FORMER Celtic favourite Kieran Tierney is a shock inclusion in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad for the Champions League.
The 27-year-old Scotland international left-back has been an outcast at the London club in recent times and spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad.
Remarkably, Tierney has not made a competitive appearance for the Gunners since May 2023.
The popular one-time Hoops performer was bought for a-then Scottish transfer record fee of £25million by former boss Unai Emery in the summer of 2019.
THE GOOD OLD DAYS…Kieran Tierney grasps the Premiership silverware.
That was matched by Filipe Jota’s move to Al-Attihad in July 2023 and eclipsed by Matt O’Riley’s near-£30million switch to Brighton last week.
Tierney is the only surprise in Arteta’s pool that has been reduced by two to 23 due to the club’s failure to meet UEFA’s requirement of including eight locally-trained players.
Arsenal are scheduled to kick off the new-look elite competition with a trip to face Atalanta in Italy a fortnight today and also face other away games against Inter Milan, Sporting Lisbon and Girona.
