Time on the bench gave Hooper space

1040

This season, Gary Hooper has looked well below form of last term; his touch, movement and goals record don’t match up, but he came off the bench on Thursday to score a truly excellent goal.  Controlling a difficult ball in the centre circle, with defenders in close attendance, he picked out Giorgios Samaras before sprinting past his markers and finishing.

The winner against Motherwell was less spectacular but required sharp movement and spatial awareness.

Footballers cannot always play through bad form, sometimes they need a break, even for an hour on the bench, to get a different perspective on how they and the team play.

Despite his return to form I would retain the same 4-2-3-1 formation against Inverness next time out.

  1. tommytwiststommyturns – Common sense. We are rightly or wrongly pursuing a fiscal path. They have been pursuing a fiscal path diametrically opposed to ours whilst our board have been getting lambasted for their choices. As I said, rightly or wrongly.

There is no way on God’s green earth our board will rip up their fiscal beliefs for them. Also there is no way our board would vote yes, the fallout would be too much.

    None. Nada. Zilch.

Going by common sense and logic this is not true.

I have no doubt somebody like Paul will appear shortly and confirm Phil is well wide of the mark.

  2. tommytwiststommyturns on

Not in the least bit surprised by Phil’s article, as we’ve seen plenty of examples of the board’s OF credentials. If true, I also agree that many thousands of season cards will be returned….mine included.

It would definately signal that the time was ripe for regime change!

At this point though, I think it would be a good idea if the people running our club actually put out feelers through the Associations and cyber communities to get some proper perspective.

Paul – you must be overdue an interview with the Beeb, eh?!! :-)

  3. Can’t believe Phil has this one correct there is no way the Celtic heirerchy would slit their own throats in this way.

This would make them pariahs beyond anything seen in Celtics history, christ even Mo Johnston’s move would hurt less then this.

Yes we are “Faithfull through and through” but we would not put up with this outcome without blood on the streets and I would be surprised if like minded supporters from Aberdeen etc didn’t feel the same way.

    Very true!

As for the Phil Mc comments I am in the process of writing to Celtic to express my dismay that this could be the out come.

Paul – Agree about the tactics at Inverness, but we really need a solid midfield of Kayal/Wanyama/Ledley for these tricky away fixtures. Hopefully Joe will be fit in time.

RL – I really hope you’re on the money, but I wouldn’t put anything past this current board.

  6. Celtic Board need to be very careful here, the new Rearrangers could be back up and running with a new swell of support and a full Ibrox, and Celtic could be sitting with a half empty stadium with the most disgruntled fan base in Europe.

Be very very careful Dermot Desmond.

I would rather we had a new strong Aberdeen, and Dundee United and had our own new TV channel we do not need them.

    We do not need them

If, and it is a big if (nearly as big as Lionel Richie’s enormous hands) the Celtic board have sanctioned this kind of action as reported by Phil then my season ticket would be history until every single person responsible for such a decision has long left the club.

  8. tomtheleedstim – “the Celtic board have sanctioned this kind of action as reported by Phil then my season ticket would be history until every single person responsible for such a decision has long left the club”

Do you think they are not 100% aware this would be the reaction of the bulk of the fans, if not all?

Zero chance Phil is correct on this.

As long as the defence is as vulnerable as it is at the moment 4-2-3-1 is a must and wanyama has to start every game

With you all the way on that mate. For a board obsessed with “financial prudence” can you imagine a more suicidal move?

There is no logic in the idea to speak of.

For one, we’re assuming a deal has already been brokered. If any of you actually read what Paul McConville and Brogan Rogan have written you’d know that is highly irregular and, in fact, illegal. The SPL is a licsensing authority, answerable to all its members and bound by the courts and other public bodies. Until the vacancy exists there can be no discussions of this sort.

The decision MUST be taken in accordance with the rules. No-one can base their decision on financial self interest – also illegal.

It is just not believable that our board is willing to over-turn the last ten years of their own policy making and it is simply inconcievable they could expect to survive the appalling consequences if they did.

  11. Infrequent poster here.

Just want to say that if what Phil is reporting is true, then I will not be renewing my season ticket either. Also just mentioned this to my friends who are season ticket holders too. Their opinion is the same. I despair……

If you look at the stories that Phil has broken and the level of his contacts he will not be far off the mark here.

Not sure that they are. They will bank on when it comes to it the majority will renew. They’ve been ignoring the wishes of the support for years and taking us for granted, and we keep going back.

  15. It cannot be the way forward.

If our board support a newHun FC then there would be no Celtic IMO.

Our values are totally diametrically opposed to those of the bankrupt cheats and bigots of Govan.

If our board allow them to exist by assisting them to belie natural justice then I would want no more to do with, what I believe, would be a NewCeltic PLC.

The Celtic I have loved and supported for 55 years would be a thing of the past.

