Time for Paddy, Emilio and Kelvin

808

Tomorrow Celtic have a Scottish Cup tie away to Peterhead, currently second bottom of the Third Division.  Peterhead have recorded their only two home wins of the season in the last two weeks, so Celtic’s scouts will have seen them at their best, but the break from league action will allow Neil Lennon to rest players who have been carrying niggling injuries, including James Forrest, whose terrific form could be jeopardised by the stresses of carrying such a prominent responsibility for Celtic.

The game in Peterhead will also give fringe players an opportunity to shine.  I suspect Paddy McCourt is still carrying the can for hitting the post against St Johnstone in August, the day it all started to go wrong.  We’ve missed him.  Emilio Izaguirre and Kelvin Wilson would also benefit from 90 minutes football as the squad reassembles itself, although the game might come too soon for Kris Commons.

News that Beram Kayal’s injury is likely to keep him out of action for four months was sickening.  This is the third serious injury Beram has suffered since joining Celtic 18 months ago.  I read a bit about grade 3 eversion ankle sprains yesterday.  He’ll need the best treatment and recuperation in the days and months to come.

The mutterings of Goal line technology have only came about because of that ‘goal’

Wonder what would happen if we benefit from this technology??????

My counter argument for the ‘goal’ has been “how many yards was Hooper onside?” seems to shut them up lol

Absolutely – or Ferrgie asking the EPL to rearrange the fixtures because he didn’t fancy his chances too much against Barcelona in the Cup Final. it’s absurd.

Aye, but fergie would have brought that on himself.

    ##############

Plenty would say he already has. I would think that every other manager in the EPL would be vehement in their condemnation.

    Scotland silence.

If you ever find yourself in a position where you are in agreement with cultsbhoy about a negative Celtic story, it’s time to rethink your position.

  8. Football associations soon change their tune on goal line technology as soon as their own vested interests are affected. Note the screams for goal line technology from the english FA after lampard’s goal was disallowed in the world cup. And that was the national team where the FA’s loyalty couldn’t be questioned, not one of their domestic league members.

Anyway, I thought any such changes required FIFA/UEFA approval, even for introduction at domestic league level.

I fully expect a cup shock today at Arbroath.

I have heard it suggested that Rabiu Ibrahim is coming on trial; this may well be true. However, it has also suggested elsewhere that Salihi is coming on trial. I doubt very much if this is the case, although I do believe it is the Austrian break just now. I don’t believe he will come on trial for two reasons, he is one of Rapid’s main strikers and secondly I cannot see either Rapid or Salihi agreeing to this.

On the point of trialists, we rarely sign them, therefore I take little interest in trialists. The exception in recent times is Blackman. I hear Blackman impressed the coaching staff very much. The only reason I hear for his 18 months contract is that there are doubts about his temperament.

As well as Salihi and there is serious interest from Celtic, there are other targets being considered, which are not known to the media nor indeed myself, just from what I am told.

Commons for davie Cooper is a rubbish deal.

Once commons recovers he’ll be back into the first team, the same way he done after the previous injury.

    Did I, I can’t recall.

I support Celtic FC, I have no love for Celtic PLC, there is a world of difference.

How will you feel if newco are parachuted back into the spl, the only club that can stop this is Celtic, and stop it they can, if they are so inclined.

I believe rightly or wrongly, that the PLC are ripping the heart and sole out of the club, they are doing nothing to stop the lies that are printed and spoken on a daily basis.

They never stood up for the support re the uefa fine and just accepted it, why do that then, unless there is an ulterior motive, a juniour lawyer could have appealed that fine and got it quashed.

As for the bombs and bullits, there silence was deafening, a couple of statements that ammounted to nothing, they should have been shouting from the rooftops.

The assault on Lenny and the subsiquent aquital, they should have refused to play another game untill they were given cast iron assurances that our players and coaching staff were safe, what did we get, a statement saying that it shouldn’t happen at a football match, pathetic.

No mi amigo, I am no lover of the board.

I conceed that on the financial side of things they have done good.

Where are they when our team are getting cheated out of millions because of the corrupt regeim that is the sfa and their referees, a blind man can see what is going on.

It’s been proven that we are NOT paranoid, they can’t use that against us anymore, and yet they still stand back and say nothing, why would that be then.

As for thinking my position, I know where I stand.

    Celtic FC, Not PLC.

It’s clear what CQN’s views are regarding the Newco parachute into the SPL……….what do they do when Hearts then choose the same path? A few other clubs will take the same route total anarchy ensues……..

Just watched a clip on SSN about Darlington, in the same position but clearly more dignified about their future.

