Time to circle the wagons

528

We all needed to get Tuesday night out of our system, but we must also put the result behind us and not allow it to bleed into the rest of the campaign.  Every game is important in the coming weeks, even the home cup-tie against Dunfermline, which in different circumstances would be viewed as an opportunity to exercise the squad.

Dunfermline, presumably AIK Stockholm, Hearts, AIK and Newco await.  We cannot afford to wallow in permanent introspective.  We need to get our act together and get on with it.

Five days ago, I was feeling good about the start to the season.  We had scored 12 goals in two league games, last season we scored seven in seven.  For all Neil made mistakes on Tuesday, he is not plotting behind our backs.  The manager, players and board will feel this as much as we do.  If things go against us in the coming weeks, you will know how alone we are.

Time to circle the wagons.

Another two quality full backs and big Vic back would delight me. In your words no faffing. Get it done, and we are good to go. Maybe another goalie, if I was being greedy Big FF back?

  2. When times are good, as they have been domestically, a lot of people are quick to say we are a very well run club.

    When things go wrong . . .

I have swayed from one position to the other over the years, but my opinion that we are in fact lacking in any kind of vision was cemented when the transfer document was leaked a few weeks back.

There it was for all to see – zero ambition. Our highly paid board actually make plans on the equivalent of a back of a fag packet.

The Cup Final dressing room appt of NL was just another example of it – these guys are just making it up as they go along. They are, quite frankly, imposters.

What does “circle the wagons” mean?

    Move along?

We need to sort things out before Sevco ruin our party, Some don’t seem to see or even think that this is a possibility.

  4. Anyway,I would fully expect Celtic to make, the next game maximum £15.Anything over that is a disgrace.Hysteria should not come into it.Oh,and I should say,£5 for kids.A full stadium required,or near enough. You know,I have to laugh at these Numpties on Twitter,is there anyone sane on there, who want everyone sacked,a boycott, making ourselves a laughing stock for the scum.

Lets do what we do best, stick together.HAIL HAIL.

  5. the opening sentence….we must put the result behind us…..wtf???……..exactly the type of attitude that hinders this great club of ours. Reluctant acceptance is the worst thing we can do.

  6. DD,

Exactly. We are still capable of great things. Can you imagine,Wanyama, prowling in Broonys role,Calmac and Ryan, let loose,a front 3 of Eddy,Griff, and Forrest, backed by,the previous 2.As backup we have Broony,Ntcham,Rogic, full backs covered. Not much money required. Why are we waiting.

  7. Deniabhoy,

We are a well run club from a domestic perspective as our squad surpasses all others in the SPL.

We are repeatedly told we are a CL club by Lawwell yet his direct lack of actions when coupled with the steer from Dermot Desmond would suggest otherwise.

We make the same mistakes over and over in qualification and while I think 4 rounds to qualify is a farce, when you look at the teams we are losing out to, then it’s time for the model to change.

Lawwell in my simply opinion needs to step back from all things recruitment and we should have a seasoned director of football in place with a good scouting setup which clearly at present is a shambles.

It’s so bloody frustrating as I was on a high, like most, over the last few weeks for it to crash and burn with KT finally going and the result on Tuesday.

It’s so annoying as it’s something we could have avoided with better planning.

    Hail Hail

  8. Circling the Wagons…. well we are a Coybow operation now…though I also thought we were the restless natives……

  9. The thing is about Fraser Forster & Wanyama… they are both on around £70k a week.

We would have to expect their parent clubs to pick up 50% of those wages. They might think its more worthwhile to keep them as squad fillers.

  10. TICTAEWIN,

So what do we do,dwell on it.Fek that.Much more to win this year than a few drubbings inbthe CL.A quadruple treble,9 in a row,a good run in Europa. You really want more?Contact Walt Disney studios. They are great at fantasys.

    BANKIEBHOY1,

Then they sit quietly in the corner when it comes the the Huns.

    Makes me sick…

    ……………………………………………….

Fred – I’ve no idea but I think the w2ay it works with these things is – The former players are interviewed or asked or prompted or by some means put in the position, facilitated t male a comment – but usually they are simply ASKED a question………….then the answer is taken…and usually used in evidence against us! The fmr player usually compromised in some way, down on their luck, in need of a gig, a few bob or a hot meal and a few drinks……………. et voila! an incendiary fear-filled comment aimed at the heart of Timdom…

The konverse with the Huns never usually happens as THOSE types of interviews or kwestyins just don’t seem to get asked….doubtless for fear of the hordes turnin’ on the savvy hack……………Thms type of kwestyins don’t sell papers or garner Klicks….thems just get ye bullets in the post, paint daubed ( dob’d?) all over yer driveway ( heated or un-heated) and abuse hurled at ye in the street by Everyone, Anywhere………

    That’s scoddland, sadly.

  14. Here’s a question:

Have we over the past few years downgraded our scouting network? I’m sure years ago we were hearing of some expansive network and now I’m reading we’re adding a South American scout to our team of 1 in Europe, 1 in North America and 3 in the UK. To me that sounds like a paltry number and also pretty poor coverage – nothing in Asia, Africa?

Surely the UK doesn’t justify or require as many scouts as the entire continent does?

    What’s going on?

  15. Delaneys Dunky on

I think we could afford to buy Fraser Forster and pay his wages. Big Vic, I think would need to loan back. How much is Defoe on?

Fraser Forster wouldn’t cost a big fee but he’s on £70k a week. That’s huge.

  17. as a supplement to the above point – I recall the hun euro debacle when following the game not ONE hack put a question to the Auld Indulged Ned – silence from a grievin’ hurting hun hack pack…………….

