Ticketus show their muscle

268

It’s still difficult to differentiate news which sounds important with information that is important.  Rangers doing a deal to retain their (underperforming) players for their remaining meaningless leagues games was news, but not important information.

Administrators amended their contracts to include release clauses.  This means that although top players have taken a hit on their wage packet, they will at least earn something, whereas redundancy would have left them without pay until the summer.  Their agents are also able to line up deals for them with other clubs.

In other unimportant news, Steven Davis and Neil Alexander both put their homes on the market yesterday.

The important information came from Ticketus, who own what will be the vast majority of season tickets for the next three seasons, and have partnered with Paul Murray and various supporters’ organisations to bid for Rangers.  Ticketus will not be top of Murray’s list of partner organisations but he will realise the club is in their control.

The consortium’s stated aim is to emerge from administration via a CVA, which I still regard as absolute fantasy.  As Phil Mac Giolla Bhain reminded me with his article from January, HMRC already rejected an offer of £10m to settle from Craig Whyte, notions that they would be prepared to accept less now is hilarious.

Rangers will liquidate.  Duff and Phelps plan to sell their league membership share to a new company leaves Ticketus ownership of the tickets in place.  Plans to sell the league membership to a consortium headed by the company that enabled Craig Whyte to work his magic, and a director from the old improper-contracts regime are, literally, incredible.

We must remain resolute and do everything in our power to escape from this sorry messy of a league.

I don’t think any of this is too surprising or sinister – all parties are acting as expected

Having been stiched up by Whyte Ticketus are forced to align themselves with a group that claims to want to buy RFC as a going concern – it is the only way they can retain any significant value in the tickets they own – the problem they have is that there is only one group that is going to put in such a bid the Blue Knights

The Blue Knights bid is going forward because it is sponsored by WATP and they still believe that they will be allowed to indulge in the same chicanary they have practised over the last couple of decades – they are a group of supporters still in denial

Nothing will come of it – due legal process will puncture this floated balloon

The SPL is a legal private company with an allotted share capital of £16 divided into 16 £1 shares. Each member club owns a share and when a club is relegated, it is required to transfer its share to the club who gets promoted.

Just like any other company any of the shares can be sold to any other but the articles of association have specific rules on when transfers can happen and who can purchase a share.

  3. All the posts calling for Celtic to bail out and join the EPL. Hasn’t anyone considered the rather strong probablity that the EPL will collapse in the not too distant future. All it will take is the first domino to fall….

I completely agree with you on both points. NL has made more successful signings in his time than failures. My point wasnt so much about the money spent on Juarez’s acquisition but more apoplexy at why he isnt being given a reasonable opportunity to stake a first team position. I cant remember him ever being given a consecutive run off games before we loaned him out. I just dont understand why we bought in the first place for such a figure if we were not going to give him a chance. I understand he might not have settled into life here and it may have affected his form but I didnt think he played that atrociously bad to merit being loaned out.

On the subject of how the club has been run. I completely agree, it is a testemant to the board and manager that the price paid hasnt had a catastrophic impact on our finances. I would much rather we employed a business model that awarded our youth developed players first shot at the first team than spending money on players who we are never going to play though.

For example, we have wasted £3m on Juarez were we could have built more Youth facilities at Lennoxtown. An opportunity wasted in my opinion. I hope the board and manager think twice next time before spending so much on a player and have more faith on the youth academy, investment will bring success.

  5. Can someone explain who actually owns rfc just now. What are the administrators selling?

If CW owns 85% of the club how can another third party sell what legally is not their property.

Any explanation for a confused mind?

  6. Paul,

Are you aware of our board actively trying to engineer a move? This is getting more and more corrupt and looking like we could be the team most punished as a result of this if we do not move. It is like the so called shame game again where they will escape unpunished and smirking while somehow we pay the bill.

The journo from the Irish Independent (posted earlier) claims that Celtic fans are as bad as Them and are defined by hatred and a desire to see them fail. His attitude is shared by many scottish people who have a byline in the scottish meeja.

Whilst they highlight the violence, hatred and bile that is generated whenever Celtic play ranjurz, they express, at the same time, the opinion that scottish football cannot survive without it!

When was the last time you read or heard that Celtic v ranjurz was a ‘classic’ or even ‘a good game’?

Imagine you owned a classic car, you spend money doing it up and showing it off, you take it to shows and it wins prizes, you bask in the adulation that comes with the glory. Unfortunately because you think that your car should be entering bigger competitions so you make modifications, bigger engine, luxury fittings, but it doesn’t win. You become disillusioned with the whole thing and decide to sell. Your original valuation is too high and, despite your friends aggresively marketing your car, no-one shows any interest.

You lower your price, still no interest, your friends proclaim that this is because you’re too particular about who you will sell to. You lower your price again, in the meantime the new components that you fitted prove to be unreliable and costly to repair and replace.

Rumours begin to circulate that you have funded your car by not paying your road tax, you’ve also been using fuel duty free. Your friends are outraged and proclaim that you have done nothing illegal and are only doing what every other car owner was doing.

At thhis point a man you’ve never met before, but who has a vast supply of money, offers to take your car, this object of devotion, for £1. Reluctantly you accept, but you and your friends are assured that this new owner is just what your car needs.

At first your friends are effusive in their praise of this man. They speak in hushed tones about his lavish intentions, not only is he going to totally refurbish the car, he’s also going to build a brand new garage!

