Time to call Fifa to account

819

The Fifa Executive Committee meet in Zurich today and tomorrow but it is unclear if the allegations of corruption concerning the decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar will be on the agenda.  The world body are no strangers to allegations of corruption, it seems to be an internal part of the fabric of the game at the top level, they are also extremely experienced at stonewalling such allegations.

The International Trades Union Congress, who are calling for the 2022 vote to be re-run, have called for fans attending games this weekend to turn their back on the field at the 22nd minute, to build awareness of what is going on with Fifa and the Qatari preparations.

When you get corruption at the top of an organisation it tends to undermine process all the way down.  A clean and alert Fifa would give us a far better game.  It’s time we were all asking questions about this.

Congratulations to Mrs Jobo Balde, who won at £50 voucher to spend at Cail Bruich, 725 Great Western Road.  Jobo, drop me and email……….

Seville, The Celtic Movement, is selling like the proverbial……

“I decided to go to the train station only to be told that there were no more trains to Malaga that night and so I was now truly stranded. By chance I met an old man who asked me if I knew where the train station was. “It’s no good mate they are all off—all the trains have gone!”

“The old man laughed and explained that he wasn’t looking to get a train, but just needed to find the station as that is where he had parked his car while he and his wife went to the game.

“We spoke for a few minutes about what had happened to me and then he said if I could get him to the station he would drive me to Malaga as they were staying twenty minutes outside Malaga for the rest of the week!

“I was delighted and accepted the lift and we got to the airport just as the last call went out for my flight. I rushed on board and guess who was there? None other than my mate Jim. I owe that old man and his wife so much for their help.”

  1. jc2 – you are of course correct. If Aberdeen draw either of the next 2 games we only then need 5 points for the title so 2 wins would do it.

    Apologies, all.

Everything anyone ever wanted to know about the Spring Equinox except, why is it never called the Spring Equidie?

Simple – it would sound the same when my ex said I was obdieious ;-)

    Ooops

Simple – it wouldn’t sound the same when my ex said I was obdieious ;-)

  4. SSB waxing lyrical about McKinness and Aberdeen, I honestly don’t see it, one injury in there starting line up and they gonny hit the ground with a thud, it’s all getting a wee bit over the top, but they are there and I suppose we have to live with it.

  5. Paul, it would appear to me that unfortunately , the game we love , is corrupt from top to bottom .

FIFA …. The Quatar shambles, allegations of back handers taken by officials.

UEFA..Bias towards the larger nations, shocking decisions ( eg our Rapid Vienna debacle)

Is it any wonder Regan & Ogilvie get away with it given the corrupt bunch above them?

Fergus would have destroyed them all in court.

I agree it’s no our place considering our location, but like your good self, had I been living close, and went to the games, I for one would be doing everything I could re a coordinated boycott of anything sfa, I wouldn’t be just bumping the gums and handing over cash to them.

They are laughing at us, gies yer money ya numpties, a level playing field, naw, just yer money thanks, now GTF.

Your snippets of information about the Libertadores are very much appreciated and I hope you keep posting them as the tournament advances.

Are you betting your hunches and are you ahead of the bookies at present?

I just heard the best fat sleekit mouthed young manager in scotland is getting two players.

He’s also getting four benson & hedges and five regal king size.

I’m probably a wee bit oot a poakit right now, but over the course of the competition hope to, at worst, no lose any money.

I’ve found that with these things (Brasileirão’s usually the same) as the competition progress’s, the “random” results become less and the “formbook” takes over.

My first post on that subject today was responded to by two posters.

Both concentrated on my obviously tongue in cheek remark about CO receiving the adulation from the Celtic support and ignored the thrust of my post.

Fingers in ears, la la la stuff.

It proves that it is not about the game for many, but a community gathering of like minded individuals.

That was why I mentioned Kelly’s threat to form a GAA club.

Re the dons and their manager…

Happy they’re waxing about them rather than the new club.

The more the merrier and if DU get to the final I’m happy should even more waxing follow. :-)

  17. EUFA and FIFA up to all sorts of larks, and you think they are going to listen to us complaining about the Masonic cabal running this shambles we have as a business, if the other clubs in Scotland don’t step up and start making noises then we are where we are, and going some where else isn’t going to change things, the whole game is as bent as an Arabs dagger, from top to bottom, we have been telling them for years and years that there is no level playing field here, and the rules of this game up here are for one club, and one club only, HUNS. Lurking Huns GIRUYs

  18. BRTH- Sincere condolences on the loss of your dad, a sad time for you all.

BSR- There are apparently 2 types of people in Scotland and can be identified by what they do with their tea cake wrapper- the artistic OCD types who carefully flatten out every crease (just like your picture),or, the impulsive type who roll it up into a tight ball and ping it to the nearest human, cat or dog.

What about celtic? When are we going to make a noise????????

You criticise other clubs. But celtic have the power to do something but won’t.

    And you defend them!!!!!!!

try and back up why UeFa justify skewering their tournaments towards those countries with big populations imo. clear as mud

    20 March, 2014

Corruption became part of football the first time a supposed amateur discovered a ten bob note in his boot. So we have about a hundred and fifty years of cleaning up at all levels of the game to undertake.

We should never forget the direct input of CO to the skewing of football to the advantage of the Man. Us, Reals and Barcelonas of the game.

In the 1990, it was his blueprint (pardon the pun) that was used when the European Cup was changed from an all in the hat knockout formula to sections. This was in order to protect the big clubs, THEY considered themselves to be in that category, from being knocked out of the tournament in the early rounds by minnows.

It also guaranteed the ‘bigger clubs’ a minimum number of European games per season, and virtually guaranteed that no side from a smaller league would ever again win the trophy.

This has led to a predictability, that for me at least, unless Celtic was involved, I would not be bothered watching it for free.

When we moan about the present situation, never forget who was primarily responsible for bringing it about.

The trophy itself became the Champions League and attracted, for the chosen few, shedloads of money.

    So predictable and balanced