  18. BANKIEBHOY1,

I can agree with most of that. However, Sutton never waited on an invitation to totally destroy Bolingoli. Guy was never given a fair chance.

If he wanted first team football, he may just be up for a paycut. We have millions in the bank, after all. We should ask the question.

  20. eddieinkirkmichael on

BR was a fantastic appointment for us and he did what he was expected to do given our financial superiority, he won 2 trebles and set us on course to win a third. That’s what happens when you appoint someone who has the skills to do the job they are employed to, especially when you have a budget superior to every other club combined, It’s not entitlement to believe that trebles should always be our aim at the beginning of each season nowadays. Football has moved on considerably in the last decade those with the biggest budgets usually win the prizes. It’s been the same here in Scotland, even Ronny wasn’t far away from a treble only honest mistakes denied him one.

For the life of me though I struggle to believe one would be possible under Lenny’s stewardship and it for that reason I say get him out now before he does really flecks things up.

  21. Re replacements…dreamcasting we could go big for Abate at RB and Coentrao at LB/Def Mid.

We’re not gonna get everything we want, even if we think we’re seriously ‘owed’.

We have a CB/RB who – despite sceptics – can actually play RB. Tony R, M Perez, Kris A can deputise.

At CB we can perm from 4; Bitton, Jullien, Ajer, Simunovic

We have an LB who needs time to settle but could come good. Jonny Hayes is still under contract & LB deputy.

    Agree, still need Wanyama-esque presence.

  22. Fred…………..

True, but, call me cynical – the Produktion team that shapes these shows / things will, like the journo’s who ask leading questions of the Frank’s ( both) the Packy’s and the Jackies etc have an agreed agenda for how the programme or publication or whatever gets the most bang for the buck – what will keep its viewrrs readers or subscribers happy….and thurs obviously nothin’ like a some Tim heartbreak to galvanise that happy feelin’ in scoddland’s meeja in a way that is hunthinkable with regards to the sevvies………

  23. Stick together? I don think so.. the board HATE the fans.. we are below them just people to pay their bonus.. they don’t like the team either.. just a nuisance required to get them their bonus.

  24. DD – Unirea I think?…………………I listened on the wireless………..

There was that much silence and dead air I thought the box was broken………..

    :)

That’s but one example of glaring bias, and an example of the difference in how Celtica would / is treated. ill-concealed gloatin’ and glee. Boak-inducin’.

  25. Loves A Good Salad on

Circle the waggons? What a joke.. Especially with Dermot and Peter at the reigns.

Nothing meaningful will change whilst the club remains under Dermot Dividends control.

Lawwell in situ for over 15 years, currently on EPL wages will continue.. Overpaid incompetent that he is.

Even another being brought in to replace him, would see a continuance of the same flawed strategy, with little real material change.

If we, as a club can drop c. £10M on two new players, and bench them for our most important game of the season, then we could afford the c. £4-6M for Rafa.

Even though he’d probably leave after a couple of seasons of working with Lawwell, he’d comfortably deliver the 10, whilst regaining a semblance of respect for the club on the European stage consumerate with our spend, in spite of him.

    Neither offer effective leadership.

    They don’t add value.

    Neither deliver value either.

They only extract. Year after year.

They only ever take, increasing amounts of money from the club, through unjustifiable levels of renumeration and dividend.

Dermot needs to sell a controlling interest. He’s had plenty ROI. A new board in place. Rid the place of cronyism. Fresh operational appointments made. New strategy creation to truly realise our clubs full potential.

    Then sure, circle the waggons.

  26. Paul

As far as the team goes, I agree that, as professionals, the players have to focus, put Tuesday night behind them and keep winning the next game. However, I don’t think it’s in the best interests of the fans to do so. We cannot ignore Tuesday nights game as if it never happened. We moved on from Maribor, Molde, AEK Athens and now we’re being asked to move on again. We call Rangers supporters ‘Gullibillies’ for Paying out their money season after season to a bunch of scoundrels. We are being asked to do the same.

A huge number of fans opposed Lenny’s appointment but Lawell carried on regardless. We had just seen what a real manager of the modern game looked like and we wanted someone similar minus the narcissistic character traits. We recognised that Lenny’s day at a top team had come and gone. Just as most people knew that it was a mistake before he was appointed every Celtic fan going to the game on Tuesday night knew it was a mistake to play Callum McGregor at left back. We started with two men down. No left back and no creative metronome in the midfield. I won’t go into the game management errors. In short we quickly need to appoint a new manager to keep 9 in a row on track.

As for the transfer window. This is the time that every Celtic fan anticipates with dread each season. It is without fail a complete shambles every year. We wake up in the morning and search the chip wrappers, Celtic News Now and other media sources in the hope that we haven’t sold our latest Crown Jewels and we eagerly hope that we have signed players to fill the obvious gaps in the team where we need to strengthen. None of us believe any longer that we will try to sign a ‘blue chip’ player. At this moment we have a major problem. There is a lack of confidence amongst fans in both our manager and CEO. There is a limited time to fix it. The fans need a lift and they need reassurance. We have money in the bank and the transfer window is still open. The team needs strengthened and those in power need to take immediate, decisive action. The fans will not forget or forgive if nothing is done and we lose the league this season.

Paul, while it is good that Neil is not plotting behind our backs, he never would, it doesn’t mean he should continue as manager. Tuesday was appalling. To stop Tuesday night ‘bleeding into the rest of our season’, action needs to be taken. The fans will not allow our own version of Groundhog Day to continue with impunity. This will not go away.
