Time to revise some plans

474

Having watched previous generations of Celtic teams park the bus at Barcelona I’m not one to criticise Hamilton Accies when they do the same at Celtic Park. They put on an effective defensive performance but although the game got nervy as Celtic defended a one goal lead in the final minutes, Accies were never able to pass the ball well enough to make a genuine attempt at goal.

The only goal of the game came from a deep run by Moussa Dembele, who had dropped behind Tom Rogic, before sprinting forward to collect a pass from the Aussie. The Accies back line were concentrating on catching Leigh Griffiths offside but didn’t have the response necessary to match Dembele’s run.

It was great play from Rogic, Dembele and Griffiths, who remained in control to finish. That aside, the incredibly high standard of passing Celtic have achieved in recent weeks wasn’t matched. That’s football, it’s impossible for players, or anyone else for that matter, to perform with machine-like consistency, even John Lennon wrote the lyric, “I am a walrus”.

As well as experiencing varying levels of performance, we are now far enough into the season for teams to face Celtic with some revised plans. We play three at the back in possession, so Premiership teams push three men up when Craig Gordon has the ball, forcing the keeper to kick to the halfway line, where possession is often lost. This happened against Aberdeen, Motherwell and Accies in recent weeks.

Brendan Rodgers is miles ahead of his competition, but elements of games between now and the break will be more like chess matches than football. Not least our visit to Hamilton’s artificial surface on Christmas Eve. In the whole of 2016 only Motherwell beat Accies in consecutive games, and indication of an astonishing level of resilience by a club without the resources normally associated with senior football. Coo coo ca choo.

  1. QUONNO;

But Celtic isn’t commercial for me, it is not a business, it is a passion, a love, a family.

I have affection for those who have tried to be us, to better us. I find it hard to caste them aside because they’ve reached an imagined bar code sell by date.

  2. FAN-A-TIC @ 4:43 PM,

Thanks for that… it was the feeling I was getting from the updates.

Think your right about Griff and Moussa – The Griff has been prodigious as a Celtic striker, it must be very difficult to adapt under the circumstances.

Still Brendan has time to work on it and seems to have an amazing ability to have a transformative effect on players.

    Hail Hail

  3. Re KC

I have enjoyed his time with our club and I for one would be more than happy to see him have a last hurrah and let’s wish him well in the future.

Never heard of his wife btw

  4. I admire Lisa Hague for the work she does for her chosen charity. It must be awful to lose a baby, in any circumstances. She is brave and courageous in my opinion.

She also travelled to Aberdeen away, on our supporters bus, without trying to be flippant and in no way comparing the two, that was a brave and courageous thing to do also.

    Hail Hail Lisa.

Aye, the thievin scum don’t want you to have something they want.

Mrs Tet’s Da has a field just outside Falkirk, had the use of it for 60 + years, used to pay a feu on it till the late 70s then it stopped for some reason, he doesn’t have any papers and according to the land registry nobody does.

    He went and died.

Prob is the council want the land, they have the in house lawyers, we don’t have the money to pay one so are using the interweb as best we can, we think we have a very good case.

  9. I had the pleasure of taking my older brother in law to the game last night.

What a joy to behold his face as we wandered up to Big Billy’s statue, up Celtic Way, resplendent in Christmas illumination, up to the thre original statues, then return to the Gazebo, to gaze upon the magnificent one Gold star that says so much more.

We didn’t even need to go into the game,(of course we did), to luxuriate in the pride of being Celtic men.

    These times are good.

When you see some of nonsense posted on here, you should turn your mind to wandering up Celtic Way. Wonder if some have never tried it?

  10. Oh I forgot to add,

As a regular attender of matches, from my vantage point in the Gazebo, there are literally hundreds of visitors to Celtic Park similarly enthralled at being there as my brother in law was last night.

  11. Most folk might already know this but 5 of the SPL teams have already scored 4 or more in 1 game this season with a further 5 managing to score 3 times in a single game.

    Just saying……

  12. Kris Common’s time at CP is up. He has been a fantastic signing given not only for the price, not only for his goals from midfield but also for his influence in the team under Neil Lennon and the three league titles we won. Sentiment shouldn’t come into it, he hasn’t played at all this season so cannot be ready to play in a team looking to go through a league campaign unbeaten. By all means get him on the pitch at half time in a game to take a final bow but he shouldn’t be anywhere close to an appearance in a competitive game.

  13. EUROCHAMPS67

No one can fail to be impressed by the Celtic Way. It looks magnificent, especially at night games and especially at this time of year.

However, being CQN no doubt someone will be on in a minute bemoaning the fact that they took down the old railway bridge and the school……….

  14. No doubt commented on a billion times today already, but John Lennon never ever wrote the lyric “I am a walrus”….
