Time to circle the wagons

528

We all needed to get Tuesday night out of our system, but we must also put the result behind us and not allow it to bleed into the rest of the campaign.  Every game is important in the coming weeks, even the home cup-tie against Dunfermline, which in different circumstances would be viewed as an opportunity to exercise the squad.

Dunfermline, presumably AIK Stockholm, Hearts, AIK and Newco await.  We cannot afford to wallow in permanent introspective.  We need to get our act together and get on with it.

Five days ago, I was feeling good about the start to the season.  We had scored 12 goals in two league games, last season we scored seven in seven.  For all Neil made mistakes on Tuesday, he is not plotting behind our backs.  The manager, players and board will feel this as much as we do.  If things go against us in the coming weeks, you will know how alone we are.

Time to circle the wagons.

I don’t think a new CEO would be on

    4-5% salary to turnover

Club is run very poorly Spin says not but figures show very poorly run

We need a director of football and a new CEO as PL methods do not allow for a director of football

  2. Those agitatin’ for wholesale regime change at this historic juncture will catch the eye of the excitable, the tired, the emotional (and not forgettin’ the tired AND emotional)

A large part of it will be sleekit and promoted by our enemies. The sad thing is it obscures genuine, heart-felt insightful challenges to the Club by good Tims. An impossible situation for Timdom and perfect for scoddish foodbaw.

Clarity on strategy and objectives needed as a priority.

Fergus was a business man so I reckon he would just have voted Res12 down thereby denying shareholders the authorityy/opportunity to dig.

However I sense that had he any whiff of the tax shenanigans at Ibrox he would have acted long before 2012 and tackled the SFA earlier.

I can understand the Huns clinging onto any hope (we did the same 1998 to stop their cheating 10) but canny understand Celtic fans knee jerk reaction to Cluj (Athens, Maribor & co) a triple treble yet some think we are doomed … again we can laugh at the Huns and I do regularly but I wonder how “we” would act if we hadn’t won a major trophy in 7 years if this is the reaction of not making the Champions league group stages … entitlement is for the entitled :-) … disclaimer, am still gutted about Tuesday but hopefully Neil and the bhoys can get the champions back winning football games soon starting the morra

It’s still highly possible Brendan Rodgers is a Celtic supporter who wasn’t being supported in his work. Plenty Celtic men have left to follow their own ambition if the Club wouldn’t fulfil it.

Rodgers was a tad weird with his Danny McGrain and other public declarations but still think he brought unparalleled levels of excellence to the club and I hope we don’t throw the legacy out with the triumphant but bitter spit.

  7. onenightinlisbon on

A treble treble is no mean feat in any league but with the resources at our disposal we should have won everything as soon as the cheats were doomed. Serial European failure by a club with our level of financial clout is unacceptable and the manner of our loss on Tuesday cannot be underplayed. We need to stop hiding behind the treble treble, all is fine, attitude. It’s clearly not.

  9. Morning All.

I agree with TBB, PL is going nowhere at the minute and will be there for x in a row.

When he does exit stage left, he should not simply be replaced by another CEO. The entire corporate management structure at Celtic Park should be reviewed and for the amount of money commanded by PL a new CEO assisted by two senior executive officers should be installed so that there is a greater breadth and depth of knowledge within the executive function of the club.

These two then oversee the directors of marketing, retail etc

A properly constituted board could — and I stress could — consist of the CEO plus those two, a finance director, directors of marketing, retail, events and so on plus of course a Director of Football affairs and administration, plus a regular revolving door of non executive directors.

Every business school in the world will teach that model.

Simply replacing PL with another person is not progressive.

In one large organisation I know the outgoing CEO already knows who is replacement is going to be. For the last year of his tenure the new guy is going to shadow the existing CEO for twelve months before taking over. When he does take over, his predecessor is going to be on hand for the first twelve months to offer guidance, advice and experience that he has amassed while acting as CEO.

This model doesn’t work for everyone but it is something to think about as it can lead to change and smooth transition.

Changing the structure at the top has been shown to be a progressively good thing as it makes everyone buck up their ideas, introduces fresh thinking and momentum and discourages things becoming too comfortable, automatic and, to be frank, stale.

Further, this debate is often broken down into being for or against PL as an individual. I wish that would stop because it is not as simple as that and it is counter productive and totally unfair. PL does thing his way and that way is neither all right nor all wrong.

Think of Celtic as a separate person or like a car.

For the body or a car to perform to its maximum requires a whole load of different parts such as an engine, tyres, steering wheel, oil, a driver, seatbelts etc to all work perfectly at the same time no matter what the circumstances.

    OR

A brain, a heart, limbs, lungs, blood, skin, eyes , ears etc all to be in sync.

The body or the car can actually still function well without some of those components operating perfectly – but it is not going to operate at its peak potential unless all parts are looked after as best as the owner of the body or the car can.

With any company, there should always be a review of how the individual parts are moving and working and just because it worked perfectly last year that doesn’t mean to say that it will do so again this year or next and so you have to embrace gradual change and improvement.

Cars are serviced, have their tyres and their oil replaced, the engine tuned up and the brakes and batteries replaced.

The human body constantly replaces its skin, people go for check ups, have heart valves fitted, take drugs to combat this or that, change diets, get new glasses and so on.

