Time for our other two international strikers

548

10 September 2016.  Five years ago today you were almost certainly worried about the absence of Leigh Griffiths ahead of Newco visiting Celtic Park that day.  In the previous season, Leigh scored 31 league goals in 32 starts and two substitute appearances, he was on fire and the indisputable top striker in the country.  No one in Scottish football has scored at this rate since.

When he was next available for selection four games later, there was a new sheriff in town.  Moussa Dembele used those games to make sure he became indispensable to Brendan Rodger’s Celtic.  From then on, Leigh, still only 26, would be used as filler.

The prospect of a month without Kyogo Furuhashi is not the news Ange Postecoglou wanted.  Pittodrie, where we visit at the start of next month, will be testing, as will the game in Seville against Real Betis and the home tie against Bayer Leverkusen this month.  We have two other international strikers at the club, it is time for one of them to step up.

  1. Maybe the board thought that Dom was a yes man who would do their bidding.

Maybe the board got that wrong.

Maybe he was strong, ambitious for the club and honest.

Maybe this didn’t sit well with board.

  2. Bhoy From The Boyne on

The rumours of Dom McKay leaving were doing the rounds on other boards since late afternoon yesterday. The same site and a/c’s this evening are saying Dom was sacked by DD. I ignored last nights rumour but I’m inclined to believe DD had a role in this. Pity he can’t / won’t sack himself for the disastrous Eddie Howe pantomime after holding onto NL 6 months too long. We are a poorly run organisation.

  3. BHOY FROM THE BOYNE – Paul confirmed that with his one word tweet – Pushed.

For anyone claiming Paul does not control his Twitter account. Please.

  4. Although I know nothing of the circumstances, I am not surprised. Dom McKay never stepped confidently into the limelight, not once. If you are top-dog at Celtic you must assert in public. If you are the new top-dog, you must make an early & positive first impression – there was no apparent urgency by him to make that first impression. The question must be why?

This is a severe blow to Celtic’s reputation. After the last twelve difficult months it is a turn of events that the club could well do without.

What is the position and state of mind of the manager? – no panic, but a logical question in light of current events, in my opinion.

I make no assertions because I am struggling to work out what I believe. However it is hard not to draw an inference based on reason and partial evidence. There seems to be a malaise running through Celtic these days, on and off the field of play. What is behind it?

This feels like a seminal moment.

  5. Geebee,

I’m hoping Ajeti can get amongst the goals.

I’ve not given up on him yet – even if every manager that he’s played and trained under up here, have 😀👍🏼

  6. PL – happy to stay for 18 years, unchallenged.

Dom McKay – 3 months, challenged.

    We’re all challenging that fact.

    What happened?

DD is a Mason or Owns/PartOwns a Masonic hideaway.

    Celtic is just a toy.

Good on Dominic bringing in a Fantastic Coach in Ange Postecoglou.

  8. Key paragraph from the official statement concerning the appointment of Michael Nicholson.

“Michael is an absolute team player and he will lead an experienced and talented team of executives and colleagues at Celtic”.

Does this allude to the fact that Dom wasn’t “an absolute team player”?…..interesting

  9. JHB “there seems to be a malaise running through Celtic these days, on and off the field of play”

You honestly think there is a malaise on the field of play?

  10. Pete, I care not for masons or other self serving pricks.

I have had personal experience of Dermot and he is enobled in his own grandness.

Made my mate travel to Dublin to approve architectural plans for Celtic, insisted he be there, and then cancelled as he was still playing golf. Prick of highest order.

When people realise he has no interest in Celtic other than that which boosts his ego, can we move on. Parasite.

The statement reads like Michael wrote it.

    —-

Perhaps, or, at least approved it!

  12. Reality is we are all guessing, on what happened, maybe with time we will learn more, the main players will bounce back, CEO’s don’t leave empty handed and they are not out of work too long. Dom will be OK and I’m happy about that.

I must admit I’m shocked & despondent about the whole saga but as always, I follow a Football Team & my focus is now on Ross County game.

On the field of play for almost the whole of the last year – although we have seen a ‘shaft of light’ recently -should have made that clearer.

  14. Art of War,

Noone knows anything. I feel Dermot is thinking I got you 4×3

    Shocking performances.

How many seminal moments do you have in a day?

I’m inclined to think that the ‘nipping in the bud theory’ is as good as any, given I’m on record at finger pointing out, The Quiet Man.

My opinion on serious matters at the club I have supported for over forty years is valid and measured. I make no attack on anyone, or anything…unlike you. whatsoever I make observations based on material in the public domain.

You markedly do not give your opinion – do you have one? If so, do share it with us.

Any Celtic supporter should find today’s developments very uncomfortable….at the least.

THAT statement throws out more questions than answers.

What’s sure is we’ll find out what’s going on, soon enough.

My immediate concerns are for Big AP and his thoughts.
