Have we progressed since the early season shambles against Legia and Maribor? Of course, we are winning regularly and playing with confidence, but it’s clear there’s also a lot more work to do. Celtic’s best performance of the season so far was in Salzburg, a more favourable wind would have seen us leave with three points, but that performance also stung Salzburg, who saw their aspirations to win the group take a hit.
It will take our best performance of the season to return a win tonight, but I’m expecting nothing less.
Sir David Murray has stuck to his “duped” story. Craig Whyte’s chosen path for Rangers was a surprise to him. This account is now to be explored in the witness box at the trial of the Ibrox Five. I suspect I could script Murray’s evidence myself, “duped”, “shocked”, “best interests of…”
Of vastly more interest will be Alastair Johnston’s evidence. Johnston and his independent board committee opposed Whyte’s takeover and made representations to Murray, which will also be revealed in the witness box.
News that Craig Whyte was arrested in Mexico and is now likely to be subject to extradition proceedings will be welcomed by few of the characters in this messy business. Whyte, as we know, recorded everything. He will be a difficult man to setup as a patsy.
The only questions is, how do I get court tickets?
Three points tonight, please, Celtic.
Many thanks to everyone who has supported the CQNBookstore. The 2015 CQN Annual is now available to pre-order for delivery week commencing 8 December, get it while it’s hot!

Salzberg obviously aren’t as good as Barca or Bayern but anybody who thinks they aren’t/weren’t better than us clearly didn’t watch the first leg.
I’ll just take the game as it comes, not saying WHOIS better than who, but we will be competitive that’s a given, and I’m not scared/afraid of them, it’s Europe, it’s Celtic Park, your chances come you take them, but as usual I’ll be going with an upbeat mind set and cheering like feck, it’s the way I was brought up as a Celtic supporter,.
Thanks Da, where ever you are.?
Tony,
Absolutely.

I agree.
GM-They were a better team than us in their own ground,we are in danger of giving them too much respect, and possibly standing off them, which is what they want. They play in Austria, not Spain or Germany.Get in about them i say.HH

I’ve been wondering about that. There is a huge amount of focus being put on a possible fraudulent transaction when Whyte bought for £1 but very little on attention to the conduct of D&P during administration or the very unusual transactions involving Green/Whyte and D&P.
If Whytes initial purchase is deemed unlawful does that then negate any subsequent wrongdoing by others?
Can’t see that being the case but what do I know.

Might look out the ole sombrero for Whytes return :-)

RIP Arthur Montford.
Remember one April Fool on Scotsport.Had Bernard Gallagher with him displaying the new rubber -shafted clubs which could drive the ball almost 500 yards and called for a redesign of golf courses. It was very well done. Scotsport was good with Arthur, Bob, Dick Lowden, Nick Larkin and Mr Second Division himself, George Steel.

if i was in charge of BBC Scotland or STV I would be replaying many of the great episodes of those football shows. When the “Football years” was on, it really was great tv.
If Weir’s Away can be repeated over and over, then some of the great football recording should be as well
Salzburg ?.
Made a point of watching them since the Europa League draw was made .
Very good up front .
Very good in mid field .
Poor defensively . Struggle with cross balls . Keeper has a tendency to flap.
fitba talk.
I want us to win tonight obviously.
But I want us to be like Celtic at home in Europe.
I want us to attack the opponents goal from the first minute.
I want the team to galvinsie the crowd, and I want Salzburg to feel they cant win, from the very first second they leave the tunnel.
Our other games in europe have been either a disaster, or a bore (even with a couple of favorable results). We got lucky last couple of games.
I want Celtic to ATTACK
ATTACK
ATTACK, ATTACK , ATTACK.

Re Arthur Montford
Scotsport used to cut to ‘crowd scenes’ during a game, and it wasnt till later years that I was told that was them changing the reel
Does anyone remember an old Lex McLean episode, when they cut to the crowd at a goal in a Celtic EC game and there was Lex jumping up and down like a good Tim.
This resulted in him getting shunned by his fellow bear mates, before eventually proving that the tv people had spliced the wrong footage into the highlights. Dangerous stuff that, panning to the crowd.
Bada,
And where do we play? ;)
I’m not completely disagreeing. I always think we play better when we play on the front foot.

Seems like all the characters are in place for a Mexican Standoff.
One of my old Uncles was a head groundsman at a Glasgow playing fields,
and to celebrate the building of floodlights,
on one of there many pitches, it was arranged that a Celtic select vrs a Rangers select was to be played on said pitch,
on the night of the game there was a healthy crowd attendance,
anyway at half time the Rangers select were winning 3-1,
So me old Uncle pulled the switch on the
floodlights, and told all that asked that he had worked long enough that day, and under no circumstances will that mob be the first team to win under his new floodlights,
he was an argumentative old git, and a legend to me,
Sadly no longer with us,
C’mon the hoops. .

Red Bull Salzburg play an energetic pressing game. They are always likely to score, whether at home or away from home. Their front 3 are better than the attack of either Maribor or Legia.
However, we have good players too and they do not have a defence or defensive structure that is too secure. This is unlikely to be a 0:0 game.
We are at home but we are not the bookie’s favourites.
In 24 Europa ties tonight there are 10 away teams that are favourites to win are Steaua, PAOK, Sevilla, Fiorentina, Young Boys, Napoli, Besiktas, Zagreb, PSV, Copenhagen, so the bookies must feel this is a competition which regularly favours away wins.
Among the away teams not fancied to win are Everton, Panathanaikos, Lille, Standard Liege, Dnipro, Brugge, Moenchengladbach and Legia (who have won their opening 4 ties).
The safest conclusion is that the tie is wide open and that attack may be our best form of defence.
Lots of things to do before the game ——
Wash and then box kilos of oranges, read over the Wee Tax Case and the Levy and McCrae stuff ( and the related interviews ) .
Its good to keep busy.
TOSB,
That wee bit at the end you quote is all I remember too. Still, fond memories. Wish I had been able in Seville to get a sombrero like the Cisco Kid’s. Now that was something…..
Hopefully doing this tonight ;)

I hope we’ve learned from the early season european debacles but I’m not convinced. Too often we played much as Celtic did in Europe in the nineties: high pressing, fullbacks bombing forward and two isolated centre halves wondering where everyone went when the opposition counter-attacked. It was no accident we waited so long to play in Europe after Christmas.
Some decent structure to our play, good quick closing down of opponents all over the park and a defensive unit is the basis we need. A solid, dominant midfield would be ncie too but I don’t want to ask for too much.
I think it’ll be a tight, tense affair and could easily finish 2-1 either way.
Police Scotland finally catch up with agent Whyte
Not for the squeamish.
Italian radio has stated that ” Great Britain ” has granted Scotland new tax raising powers .
Is that true ?

Ah Celtic in Europe in the 90’s…
How many tickers could take a game like the one we played against FC Tirol Innsbruck?
How many blood vessels could take a game like Hamburger SV in 1996?
Would I be right in saying that even if they…Red Bull…lose tonight, and win there last game at home they still top that/our division?

That’s what I’m thinking, duff and duffer are in trouble for looking after the Huns before the creditors and as far as I can see Murray wanted a quid for the Huns and whyte paid the quid, don’t see how whyte can be charged with fraud, he paid the asking price ?? HH
My major concern has been that under Ronnie Deila we have lacked defensive organisation.
Tonight will show us if he is learning from his mistakes.
If he plays EFE in central defence he will have learned nothing.
