TIERNEY’S RACE THROUGH ABERDEEN FANS TO GET BACK TO LIFT THE SCOTTISH CUP

KIERAN TIERNEY ran through crowds of Aberdeen fans as he battled his way back into Hampden for the Scottish Cup presentation.

The left-back had been taken to hospital with a suspected fractured jaw after receiving a belt in the face from a recklessly swinging elbow from Dons’ lumbering striker Jayden Stockley, who was sent off three times during the season for similar actions.
Tierney, though, was determined to get back to the national stadium to join in the celebrations.
Given strong painkillers, the 19-year-old defender was driven back to the ground just as Tom Rogic had scored the winning goal in stoppage time.
As disappointed Dons supporters flooded out of the exits and into the car park and roads surrounding Hampden, police refused to allow Tierney, accompanied by a member of Celtic’s medical staff, to drive through believing it was too dangerous given the number of surrounding pedestrians.Tierney left the vehicle on foot and hoofed it back through the crowds, still in boots and full Celtic kit, in order to ensure that he was there when the Cup was handed out.The Celtic-crazy youngster was given a rousing reception when he raced up the steps to lift the trophy with an emotional display towards the Hoops support.
It was well deserved!
