Time for Paddy, Emilio and Kelvin

808

Tomorrow Celtic have a Scottish Cup tie away to Peterhead, currently second bottom of the Third Division.  Peterhead have recorded their only two home wins of the season in the last two weeks, so Celtic’s scouts will have seen them at their best, but the break from league action will allow Neil Lennon to rest players who have been carrying niggling injuries, including James Forrest, whose terrific form could be jeopardised by the stresses of carrying such a prominent responsibility for Celtic.

The game in Peterhead will also give fringe players an opportunity to shine.  I suspect Paddy McCourt is still carrying the can for hitting the post against St Johnstone in August, the day it all started to go wrong.  We’ve missed him.  Emilio Izaguirre and Kelvin Wilson would also benefit from 90 minutes football as the squad reassembles itself, although the game might come too soon for Kris Commons.

News that Beram Kayal’s injury is likely to keep him out of action for four months was sickening.  This is the third serious injury Beram has suffered since joining Celtic 18 months ago.  I read a bit about grade 3 eversion ankle sprains yesterday.  He’ll need the best treatment and recuperation in the days and months to come.

  2. lionsroar67 – The article is probably correct and actually quite fairly balanced, however it’s still selective report. It chooses to be precise on the figure which will shock, and vague on the figures which will sooth.

£1m in direct _sporting_ investment in Scotland, and then vague figures on the value to Scottish businesses and investment in the economy (which is far more important to Scotland, I’d say).

Anyway, why take my word for it, or the Herald’s? FOI is there for anyone to use and avail themselves of the true facts and figures.

  3. Sky Sports have an incredible lack of knowledge on Scottish football. Smith and Burley on the couch, even the wife has said it is like a Ragers appreciation day.

Why is there any focus on the huns today. We are the cup holders!!

When we were champions and they were cup holders, on cup weekend, they would have had the majority of the focus because of the competition.

Maybe I’ve over done the paranoia tablets this morning.

    nah.

‘We have been told by people in the know, paul67, barcabhoy, etc that Celtic will oppose their appointment to the spl. So why attack Celtic? It’s exactly what the media monkeys want.’

Paul67 has also told us that it’s the SPL board will decide the question of whether a newco huns would be allowed straight into the SPL.

That seems to be the line coming from the Celtic board.

    Are we being misled?

If we are being misled, by whom, and why?

  6. THM

I take your point re the rumours, it wont happen again from here.

I don’t accept your point that I am attacking Celtic, I am not happy with the way our board are allowing the corruption to carry on as if nothing has happened.

If the likes of us and countless other supporters can see the corruption, I would wager our board can see it, infact our last chairman even mentioned it, but yet it still goes on, the referees are hand picked for our games etc, etc,

The licences for the CL these last few years, the fact that the hun have been operating their EBT scheme, they must have furnished the sfa with false docs re the wages paid to their players, what checks were done, our board thanks to Brian Quinn knew they were wrong and stopped them, but they knew that the hun were still using them and must have known that the hun should never have received a licence for euro football, why did they not say anything ?

It’s not an attack on Celtic, it’s an attack on how our club is being run, and if you think the media monkeys will write anything about the corruption within the hun and the sfa because of the likes of me posting about the lack of action from our board………….

We are just going to have to agree to disagree.

Let’s not fall out over it.

  7. TET

Today, Arbroath has grown even further apart from wherever you are in Espana. We are suffering an infestation of Huns. One of the pubs near me had two flags out today. One a normal saltire with Arbroath FC on it; the other was a Union Jack. The Fisherman Pub will not be visited by me again.

PS I address this to you, TET, because of your normal “Hun Free” morning greeting.

You slaughter the articles financial figures BUT have none of your own

Hundreds of millions Scots have put in through the Lottery and Taxes to assist in the holding of the London Olympics

Will Scotland get back in economic investment from the olympics what we put in?

The article below says 117 Scottish companies have won contracts not just two as you said.

To date, 117 Scottish companies have secured 158 contracts. The agency says there are other contracts which will have been awarded outwith this and a conservative estimate for the value of the contracts won by Scottish businesses is in the order of “tens of millions of pounds”.

Among the major winners has been Aberdeen-based FirstGroup, which secured the contract to run bus services for spectators at the Olympics worth about £20m and Glasgow-based temporary power supply company Aggreko, which won a £37m contract.