A few weeks later he wraps the car round a tree, your friends are outraged at his cavalier treatment of this venerable relic of better times.

You and your friends have vociferously denounced those who had questioned the new owners’ driving licence and his poor insurance rating.

The car is taken to a garage, the mechanics are confident that they can make it roadworthy, others, who know about cars, are convinced that the car is a write-off and that people are being duped.

Your friends are dismayed but are convinced that your Roll Royce Silver Cloud will return as a Vauxhall Corsa, but it will stil be the same car! Anyone who queries this is treated as a mental defective or evil-minded sort who just doesn’t understand how important the Corsa is.

Only the manager will know why Juarez has so far failed to make the grade. He did start very well and one rumour (I know, I know) was that once we were out of Europe, his appetite dropped and this was reflected in training and so was left out of side and subsequently loaned out.

You can’t legislate for that. There is plenty of investment in the youth projects but we still need to buy first team players. Some will do great, some won’t. That’s football.

Refreshing to read a Celtic fan not wanting all money spent on players.

  14. So the Rangers Supporters have (unwittingly) paid off the debt to the bank, many thanks Craig.

They are now going into partnership with a director who was party to them being in the mire in the first place and they are going to spend their money buying out Craig for giving their money to the bank so he can line his pockets with their money. Then Paul Murray, after all the huns have dug deep to buy out Craig, are going to be asked to dig deep again for season tickets so Paul Murray can pay back ticketus for the money they lent to Craig so Craig could line his pockets with hun money. And they don’t even know what league they will be playing in other than it won’t be the champions league, not for a few years anyway and all the time Lizzie and Hector will be scheming.

The Crown is not amused but every single football supporter from here to Pluto is peeing himself with laughter.

Crunch time lads, lets all make good with those pledges, and hand over all your hard earned dosh to that other charlatan Paul Murray, or have you come to your economic senses at last?

How many times can you rip of a hun before he even realises he is being ripped off so plebs can live in castles and crooks can drive Rolls Royces?

Who was it that coined the phrase… ‘stupid huns’?

  15. Hi Paul,

Interesting situation regarding Ticketus, if they really need to get this involved to secure their investment it must mean the contractual situation and potential litigation hiatus must be a total cluster.

Watching a poor Hearts side struggle against St Mirren – not so long ago the Capital side were showing lots of promise, runners-up in GS’s first season in charge.

Of Course as R@ngers were third that year look on it as a tainted title.

  16. They can only sell the 85%. This was what David Murray owned and sold to Whyte. The rest is owned by smaller independent investors. Dave King I think still owns some of those shares, though they may reside with South African Revenue Service for now.

Neil Lennon said in an interview recently that he hadn’t paid more than (I think) £1.5M for a player. I don’t think we paid anything like the oft quoted £3M for him.

I agree with you he didn’t seem to get much of an opportunity before being loaned out…although there were stories of him misbehaving while on international duty which may have affected his chances.

I was hoping for a more optimistic leader from you.

As it now indeed appears to be all systems go for the old ”switcheroo” or whatever its called, aided by SFA, SPL the diddy teams boards and every lodge in the land.

Do you think HMRC will let the huns away with this or will they chase Newco for the debt.

After the Doncaster statement, I’m starting to get the feeling that HMRC is the only obstacle that stands in the way of a Newco hun in the SPL next season.

  19. Thanks Mort,

Does that mean the admin can legally sell CW,s share without his approval?

    Sparkleghirl……VERY INTERESTING

What, in essence, Ticketus are saying is that …

“For every £5 the consortium puts in, we’ll put in £nil…what we will do is give you a wee while longer to pay us back our money, since, if we don’t, we’ll end up with nothing..”

Fholks….Their statement, missing out all the usual spin / smoke and mirrors crap…

“Ticketus believes that the best outcome for Ticketus and our investors is for the administration process to be concluded as soon as possible, with a purchaser found who is able to bring stability to the Club….(gie us oor money back….LOL)

Ticketus has an obligation to its investors to pursue all avenues to ensure that the ticket purchase agreement it entered into with the Club is honoured, and we are committed to going to the lengths necessary to ensure that its agreement with Ticketus is fulfilled. We believe that our investors’ interests are aligned to those looking to safeguard the Club’s future.

We have already been in contact with a number of other key stakeholders, including potential bidders and fans’ representatives, and believe working collaboratively with all parties to create a solution for the Club that puts it on a secure financial footing must be everyone’s priority. (HaHaHaHa)

Ticketus looks forward to continuing to work with the administrators and serious potential bidders to secure a positive outcome for the Club….(so we can get oor money back)…LOL

We are therefore backing their bid and will be an active partner, contributing to a successful outcome……(Not an active FINANCIAL partner).

good annalergy, smiling at that, but I would say the JJ man has just dribbled the ball out of our own box, and is just starting the run.

  22. Ticketus holds a lot of season tickets for future seasons that they have already paid out £24M or so to purchase. So they have a choice: try to find a way of ensuring that matches take place so they can sell the tickets or try to get their money back.

It seems like they’ve decided to try the former first. Back a bid that might be able to deliver some football (try not to laugh too hard) even if its chances of success are very slim. They won’t be putting any additional money in, so what’s to lose?

The latter option would mean trying to claim against Criag Whyte’s “personal and corporate” guarantees. I expect that would involve legal proceedings, as the MBB isn’t likely to roll over and pay up, is he?
