Time to call Fifa to account

819

The Fifa Executive Committee meet in Zurich today and tomorrow but it is unclear if the allegations of corruption concerning the decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar will be on the agenda.  The world body are no strangers to allegations of corruption, it seems to be an internal part of the fabric of the game at the top level, they are also extremely experienced at stonewalling such allegations.

The International Trades Union Congress, who are calling for the 2022 vote to be re-run, have called for fans attending games this weekend to turn their back on the field at the 22nd minute, to build awareness of what is going on with Fifa and the Qatari preparations.

When you get corruption at the top of an organisation it tends to undermine process all the way down.  A clean and alert Fifa would give us a far better game.  It’s time we were all asking questions about this.

Congratulations to Mrs Jobo Balde, who won at £50 voucher to spend at Cail Bruich, 725 Great Western Road.  Jobo, drop me and email……….

Seville, The Celtic Movement, is selling like the proverbial……

“I decided to go to the train station only to be told that there were no more trains to Malaga that night and so I was now truly stranded. By chance I met an old man who asked me if I knew where the train station was. “It’s no good mate they are all off—all the trains have gone!”

“The old man laughed and explained that he wasn’t looking to get a train, but just needed to find the station as that is where he had parked his car while he and his wife went to the game.

“We spoke for a few minutes about what had happened to me and then he said if I could get him to the station he would drive me to Malaga as they were staying twenty minutes outside Malaga for the rest of the week!

“I was delighted and accepted the lift and we got to the airport just as the last call went out for my flight. I rushed on board and guess who was there? None other than my mate Jim. I owe that old man and his wife so much for their help.”

  17. Bom dia.

Last night’s Libertadores matches (I’ll put up a preview of tonight’s final 4th round games in a wee whiley):-

    Atlético-MG (Bra) 1 Nacional (Par) 1

A bit of a shock result this one.

Galo came out at a 100mph pace and within the first 18mins had won two penalties. Ronaldinho missed the first, but didn’t make the same mistake twice.

For their part it was obvious that Nacional had come to park the bus and that’s exactly what they did. Game turned when Galo lost Fernandinho and Nacional scored a free kick (Riveros) soon after.

To be fair to Ronaldinho, he put a full box to box shift in and was the only one who looked capable of breaking down Nacional on the night.

Galo now lead this group with eight points, Nacional are second with five.

Peñarol (Urg) 2 Arsenal (Arg) 1

Penarol celebrated this victory, like they’d won the Cup and it’ll be interesting to see if this is the result that turns their season – I doubt it, though.

A nervy match, where Arsenal took the lead thru poor keeping. Penarol then scored two very good goals, with the winner coming from that man, Jonathan Rodrigues.

    Match highlights here:

    Penarol 2 Arsenal 1

León (Mex) 3 Emelec (Ecu) 0

Before this match I thought that Léon may have had enough to steal a point. They didn’t.

Turning point of this game was the red carding of Emelec midfielder, Osvaldo Lastra, just before half time. Game was poised at 1-0 at that stage, with Emelec making a decent fist of things. The roof fell in for them after that.

Thereafter, Emelec defended poorly against a fast moving Leon and paid the price. Leon’s goals coming from Britos, Vazquez (pen) and Carlos Pena.

Newell’s Old Boys (Arg) 1 Gremio (Bra) 1

Think I said beforehandhad the hallmarks of a squeaky bum. It was!

It took Gremio took until the 46th minute of the second half to equalize through a cavalry charge up the pitch by centre half Rhodolfo.

Maxi Rodrigues had earlier put the NOB’s in the lead in a good, closely balanced, game with both teams having good scoring chances.

However, plaudits must go to both keepers who were outstanding. Especially, Gremio’s Marcello Grohe who pulled off a few “how’d he manage that?” stops

Bolivar (Bol) 1 Flamengo (Bra) 0

Flamengo’s current weakness is their centre defence and it only took Bolivar 4mins to exploit this. Some schoolboy defending from centre back, Samid giving away a penalty, which Arcé converted for Bolivar.

Bolivar pressed without luck the rest of the match and were denied several time by ‘mengo’s MOTM, keeper Felipe.

Flamengo, now in bottom place, face a real six pointer in their next away game, to Emelec.

Coincidentally, part of Felipe’s prematch preparation is to lay his Rosary beads out behind the goal line. Wonder if he prays that ‘mengo never have to play at the Asbestdosdome??

afternoon from a very warm and sunny Lower Saxony ….I complained to the BBC about the non existence of Sportsound 15th March episode on iplayer …all other days were there but not conveniently the episode when the St Mirren Huntertainer went off on one …on air …. this was there reply which is of course just Hunnish..

    Dear Mr Neustadt Braw

    Reference CAS-2618851-BVM2G3

Thank you for contacting us about ?Sportsound?, broadcast on 15 March 2014.

The majority of BBC television and radio programmes are made available on BBC iPlayer but due to rights, some content is unavailable. In addition to this, we may experience a difficulty in making a programme available; BBC iPlayer is vastly complex, providing services on multiple platforms and if one of its many components (technical, data or operational) fails then an issue could arise. Most issues are spotted and rectified quickly and we advise that you try to access the programme at a later time.

Also, programmes that were broadcasted live (or close to live) can take longer to appear.

Not all programmes are available on all BBC iPlayer versions. Programmes that were originally broadcasted via the Red Button and some films are currently unavailable on the versions of BBC iPlayer that serves internet TVs and TV connect devices (Blu-ray players, games consoles, set top boxes).

Occasionally an issue can take longer to resolve and we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused, especially if the programme has now expired.

Please note that in general, with exception of news content, programmes are available for up to seven days after their original broadcast. For more information on this please refer to the following FAQ:

    http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/programmes/how_long

I also understand that you feel very strongly about this issue, so I’d like to assure you that I’ve fully registered your concerns. This will be included on feedback reports that are available to personnel responsible for maintaining and improving the BBC iPlayer service.

These reports are viewed as important documents that can help shape decisions on future aspects of BBC iPlayer.

Once again, thanks for taking the time to contact us.

    Kind Regards

    Patrick Clyde

Of Course forgot about that….. now our ST demands will be out in the next two months, although that’s paid via East Lothian council having two “free” months however I’ll need to find another £100 on top of that :(

  22. I don’t believe there is a snowballs chance in hell that FIFA will withdraw the world cup from Qatar. No matter how many people die in the hurried construction of the stadia and infrastructure, the tournament will go ahead there.

Too much money has changed hands and would need to be paid back in full or the Qatari’s will blow the whistle.

Neck, blow torch and couldny scratch come to mind.
