Time for Paddy, Emilio and Kelvin

808

Tomorrow Celtic have a Scottish Cup tie away to Peterhead, currently second bottom of the Third Division.  Peterhead have recorded their only two home wins of the season in the last two weeks, so Celtic’s scouts will have seen them at their best, but the break from league action will allow Neil Lennon to rest players who have been carrying niggling injuries, including James Forrest, whose terrific form could be jeopardised by the stresses of carrying such a prominent responsibility for Celtic.

The game in Peterhead will also give fringe players an opportunity to shine.  I suspect Paddy McCourt is still carrying the can for hitting the post against St Johnstone in August, the day it all started to go wrong.  We’ve missed him.  Emilio Izaguirre and Kelvin Wilson would also benefit from 90 minutes football as the squad reassembles itself, although the game might come too soon for Kris Commons.

News that Beram Kayal’s injury is likely to keep him out of action for four months was sickening.  This is the third serious injury Beram has suffered since joining Celtic 18 months ago.  I read a bit about grade 3 eversion ankle sprains yesterday.  He’ll need the best treatment and recuperation in the days and months to come.

  2. CELTIC Under-19s’ midfielder Jackson Irvine has been awarded Player of the Tournament at the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup in Germany.

Some of the best young players on the continent were on show at the six-a-side event in Stuttgart but some impressive displays from young Celt saw him scoop the accolade.

After starting the competition with the three defeats, the young Hoops finished the competition strongly, with some terrific wins over Stuttgart and the US Under-19s side, securing them seventh position in the final standings.

I think at times you expect too much from the board mate. They are not high on my love list either but are not too blame for all the ills in the world. A big day is coming for Celtic PLC that is when we should all judge them!

    ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

I would sack the board and, re-structure the club in a minute m8 but, if you can give me a reason why they should be retained apart from the worn-old balance sheet then i’m all ears/eyes !

    Hail! Hail!

we are part of Sky Sports 1’s double bill, kick off at 3.00. The Arbroath game is the warm up act kicking off at 12.45.

Incidentally, there were a few posters the otehr day suggesting Rangers might be happy with a draw giving them an additional cash generating replay at Ibrox. I’d rather Arbroath win (obviously) however Arbroath at +1 goal are 11/2 with Coral. Worth a quid.

me and Mrs B have watched the first 4 episodes and we’re both absolutely loving it. James Forest had warned me to ‘stick with it as it’s a slow burner’. Well, if it’s a slow start then goodness knows what it’ll be like when it picks up.

  11. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has claimed that rivals Manchester United are still the team to beat.

The sides meet in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, while City hold a three-point advantage over their rivals at the top of the Premier League.

United have suffered two successive league defeats in the last week, but Mancini said: “If you want my opinion, United are the best team in England.

“They have a strong team with a strong mentality and they are at the top.”

Despite spending hundreds of millions on players Mancini knows how to play the media game of title challenger

    1. Firstly, it is illegal to sell alcohol in Football stadia in Scotland, other than in enclosed areas like restaurants and club membership locations. It would take a change in the law before Celtic could provide such a facility, although I believe it is time for the law to be changed in that respect. The law was introduced in the aftermath of the 1980 Cup Final riot, but this is the 21st century. We live in the world of all-seated stadia.

I think the issue of the Commonwealth games is time constrained, with the Celtic Triangle and the 2014 games and for Celtic to get any facilities in place for the start of the Games will be tight for time. With Planning consent either via a masterplan or individual planning applications will take some time and much work all of which cost considerable sums of money. Discussions have taken place with Clyde Gateway the local Urban Regeneration Company and potential for office accommodation adjacent to the new East End Regeneration Route that passes close to the stadium at the Superstore side of the ground but I don’t think there would be a market for this type of development at the moment.

I think we should speak to the Club to try to advance the idea of converting in the short-term the London Rd. Primary school site for match day hospitality for supporters and their families, for a warm friendly environment to enjoy a refreshment and something to eat. There may be licensing problems with serving alcohol and the current legislation with sports grounds. I think that issue can be resolved by either the membership scheme or sub-contract to a fans run group. I was recently at a Newcastle match and they have Shearers Bar attached to the stadium, this with a more family themed section would be great.

There is current Planning consent for a hotel development at the corner of Springfield Rd. it looks like the developer who has the site may be having difficulties. If Celtic could do a deal with a hotel developer and move a development closer to the stadium i.e. on the Superstore corner then they could badge this as a Celtic hotel giving them the flexibility in the longer term taking over from the temporary upgrade of the Primary School. The hotel could be along the lines of a Premier Inn they already do partnerships with the likes of Beefeater etc.

You were a naughty Bhoy last night. You might not have started the rumour about bangura’s age but you did start a rumour about there being another reason for Celtic signing a few players from the same club. You also passed the rumour about bangura’s age off as fact.

Why do the Huns work for them especially from a Hun free part of the world? Let’s stick to facts. Top of the league and still fighting for three trophies. Those facts won’t offend anybody.

    Hail hail

  25. Man arrested over alleged abuse of Oldham footballer Tom Adeyemi

Tom Adeyemi was visibly upset after the incident at Anfield

Police investigating an incident of alleged racist abuse by fans at Anfield towards Oldham Athletic defender Tom Adeyemi have arrested a man.

An investigation was launched after Friday night’s Liverpool v Oldham FA Cup third-round game.

Merseyside Police said a 20-year-old man from Aintree, Merseyside, was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence.

The man is being held in custody and being interviewed by detectives.

The game was stopped briefly while Adeyemi – on loan from Norwich – alerted referee Neil Swarbrick to the incident.

  26. Tim Malone Will Tell on

With regards to the Scottish meeja sitting on the Hun story and ignoring the facts, I alway feel that the “imagine it was us” argument just plays to our Timmy paranoia image and diminishes our point.

A much better argument is to use the “400 mile litmus test” and ask yourself – and your local Scottish hack – how would this story be treated if it was Chelsea rather than Rangers and it was being reported in the English Dailys. Would they be all over it like a rash? – you bet they would!

Just think if it had been Trevor Brooking sending dodgy e-mails from his FA account or Graham Poll doing a “Dougie Dougie” – would it be plastered all over the papers and telly? Would you expect them to keep their jobs for any longer than it takes to clear a desk.

Only in Scotland do we seem to have that horrible, cosy, twitching behind the curtains discrimination and bigotry that is so ingrained that is passes for normal behaviour or “banter”.

So the next time someone tries to argue that the latest bit of hunguffery

I beg to differ, the rumour about players from AIK has been on here before, as was the thing about his age, which did come over as fact which I apologise for, it was wrong.

I also said that I knew others things, but I wouldn’t offer them up as I am not sure of the facts.

The hun media will lie about us with or without any facts, they are quite proficent at making up lies about us.

If I offended I apologise., there was no intent.
