Time for our other two international strikers

548

10 September 2016.  Five years ago today you were almost certainly worried about the absence of Leigh Griffiths ahead of Newco visiting Celtic Park that day.  In the previous season, Leigh scored 31 league goals in 32 starts and two substitute appearances, he was on fire and the indisputable top striker in the country.  No one in Scottish football has scored at this rate since.

When he was next available for selection four games later, there was a new sheriff in town.  Moussa Dembele used those games to make sure he became indispensable to Brendan Rodger’s Celtic.  From then on, Leigh, still only 26, would be used as filler.

The prospect of a month without Kyogo Furuhashi is not the news Ange Postecoglou wanted.  Pittodrie, where we visit at the start of next month, will be testing, as will the game in Seville against Real Betis and the home tie against Bayer Leverkusen this month.  We have two other international strikers at the club, it is time for one of them to step up.

  1. Smacks a bit of Brian Dempsey to me.

A very popular figure at the time, who history proved was far from what he portrayed.

Anyone jumping to conclusions and taking sides is guessing at this stage or they have there own agenda

  2. The personal reasons given as the reason for DMcK’s resignation and the follow up from Bankier about Nicolson being a Team player suggests to me that this has been about the style of DMcK the direction the club was heading in under DMcK, and, it wasnt to the liking of the plc. I think it is regressive, forget World Class in all areas,he has been in his role for many years, although he will know all about RES12 and other conflict areas and be well versed in how the Board wants these handled.

Lawwell will be the next Chairman of the Board in my opinion.

  3. BASHI BAZOUKS

Au contraire. It’s not ‘ unconscious bias against the Board.’ Quite the opposite.

  4. Some of the comments on here tonight are a disgrace. Criticising the statement for only saying Dom resigned for personal reasons, claiming he deserved more than that. Has it not occurred to people that Dom may have requested that Celtic leave it at “personal reasons” for now? I don’t know, but neither does anyone else.

Until we are told the reasons behind the resignation, I suggest the know-nithings say nothing.

    Outta here.

I’m old enough to remember when Western Media would watch the old USSR political parades and speculate about succession and life expectancy of Soviet leaders and would refer to “Seasoned Kremlinologists”.

Your earlier post showed you have an understanding – with which I agree obviously – of how the forces within the club have previously and continue to operate.

That makes you a “Seasoned Kerrydaleologist”.

Exactly ,Bankier quote about Nicholson being a team player rang alarm bells for me .

IMOthe sooner we get rid of Bankier the better

Agreed, the clue is in the meaning of the word “Personal”. The statement has it’s own marker of it’s level of confidentiality but it’s a ‘cold’ statement. It’s basic facts for the stock market.

Feel for Dom, to have a major life event happen to you or you family (I’m speculating) shortly after taking up such a great job and project must be both concerning and, frankly, very unfortunate.

Also for his PR and career good practice is to say as little as possible.

But twitter want a story, signed thank-you card posted with photos of the flowers and Jesus as his replacement.

Would quite like some of our online fans to get some PR training.

Online speculation fills the click bait and msm as well as giving der hun some distraction.

  8. And what do you expect them to say about the interim?

    That he’s a @$%&€ ????

    Do you have shares? Ffs

    Limit the damage……

  9. maybe Dom made the mistake of saying at a plc board meeting that he liked how Fergus dealt with the SFA et al…….

  10. Fanadpatriot

And if his replacement is Lawwell would that be acceptable?

Nothing about how this board operates fills me with any confidence that they will modernise and the Football Club becomes the number one priority, nothing, this today is a blow to those who were hopeful that the Board were serious about modernising, not surprising as we have very very conservative people in charge.

  11. al…….

    PHILBHOY on 10TH SEPTEMBER 2021 7:07 PM

Until we know exactly why he left, it’s all speculation.

    ————–

Of course your correct, but Celtic’s statement invites speculation.

    HH.

  12. As Hugh Keevins is currently telling listeners to SSB on Clyde1, in the absence of details all we have is speculation. And in this part of the world we certainly know how to speculate.

I just hope it’s not a health or a Matt Hancock type issue.

As has been already mentioned, the world of rugby is a million miles away from football and, this is Celtic. We eat, sleep and breath it 24/7.

In the sometimes brutal hairy arsed goldfish bowl of Glasgow rivalry, maybe Dom just isn’t hairy arsed enough ?

  13. GREENPINATA

    Agree, it was a shocker.

Oh and I widny ask Bankier to make up a cryptic clue for a crossword.

  14. ROLLING_STONE on 10TH SEPTEMBER 2021 7:17 PM

P67 just posted the following on twitter:

    “Pushed”

so maybe some of us were correct about the plc statement being p**h

I’m all for Covid passports if it keeps the moonhowling loons away from all busy events, not just Celtic Park.

Doing the huddle is a health hazard at the best of times, but during a pandemic ?

Turning up in 50,000 ( without a mask ) when the Delta variant was still running amok in Glasgow ?

We’re way behind Germany Italy and France who already have passports for the jab, and its always catch up with Covid across the globe. The world has changed including going to see your favourite football team.

Get the jab and STFU © WITS

    ……………………..

I totally agree with you and have made the same points last week. I brought it home from the game and passed it on to my wife who suffered much worse than I did. I can no longer justify the risk of bringing it back and passing it on to family and friends after sitting in a 60000 crowd. I’ve now decided that I’m not going back until mankind has a much better grip on COVID than at present. I also feel totally stupid and hypocritical for having decried those who gathered in large numbers at parties, weddings raves etc during the first lockdown.

  16. Are there known issues with this site when browsing in Chrome on an Android phone? The first page of comments is usually fine, but when i skip to the last page there’s always just a single comment. When i move to the previous page, another single comment, but now the number of pages available is down to 7 from 8. All fine from a PC.

    Thanks