Scottish football would indeed be finished as there is no merit or point in participating in a game/sport/league where all conspire to the benefit of one entity, the Hun.

I would be loathe to give up my season ticket and my support of Celtic, but I would if the board assist the NewHun in any form.

If the refereeing last season was fair and even handed we would have won the league. FACT. END OF.

That may be true, but that is not what I was disputing.

My point was that we only had ourselves to blame for throwing away our winning position. The refrerees had no bearing on that.

  22. Re post

Just an idea. If every season ticket holder were to write to Celtic PLC listing SB details and how long they have held a SB and then let them know in no uncertain terms that if the board agree to Rangers being allowed to escape unpunished we will not renew our SBs. There will be no point Scottish football will be finished the cheats will have won the Celtic supporters years of putting up with c**p about fiscal prudence and having to watch as a never ending line of inferior players are allowed to wear the hoops was in the end for nothing. We will not be back at Parkhead.

The community that is Celtic FC will always be in my heart but i would be unwilling to attend any game in a league that allows cheating and dishonesty as blatant as allowing Rangers to escape with a paltry 10 point deduction.

The Celtic FC we know will no longer exist.

I am so outraged at the thought of what Phil Mac giolla bhain is reporting coming to pass that I’m going to have to lie down in a darkened room for the rest of the day.

Scottish football, the cradle of the game, is being turned into an absolute joke.

And it’s going to be Celtic, not Rangers, who are finished if this is allowed to happen.

  25. Celtic update on Ki Sung Yueng

By: Newsroom Staff on 08 Nov, 2011 12:42

CELTIC Football Club have today clarified the situation regarding midfielder Ki Sung Yueng. It follows reports that the Celtic midfielder was in hospital for a number of tests.

A Club spokesperson said: “It is well known that Ki was unwell for a number of days, and while in Glasgow we made it our priority to ensure he received the appropriate rest and the usual high quality of care and treatment from the Celtic medical staff.

“Unfortunately, the South Korean FA demanded that he travel and then, as Ki still felt unwell, they decided to carry out various tests. We are pleased that these tests have returned normal results.

“We look forward to Ki’s condition improving and to him returning after the international break.”

Never doubted the strength of the old firm partnership, this board have shown their allegance numerous times, from exposing the home support to illegal abuse to the direct vilification of the home support. There is nothing in Phil Mac’s article that surprises me. They have decided the there can be no Celtic without the hun, there you go. IMO they are determined to destroy the club from the inside, they are relying on blind faith from the stupid money cow, and if supporters dont like it they know what they can do, but that support who take the protest action will then become responsible for the likely financial problems to hit the club, with a falling ST sales.

They have made their choice and they have chosen the hun hoard over their own, again.

The death of Celtic is upon us.

  27. I have to say that after watching Celtic for over 50 years, much of it very thin indeed, I would find it painfully hard not to go to games BUT if our Board have really embarked on the route Phil claims, I WON’T BE BACK. We have suffered for years for our financial prudence. Now, we plan to reward them for their profligacy. Give me strength.

    I’ll ask you straight out.

Did you or did you not believe that the referee fraternity has in the past affected both Celtic or Rangers league positions.

It’s time you started attending instead of getting angry at posters for airing their reasonable opinions regarding the effect the referees cheating has had on us.

It is not the only reason for our losing leagues but dont talk to me as if I am stupid and you are Mr know it all when it comes to everything Celtic.

You have went down in my opinion today James. That is very sad as I know you are way more intelligent than you are coming over today. You to often let your anger fog your views on issues rating to our club.

Couldnt agree agree more. Absolutely no chance of a deal being done. And the idea that any deal has already been agreed when the hubs haven’t even gone out of business is so crazy it makes Phil look really stupid. There’s not a chance in hell that the board would let their intentions be known before the event. I’m really surprised at the article, it’s just nonsense.

I suggest that all supporters email asap and that ST and shareholders include their details in emails.

  31. I think Phil may have been sold a dummy here, I certainly hope so,the board only need to spend 10 mins on any Celtic board to gauge the mood of the support on this. I also think the situation at Hearts is putting a spanner in the thousandaires plans. I would immagine if his plan is admin then he will want to go first. If hearts go first and go bust then rankers will have to follow suit , same for hearts if rangers go first they will want parity on any punishment handed out

  32. For Yoda’s sake.

Phils article is old news. Paul wrote an article stating as much the other week and my information concurred with Paul’s.

Get your head out the sand lads and let Dermott Desmond know your feelings and action you are prepared to take if/when he colludes to keep the Old Firm brand alive. If he does collude to allow Rangers direct re-entry then it confirms the opinion of many supporters this last few years.

I for one will not pay hard earned money knowing and having it confirmed that I support the Old Firm.

Be careful what choice you make Dermott.
