Time for Paddy, Emilio and Kelvin

808

Tomorrow Celtic have a Scottish Cup tie away to Peterhead, currently second bottom of the Third Division.  Peterhead have recorded their only two home wins of the season in the last two weeks, so Celtic’s scouts will have seen them at their best, but the break from league action will allow Neil Lennon to rest players who have been carrying niggling injuries, including James Forrest, whose terrific form could be jeopardised by the stresses of carrying such a prominent responsibility for Celtic.

The game in Peterhead will also give fringe players an opportunity to shine.  I suspect Paddy McCourt is still carrying the can for hitting the post against St Johnstone in August, the day it all started to go wrong.  We’ve missed him.  Emilio Izaguirre and Kelvin Wilson would also benefit from 90 minutes football as the squad reassembles itself, although the game might come too soon for Kris Commons.

News that Beram Kayal’s injury is likely to keep him out of action for four months was sickening.  This is the third serious injury Beram has suffered since joining Celtic 18 months ago.  I read a bit about grade 3 eversion ankle sprains yesterday.  He’ll need the best treatment and recuperation in the days and months to come.

I have no information on what is or has gone on behind the scenes mate.

We have had the alleged bust ups and that Kris’s family is unsettled. He certainly has been injured a lot. Personally I think a fit Kris Commons is a terrific player, somebody that gives us the spark, the link man and is sadly missed.

Why, if it is true, he is going to move on I do not know, just that I hear is a possibility.

    Keep the Faith!

It is not necessarily my view to give away an even split assuming that this was what you were thinking when writing 20-30K?.

I have done no sums. I barely ever have time to read the highlights here never mind research a post (I don’t know how paul and others on here find the time but I’m glad they do).

I do not know what each club get each year or how many tickets would be required to offset this (either fully or partially).

All I do know is how scarce my free time is, how much I enjoy watching Celtic when I can and what I would be willing to pay to watch matches live (or with a short delay) on my PC. Again though, I would only be guessing at how many others would be willing to do likewise.

I would love it if Kris stayed, he is a quality player, I did hear his family weren’t settled. but again media crap, and if it is just a bad run of injuries, I’m delighted the club are taking their time with him.

  6. nice wee story from today from Dylan McGeough’s Facebook

“So we are on our way to peterhead, driving by Aberdeen and someone notices there is a penalty shootout between 2 junior teams! Got the bus to stop and the whole team and the gaffer is standing watching this shootout! All the young team buzzing and think the players were more interested in the manager than their penalty haha brilliant”

it turns out that the Celtic Squad watched the penalty shoot out , clapping each player in turn as the prepared to take their pens

    it finished 10-9

great PR work in the north east Celtic!!

That’s sad to hear mi amigo.

But I can undersatand why, the product on the park ain’t what it was, but it hasn’t been good for some time in all fairness, our time under Big Jock was special, we had a spell under MoN when things were looking up, but then came the reality and the downsizing.

I honestly think the club are at the biggest crossroads it’s ever faced, and the right choice has to be made, or it could be the end.

The ironic thing is, the hun are the ones who are forcing us to make the choice.

  10. maisy dribble

When I was a kid, early 60’s, Celtic used to stay in my home town Stonehaven after they played Aberdeen, was a long drive in them days, and after a few of the team would stay behind and go to the local park on the sunday and take the local kids for football practice, there would be a couple of hundred kids and their parents there, it was awsome for us.

    PR at it’s finest.

  11. Speaking as one who nurses his wrath to keep it warm i’d not have 1 penny winging it’s way in Rapid’s coffers.

Thomthetim……….et al…..there is no way any team could be allowed to avoid the sanctions of administration / liquidation…..too many teams like Leeds, Airdrie etc have felt the full ‘force’, for ANY other team to be allowed to ‘worm’ their way out of it……..I am confident of that….the precedents are all there before us, anD the SFA know it…..the repercussions are unpalatable …….They have behaved shamefully in the past, but there is no way they can ‘work’ this one……..TICK TOCK !!!!