However for example will Firstgroup exclusively use Scottish bus drivers, buy buses built in Scotland? how much of that 37 million Firstgroup have won will find its way to Scotland

Lord Coe and his ilk can spin away

If the facts proved that Scotland did indeed benefit from the London Olympics the right wing press would not keep them hidden

    Ernie lynch.

Paul67 said he had this confirmed. I imagined that it was the spl that confirmed this. Without paul67 confirming this, I wouldn’t be able to suggest who was misleading who.

  10. LuckyNumber7 – I did something similar playing Gaelic Football many moons ago as a student. Guy stood on my foot my body weight and ankle went in opposite directions.

Don’t know if it was the same injury but sounds similar.

The care and attention pro footballers get is brilliant compared to us amateurs. Beram will be out until the start of next season if he has any sense or unless, like oor Henrik he is a good healer.

It really is sickening for him and all of us. We will go through an entire season with one or other of arguably our most effective players injured. First Izzy, now Beram. I hope we can keep our centre halfs fit so that Vic can move in to midfield where he is a more than adequate replacement for Biram.

  11. On Twitter from fans going to the game.

I disagree an attack on theboard is an atack on Celtic, have absolutely no confidence in the board and believe they are complicit in the corruption in scottish football, the Celtic PLC have been defrauded of a large amount of euro money, they have done nothing about it.

TET keep digging away at the board and if people are twisted enough to try and chin you dor your honest opionion tell them to go fourth and multipy.

  14. developments around celtic park

dont see any problems with a bar, restuarant in a seperate building outwith the stadium, even if its in the stadium area, given the ecnomic needs at this time such initiative are too valuable to say no to. p.s. kilmarmock stadium has a hotel in the area which sells alcohol and there is a bar open to the public built into the stadium.

i remember reading that glasgow was the hub where most tourist based themselves in scotland and demand is expected to rise over the next 2 decades, so a hotel in terms of tourist coming it is plausable, some people forget celtic park is 5 minutes from the city centre, its very accessible. but why would celtic want another company to profit, when she can do it herself.

an enclosed area around the stadium for fans is a good idea, around this you could easily have food stalls, crazy football pitch for kids/ big kids on match pays etc…

u19 games before main event, bit like a good concert.

the problem is getting the money together to make such dreams reality, but i do beleive if we want to compete with other clubs in the bigger countries we can, but it requires such thinking and diversification of business

we have a huge fan base as a club which can be usitised to become a big club again

i’d happly punt someone like ki for 8 million if it was used to improve/ upgrade the old london road school, which celtic do own, as a means of improving very many aspects of a visit to celtic park, during the week and during match days

and remember that area by, 2016 will have another 2000+ homes will be built, or will have another 6000 – 8000 people living in an around the stadium and will have a massive complex across the road which will host many major events where thousands of people visit.

the commonwealth games openning stage ar celtic park will be beemed to 1 billion people, if celtic cant get a sponsorship for that event to at least fund some aspects of the celtic triangle then the guy responsible needs to go for someone who can

get it sorted, a wee league win then move this forward

we either change/ diversity or become a none entity

The thought about falling out never crossed my mind.

Without quitting the spl and moving to pastures new what would you suggest that the Celtic board did against a hostile media, corrupt football authorities, hostile police, anti Celtic government?

In the past you have had insider information about the boards attempts to do a Derry city. What’s changed?

  18. He was once hailed as the next big thing in Nigerian football, only for him to fizzle out even before his career had taken off. The gifted central midfielder who was widely dubbed as the next ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha after he played an integral role in Nigeria’s third FIFA U-17 World Cup victory in South Korea 2007, last week had his three-year contract terminated by top Dutch side, PSV Eindhoven, less than one year into the contract.

The sack came after Ibrahim failed to break into the PSV first-team and was subsequently fired as the contract his England-based agent negotiated for him was strictly based on his performance level at the club. A clause on his contract empowers the club to terminate their contract with him before its expiration, should he fail to meet the club’s requirements.

I would have expected the board to report the sfa and spl to the city police, demand an investigation into the administration of the game in scotland. Just like any other PLC would do when being cheated.

The fact te plc have not doen this implies they are complicit in the scottish scam.