Another thought looking at the clubs in trouble in all the leagues maybe the Mayan calander was actually a football one….they did enjoy their sport.

When Rangers go and they will we must be ready to act by that have the facility in place to influence

the SPL body otherwise they’ll do what they want; Shareholders, season ticket holders and supporter affiliation groups should all have their voice…..I see no mention of any other clubs and fans views yet……like Rangers fans this may come too late for then to react properly……..and no mention of the Scottish Press role in any of this.

I’ll happily take a chance on the future of Scottish football without Rangers FC in any guise!

  15. Regards boozing at games… why should somebody who has paid a couple of thousand pound or so for his book be allowed to drink when the man who might not be able to afford that much, but is the moral equal, not be allowed to drink.

Surely that is class discrimination based on the size of your wallet. Surely that is illegal.

I hate the fact that some can drink at the game whilst others can’t, there is something medievil (sic) about it.

I agree, they are two different style players. A fit Kris Commons I would have him in my team every day of the week. He gives us the spark, the link man and can score goals himself. As you will know 14 in 18 games last season. However, I hear that Kris could be for the off either this month or in the summer.

Yeah I can appreciate that. Simon Ferry had a decent game too as did Maloney and Caldwell too, speaks volumes.

  18. lionsroars67 – I’m not sure what people expected in terms of regional sporting investment from an event wich takes place in London. However the real crux of that article in terms of regional benefits is the “Business” section, I can certainly guarantee that far more than £1m of contracts has been won by scottish companies (the article itself mentions around 60m, and that’s just two contracts).

I’ve worked in procurement on the Olympics for the past 4 years, and I can only assure you of the measures taken to ensure regional businesses were stimulated, informed, and received an equal opportunity in bidding for work. And this applies not only to direct contracts, but also clauses which ensured large contractors had to apply similar sourcing equality when selecting their sub-contractors, cascaded all the way down the supply chain.

If you really want to know then I suggest you put in a freedom of information request asking how many contracts have been won by scottish based companies, and the overall value of those contracts.

Lennybhoy, Salihi I believe has fallen out with his current manager. I dont also believe it’s a trial as he had pedigree. It’s maybe a look around stadium and training facilities. Good player and scored against us in 3-3 draw. He is at a good age at 27 although he will be a veteran in our team. He will also be relatively cheap.

I did not know he had fallen out with the management, thanks. You are correct, he should not cost a lot as he only has a few months remaining of his contract. Some believe he is as good or better than Jelavic, if he had longer on his contract, he may well command a higher fee.

I will be raging about it but I won’t attack Celtic for the fraud of rangers and their protection by the footballing authorities. We have been told by people in the know, paul67, barcabhoy, etc that Celtic will oppose their appointment to the spl. So why attack Celtic? It’s exactly what the media monkeys want.

As for the board not protecting Celtic against lies and rumours, it would get to court and the press would say “we didn’t start the rumour, it was mentioned on cqn a few times before we printed it”. See where I’m going here?

  25. Liverpool paid somewhere between £15m and £20m for a young lad just before his 21st birthday last summer. If they want Matthews, they can start the bidding at a similar amount and not some derisory made up media nonsense of £4m. I would guess that Liverpool also know that any bid southward of £5m will be rejected out of hand.

First time I have been on in a few days, just read the article and I have had the same injury as Kayal with a level 3 eversion ankle sprain. Tore a high percentage of the ligaments on my right ankle both inside and outside when some big American chap landed on me with my foot twisted playing basketball for some strange reason. (it made sense at the time)

I can confirm that it hurts like a banshee, especially when you try to put any weight on it the next morning to see if it works.

The physio at Brechin football club informed me that it would be about a year to make a full recovery (and indeed he was about spot on) and the majority of this time I had to wear an ankle brace to prevent lateral movement. He also informed me at that time that as it is twisted little sections of bone are broken off of the front of the ankle at the base of the shin and these move over time like little razors and do secondary damage.

Beram will have had these removed with the surgery as well as repairing the ligaments (I never had surgery on mine, he obviously has better health insurance than me!)

So hopefully with acute treatment and targeted recovery we shall see Beram back in a few months but I still suffer the occassional weakness in mine, any slight level changes I dont notice can result in nearly going over ankle as it is just not as strong. Hopefully this wont leave Beram with a weakness permanently.

Cheers mate. Would prefer if we kept him, i like the cut of his jib. Still, i see the figure of £4m mentioned in papers this am, which would be a nice profit in 6 months, especially if it funded a move for a top quality striker.