So it should be with a company there should be constant self evaluation, corporate evolution and change for it to work to its best potential.

On a separate note Lucky Cody raised the question about what Fergus would have done re RES 12?

For the avoidance of doubt Fergus McCann retains shares in Celtic, has always stated that he would have welcomed some form of Rangers back into the top flight of Scottish Football automatically and would not have had the new club start again in league 3.

To my knowledge, he has at no time dissented from the official board view on Res 12 nor offered any criticism of the boards handling of the issues raised by Res 12.

I know various people who have spoken to him privately on this subject and his view was always that a new Rangers should be welcomed back into Scottish Football for the sake of the game as a whole.

He has shown no interest in, or expressed any comment on, the detail of the licensing position in 2011/2012.

Good points ( IMO, of course).

A Neutral comparing the achievements of ourselves and Sevco before looking at Fans` reactions would conclude that Sevco Supporters are much more behind their team than we are. Said observer would have the right to be very puzzled.

Fergus McCann also wrote to people who did not re-new their season ticket, urging them to do so, as in his words the company was well run, I also remember him saying they should not have started in the 4th division as it was a disaster for Scottish football.

  14. Auldheid. Very good thoughtful post

Do you think DD runs the club as his little hobby? He has the largest individual shareholding but is not a majority shareholder. Isn’t there a London equity house with a 20% stake in the club? Do you think they take no interest in corporate governance and permit DD to do whatever he wants?

Also, when did DD become involved in the club? He was there during the early MON years and we were run in a completely differently manner by another CEO. PL has a large influence on the manner in which the club is run. To think otherwise is kidding yourself.

  17. Having just read the scene, Peter lawwell would have been the one levelling the `big toe` insult at whoever is the most outspoken in their anger towards The Board.

I realise that this is not everyone`s cup of tea ( another one for SFTB !) but the scroll option is my saviour.

  18. The Celtic Underground article is a real eye opener. We all knew PL was taking a substantial chunk of change from the club but to look at the increase verses turnover verses on field progress in black and white is just shocking.

He has to be held to account for this and demonstrate and justify the increase but how do we do it?

  20. Just out of interest did Celtic underground also show the trend in our share price since Lawwell was appointed ?

  21. I am sick of the we can’t compete for transfer bollox – its not can’t its won’t – there is a huge difference. Maybe bull but i heard we had approached and were at advanced negotiation with at least 3 other options at full back. Sold on the club, facilities, trophies, euro comps etc. all fell when it came to wages – if you keep offering the same and you keep getting knocked back surely you must reconsider your offer and understand that to get what you want/need you may have to up it a little. We seem to have a line in sand and it will not move regardless even if the outcome is clear regression – we are no longer in touch with reality of the business side of football. Clearly this does not mean spending like idiots but looks to me like we are stuck with an unworkable policy created by the only person who that policy does not apply to.

The remuneration numbers quoted in the Celtic Underground article are correct with Lawwell, since his appointment in 2003, averaging an annual package of just shy of £1m, excluding share options and a very generous expense account.

Ian “go away and behave yourselves” Bankier (67) Chairperson and member of Remuneration Committee. Recently awarded a 60% uplift in annual remuneration to £80kpa. Why?

Tom Allison, (71) 18 years a non-exec Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee. £25kpa

Brian Wilson (70) 14 years a non – exec Director, member of Remuneration Committee £25kpa

In addition to the CEO being grossly overpaid, the board is too old and all should be punted.

  25. M17- correct, with the money available elsewhere, we need to increase offers, and get the squad fillers out to accommodate. HH

  27. Paul67 there are many who will think like you. Skunnered all week, angry, sad, annoyed, pissed off. Moving on.

This season we can match our record nine in a row. We know our enemies. They will do anything they can to divide us , weaken our team , get us to lose our faith.

This is the time to stand up as Celtic men and women. This is our year. If ever there was a time to stand behind the eleven players on the park, every game this year, it is now. Every Celt in paradise do you part this year support the team to 9 in a row. Don’t buy into the shitstorm . Glasgow is green and white. Hail Hail.

  28. Talking of alleged “moon-landings”……..

  29. There was a collective grown from celtic supporters when neil lennon was appointed and a collective cheer from sevco supporters. The appointment of neil was a clear message that the celtic board had no ambition whatsoever. sevco knew that we had just opened the door to let them in.

It is clear that dave king wants to stop 9 in a row much more than peter lawwell wants to win it. If to win this league we have to spend a lot of money then it just won’t happen.

If we crash out of Europe and they qualify then they will spend big again.

This league race is now to close to call.

    Things have changed.

  30. The media storm around Boli and Julien is as pathetic and it is predictable – a celtic signing is to be watched and any flaw blown up to bring pressure on them, the club and to divide the support. Julien in particular – beaten for one header and he’s a dud FFS??? Not aware of anything else this guy has done or not for the comments on him to be so critical. Same for Boli – has not set heather on fire but a few misplaced passes and thats him done – show me a player that wins every header and completes every pass – he doesn’t exist. Sadly i feel our manager was swayed by media/public comment on Tuesday and the damage to the team, the club, the fans but in particular to the two new players could be huge.

  31. Our supportd doesn’t half have some spoiled brats. £20 for a European game under the lights and they are moaning like feck demanding to be let in for FREE. Utterly embarrassing.
