Time for the real Celtic to stand up

Time for the real Celtic to stand up.  Was it 45 minutes of madness against Cluj in August?  Did the manager and captain get everything wrong?  Or, were we outplayed by a better organised unit?

Walking away from Celtic Park that night the disappointment to lose out on Champions League qualification in such circumstances was overwhelming, a fear which first manifest on hearing Callum McGregor would play left back, meaning we would be without our midfield metronome.

Boli Bolingoli had endured a harsh opening few weeks to his Celtic career, none of us were sure he was going to be the answer.  Christopher Jullien made a modest start to the season but was outjumped late in the game at Motherwell a few days before, leading to the loss of a meaningless goal.  Celtic were 1-5 ahead at that point but Chris looked tired.  Would a similar incident prove crucial in Europe?

You could see the rational for Neil leaving both on the bench when selecting a team for Cluj, even if you did not agree.

This is not a ‘do over’.  We cannot put right what went wrong, the Champions League, with all its glitz, glory and money is gone for a season at least.  Instead, we can answer some questions that only we care about.  Did we simply have a bad day at the office, or are Cluj better than us?  Tune in tonight.

  1. Rock Tree Bhoy on

I would play the same 11 that beat the huns in their own ground last time out,

with MJ out injured that would be ELYOUNOUSSI in for MJ,

and if Biton isn’t fit it would be AJER,

I think our strongest team comes from those 13 players.

  2. A judge has raised concern after Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley and Rangers became involved in another High Court fight relating to kit deals.

Judge Lionel Persey said he was “slightly disturbed” about how much court time was being taken up while overseeing the latest of a series of hearings in London.

He asked whether mediation had been considered and told lawyers that he was firing a “little shot across the bows”.

A company in the Sports Direct Group, SDI Retail Services, has complained about Rangers being in breach of obligations under deals relating to replica kit.

Bosses at the club have disputed claims made against them.

Rangers and Sports Direct back in court again over kit deal

Rangers lost a round of the fight in October 2018 and another in July.

Judge Persey said, in a ruling made in July, that he had reached no conclusion on how much compensation Rangers should pay.

SDI has now made allegations about a sports clothing company, the Elite Group, Rangers had made an agreement with – and more allegations about Rangers.

Judge Persey oversaw a preliminary hearing in that latest stage of the litigation at the High Court in London on Wednesday.

He is due to oversee a further hearing on January 17.

its also being “reported” that a Share Issue brought in £7 in Loans to buy Kent and the defender Helander. Apparently was 20 pence a Share ?

  3. Good evening, friends and Happy European Night!

Really looking forward to a hugely competitive game tonight with the chance of topping our Group at 10.00pm

Eagerly anticipating the team lines. personally I think we have 8 stick on definite starters (Forster, Jullien, Bolingoli-Mbombo, Brown, McGregor, Forrest, Christie and Edouard)

That leaves 3 places to be filled: the 2 remaining places in the back 4 (Elhamed, Ajer, Bauer and Bitton all in contention) and the remining forward midfielder (either Ntcham, Sinclair or Elyounnousi)

We have played 18 competitive games this season and in 17 of those Neil has used 3 subs. In the other one (Dunfermline) we used 4. So really tonight it’s not just about the 11 that start the game; perhaps even more importantly it could be about the 11 that finish the game.

    Oh and don’t forget cqnpoty@gmail.com ;-)

    Pie time!

  4. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

John James’ latest has just had me laughing out loud in a public place.

250 million shares ! Dearie me.

    Ponzi scheme.

    Hail hail.

  5. Watching Hun game not too bad so far but one remarkable statistic. The first foul wasn’t until the 10th minute, 15 minutes gone now and still just the one free kick.

Young Boys looking the better team but not totally dominant either.

  6. Thought sevco had no ticket allocation for the game in Switzerland?

Seem to be quite a few of thems in the stadium!

  7. Bankie. Young Boys have passed up a couple of great chances but still scoreless after 35 minutes. Huns are still in the game surprisingly.

  8. If Celtic Quick News ever did a wee T’ Shirt……….based on regular poster sayin’s……i’d go for

“On Iron Horse Heading To Paradise”

    Brilliant!

  9. Of last season’s EL group opponents Salzburg and Leipzig are both in the CL, Rosenborg back in the EL so all showing good pedigrees at European Level. That was a tough group and Brendan did well to get us out of it. This group is just as competitive and that will suit us especially if we can rediscover our European mentality of old, at home. Group stage game has to be seen differently by both the supporters and the team, the more relaxed we are the better we will do. Though obviously not too relaxed, that goes without saying.

Celts to win and top the group.

  10. Fred C Dobbs

We are now on the M73, having wovenvin and out of traffic at Castlecary and then Cumbernauld. Arbroath Emerald CSC bus in good voice. ETA at Paradise 7.15pm.