Our Board know that, if rfc had not ‘cheated’, we would going for about 15 in a row this season……..they are not nothing to us, commercially or otherwise, and our Board know that. ……

  14. Steinreignedsupreme on

A professional team of footballers taking the time to stop and watch an amateur penalty shoot-out = good.

A professional football club deliberately cheating the tax man = bad … very, very bad.

  16. tell you what, if we aint getting a quality centreback and centreforward in, then i dont want another couple of squad players, better to go out and get a couple of young guys with potential.

we need to get short of squad players not add more to to mix

What are you talking about, the ‘product’ is not as good as it used to be……The Glasgow Celtic are not a product……..they are a major part of our lives, win lose or draw……the ups and downs, the resistance and the joy of being a BHOY / GHIRL is WONDERFUL, EVERY MINUTE OF IT………That’s how I, and others, feel…….it is an experience, not a product

  19. Most of the bhoys who are beamoaning the lack of players in seem to forget we have brought in an International full back, 20 odd caps this window already, for nada.

  21. lennon's passion on

The transfer window is a big game of poker.Chairmans/agents would have you believe there are lots of clubs in for there player get the deal done Diawara.Players won`t be sold in this window for any price, young boy Rhodes will he be at Huddersfield at the end of the window.

PL love him or hate him he is good at getting good deals for Celtic.

  22. 67Heaven

Of course you are right, but without a team on the park there would be no support, it works both ways.

Celtic are a family, always have been, always will be, I have never stopped supporting the club good or bad, but times are a changing, the heart and sole is being ripped out of the club, money is becoming more important than the ethos that the club was built on, the partnership with those who hate us is a bridge too far imo, and any scheme to help those who hate us will kill the club imo.

You forgot the golden rule – anyone who is signed early in, or prior to the start, of a transfer window doesn’t count. If no deadline day signings are made we must then go onto Celtic blogs and give the Board abuse

  24. Burnley 78, All ,

Re :The vision of our custodians will be tested in the next 18 months.

Agreed, BUT , it is being tested right now.

Many in the world have woken up to the current digital media revolution , and are actively embracing it to grow their audience.

One of the best example’s is the viewing numbers that today’s host has achieved for the CQN magazine.

The numbers put the commercial acumen of Celtic PlC to shame.

I had a look the other day at the number of twitter followers for major football clubs and personalities.

Guys like Kaka, Ronaldinho have 7 / 8 million

By contrast Neil Lennon’s official twitter has 70k , and the semi official spokesman tony Hamilton has 8k !

Our biggest tweet ‘asset’ is Ki with around 170k followers. – a decent following but dwarfed by a footballing Pygmy – Landon Donovan who has 600k

For most fans, our interest in the EPL is driven by the finance.

Actually, with a bit of foresight, insight and investment we could embrace today’s digital revolution and create a very healthy profit stream.

This would give us the finance we crave for, but, we could use it to compete in the real football big league – Europe.

At its most basic – if we could get 50 % of Ki’s followers to spend the princely sum of £1 to watch our home matches online, it would be worth nearly £2m a season. Then you get Nike , a Korean car maker , etc involved and hey presto you have a £3m income stream, which requires a bit if start up , but ongoing little additional overhead.

As they say we should Just Do It.

  25. we need better players than those we have, otherwise we hold firm and buy in summer with more money to spend/ wages to offer after many of our sqaud players leave for free.

but, we do need a couple of better players, would rather now to improve chance of winning league, with no summer transfers in, than wait till summer and risk lossing the league

Plans by the Muir Group to convert the place in to a Hotel complex seem to be on ice…been a few years now. It is right beside Ardoe House which does a roaring trader – there is also an identified shortage of quality hotel accommodation in Aberdeen – so not sure why they are delaying ..must be their own lack of finance…
