Time to circle the wagons

528

We all needed to get Tuesday night out of our system, but we must also put the result behind us and not allow it to bleed into the rest of the campaign.  Every game is important in the coming weeks, even the home cup-tie against Dunfermline, which in different circumstances would be viewed as an opportunity to exercise the squad.

Dunfermline, presumably AIK Stockholm, Hearts, AIK and Newco await.  We cannot afford to wallow in permanent introspective.  We need to get our act together and get on with it.

Five days ago, I was feeling good about the start to the season.  We had scored 12 goals in two league games, last season we scored seven in seven.  For all Neil made mistakes on Tuesday, he is not plotting behind our backs.  The manager, players and board will feel this as much as we do.  If things go against us in the coming weeks, you will know how alone we are.

Time to circle the wagons.

Hopefully the engine room subsidiary has kicked in and both Tims are happily at work on their regular Celtic Quick News contributions with perhaps a joint submission to This Dear Green Place soon?

Lenny could have paired any two from Ajer, Simunovic and Jullien for the Cluj match. He went with the two that have played most often together. Fair enough, and it implies nothing on Lenny’s thinking on Jullien.

The concern about Boli though was a little more serious than ‘a few misplaced passes’. The fellow repeatedly gave the ball away in both the first leg and the Motherwell match, to an extent that I cannot recall a similar performance from a player at any senior club. It was remarkable.

Now, if the issue was one of confidence, him being dropped for CalMac in the Cluj return will have a considerable and negative impact. If the issue though is one of technical ability, there’s a yet bigger problem. I don’t know what the core issue with Boli’s performances is, and I certainly don’t know how to fix it, but the fellow is in a sticky spot.

Our supportd doesn’t half have some spoiled brats. £20 for a European game under the lights and they are moaning like feck demanding to be let in for FREE. Utterly embarrassing.

Quite happy to call out the Club as and when, prices for last 2 games too high IMO,£15 & £5 next week ample, even give it to the Foundation, have you read the advert? ‘ Show your support…..”? How about the Club showing support to get to the CL?

  5. TBB- Boli pleyed in the away leg in a back 4and we lost 1 goal, dropped for Tuesday, played a back 3 for some reason, and we lost 4,the manager has some serious questions to answer.

AIK next week is a very quick opportunity to right a few wrongs from the other night and secure European football until Christmas, which for several reasons should not be taken lightly.

And possibly even more importantly an immediate chance to lift some of the gloom encompassing supporters and the club following Tuesday night.

We can still have an interesting European campaign, frankly we are lucky to have the chance and we should grab it with both hands.

Of course, even if achieved it in no way exonerates the systematic failings at higher levels within the club and serious questions do not need to be asked … they have been asked (repeatedly), they now need to be answered.

  8. So many panty wetters. The entitlement at this time of year is becoming sad sack. Show me a team who wins every game every time. One loss and the whingers are out. Fuck sake call yourself supporters. Same thing happened last year, and the year before. How many bed wetters apologised at the end of the season when Neil Lennon delivered two of the three trophies, in a historic trebel treble. None. Nine in a row coming up and you can cry all you want. See you at the end of the season. Hail Hail. Standing up for the champions. Mon the hoops. Can’t wait for Neil Lennon to pick up the nine. It will destroys them. Hail Hail

  9. One of the only truly predictable things in football is that Sydney Tim and the supporting cast of eager ‘I told you Lawwell was a con man / board are corrupt’ types plus usual sad hunterlopers all emerge from their pathetic little layers to vent their bitter spleens.

Go on and fill your boots but do try to book the appointment with the psychologist along the way. Your utterances would provide an ‘entire conference of material’ to quote from Fawlty Towers.

Fortunately my Celtic was pulled from financial chaos in 2004 and has won 12 of 16 titles since then including the last 8. It has won more than 50% of all trophies competed for and appeared in post xmas europe 7 times vs none in previous 25 years. It is also financially solvent in tough trading times for non top tier leagues.

The saving grace for me is that Celtic wins a lot more than it loses but the bitterness that our amazing success brings must eat people up and does worry me a lot.

    …………………………..

Your arithmetic’s not too good. ‘One loss and the wingers are out ……………. Same thing happened last year and the year before.’ Surely that’s 3 losses. It’s not just the loss on Tuesday night that has enraged supporters. It’s the perennial clusterfuck that we have to endure during every transfer window. It’s the annual failure to prepare for these CL qualifiers when we know they are coming. It’s the appointment of a manager that most people opposed. It’s the cavalier way they did it (in the showers). You have said that we will win 9 in a row. Yes, I think so too. However, we will be having the same conversation at this time next year if the fans do not force action now. We need a change of manager and a change of strategy. We need to get in players now and in January who will give us the best chance of qualifying for next year’s CL group stages.

  15. CQN Saturday Naps Competition 2019-20

    Lads, we’re back… :)

For all the part-time punters out there, our CQN Naps competition starts back today…

Will twists n turns be around to defend his title?

For the newbies… RULES are relatively simple :

    a) On each Saturday, log onto the last page of the previous CQN article.

    b) Post only ONE ‘nap’ selection from any major Saturday international race meeting (e.g. UK, Ireland, UAE).

    c) If your initial selection is a Non-Runner, you may select an alternative runner.

    d) If your NAP selection wins, you will “win” the hypothetical profit from a £1 stake @ Starting Prices (SP).

e.g. your selection wins at 1/2, your hypothetical profit is +£ 0.50

e.g. your selection wins at 9/4, your hypothetical profit is +£ 2.25

e.g. your selection wins at 7/2, your hypothetical profit is +£ 3.50

e.g. your selection wins at 8/1, your hypothetical profit is +£ 8.00

    e) If your nap selection loses or if you fail to post any selection, then you “lose” your £1 hypothetical stake (-£1).

    f) If anyone wants to join the competition after Week 1 (e.g. in Week 3) you will be allocated two losers, and will start the competition from (-£2).

    g) Our CQN Naps Champion Tipster will be the CQN punter who shows the greatest overall profit during the season.

Last season, twists n turns was our Naps champion, with an impressive +£25.88 profit during the season.

    Happy punting everyone…

    :)

    Cheers, fleagle1888
