he will be out for the rest of the Season if that’s

the case hopefully not the young man MJ needs to build up his physic/build/mussels

like not too easly get shoved out of the way the young man seams to be too fragile

& easly shoved off of the ball I like his style of play he is a ‘Direct Player’ which more

of our Team Players should adapt to his style of play of being more direct instead

of side to side & pussy footing around anyway I wish the young Lad a speedy

    recovery.

  21. Bhoys – we are a couple of injuries away from risking 9 IAR. The board should be doing everyone possible to ensure we have center half coverage, physicality in midfield and another winger (MJ injury) or striker (a target man who can hold the ball up is essential to our play).

If Eduard or Jullien get injured – we will lose games.

Rangers have bullied us and the two signings , per NL, do nothing to change that for the run in.

If the board do not support the team and do everything they can to minimize the risk – the fans will never forgive them.

WE HAVE BUILT FINANCIAL MUSCLE – NOW IS THE ONLY TIME TO DEMONSTRATE IT AND PUT THEM TO THE SWORD.
