Title contenders first meeting of the season

141

It doesn’t matter who you are or who you are playing against, motivating players to win your first 13 consecutive games at a club is an impressive feat.  More so at perennial pantomime outfit Aberdeen.  That’s the form Jimmy Thelin travels to Celtic Park with tomorrow.

Their last four league wins have been narrow single-goal affairs (Ross County, Motherwell, Dundee and Hearts) but that does not necessarily imply a weakness.  He has his players battling for everything.  Aberdeen FC is a good place to be right now.

For anyone in Scottish football, Celtic Park is the big test.  Expectations among everyone will be for a home win, which itself plays into Aberdeen hands.  If they leave with a point, the dream goes on for a while yet; even a defeat can be shrugged off (although not one as onerous as 7-1).

Our recent heavy defeat and some late wins over Falkirk and Ross County aside, Celtic have been in better form than even Aberdeen this season.  The motivation to move 3 points clear at the top of the table should be all the players need to get the job done.  Patience may be required from a sell-out Celtic Park as the title contenders face each other for the first time of the season.

“when you look at issues such as gravity, the copenhagen interpretation and more relevant to what we were discussing, the hard problem of consciousness then science struggled – when discussing the mind or psyche, Jungian methodology is as good as anything science proposes.”

    —————————————

That there are things not known yet or facts & theories that are disputed, is not a disproving of the scientific method. We have dominant theories and explanations which last until there is more evidence for an alternative explanation. When Heisenberg outlined the Uncertainty Principle, Quantum Physics didn’t collapse into an armchair speculation game- which Psychoanalysis is. Neither did the Copenhagen interpretation or other disputed areas.

As for Jungian speculation being as good as Science when it comes to The Mind- it’s not even a consistent approach in itself. Those that followed Jung have deviated significantly from his positions. No Neurological research has backed any of his ideas.

As with Freud, these are rich and powerful and prevailing ideas, with no basis or evidence in Science. Worthwhile reading and speculating about but not Science- barely passable as philosophy. As scientifically valid as a Dreamcatcher is.

Fair play to Aberdeen for their start, but here’s where it begins to get more difficult.

Of course you’ll get the usual lazy journalism “six pointer” cliches but Aberdeen’s credentials won’t be defined by this game. The test for them will be what they do after that if they get a result against Celtic.

Can they then go and pick up 16-18 points in their next six games, against the lesser teams? Because Celtic will.

I just don’t see them racking up the 90+ points (even high eighties) they would need to be considered even semi-credible challengers.

  4. f the Celtic travelling fans in Europe go and behave like the Tartan Army erse wipes then getting these idiots banned is a back handed favour.

    Got a nose bleed

There are a few teams with games in hand, so it will probably change.

    Big game tomorrow against Fleetwood

  6. Part of a statement from Celtic FC on Showing Racism the Red Card

““With the recent race riots in England and the continued demonisation of migrant communities across the UK, we all have a collective responsibility to challenge all acts of racism not only within football but in our communities, workplaces and social spaces.”

Hopefully might cause a few “influencers” on here to reflect.

  7. if brendan goes to bergamo and suffers another stonking defeat i think we will be quoting the greatest pycho-analyst of them all.

to pick the same team and play in the same way while thinking there will be a different outcowell sirs, that is the very definition of insanity

You have obviously missed out on Freud’s work with and on veterans of WWI, when I say veterans I refer to victims, and survivors of that Imperial campaign of mass murder. Not the impact of WWI on Freud personally, but on his discovery that the dreams of those veterans, were not those dreams of his earlier theories, but rather literal revisions of traumatic events. Not about to discuss it with you, but would suggest that Freud’s experience with the soldiers experiences forms the basis of what is now more commonly known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – PTSD, a condition not limited to the horrors of War.

  9. Aberdeen should be confident coming into the game tomorrow, however, if we start well we can break their mindset and they could crumble. Conversely if they hold out well then their confidence will grow.

It’s down to our players to start high tempo and get the early goal. Two goal cushion and then game management can kick in

    celtic v aberdeen sold out.

but there willl be around 800 season card holders who will not attend for their own personal reasons but will not pass on the seat for someone else to occupy.

this is an unfair practice when we have a waiting list of people wanting to attend.

  11. SFTBS @ 12:22 PM,

Well it could be quite sometime before science can explain everything and the idea strikes me as akin to Billy Connolly’s, “where are we? A wish an explorer would tell us where we live”.

In the meantime consciousness exists whether science knows what it is or not.

Interesting the Freud/Jung comparison, of course Freud the senior partner did not like the tangents Carl Jung was investigating, seeing his approach as the more scientifically rigorous approach.

They split up, yet now greater value is put on the Jungian approach than Fruedian Theory.

My approach for what it is worth was summed up by Iain McGilchrist…

Two important truths, then: science cannot tell us everything; but what science can tell us is pure gold.

I agree with you. I note that others on here don’t care, but this is an important issue.

Barcelona have a ticket ‘exchange’. All you have to do, is push a button on an app. Ticket goes on sale. Barca and the ticket owner share the money…..and I got a great seat for a great game.

This stuff isn’t difficult, so I have no idea why Celtic refuses to do this.

    Weeron.

  13. Are Aberdeen real title-contenders – in fact are they genuine runner-up material? Tomorrow will go somewhere to giving us a clue. My own opinion is, much as I would like to think of them being the latter, a hae ma doots.

Looking forward to tomorrow with an absence exacerbated by yet another international interlude.

    CELTIC V DUNDEE GENERAL SALE

LOOKING AT THE SEAT MAP THERE ARE INDIVIDUAL SEATS IN EVERY SECTION AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC SALE,

it is sporadic, no general pattern, but in every “season book section” there were seats that did not sell to season book . explains why the number varies season on season, and backs up my thoughts that the ticket office kpi is a deadline day of their own, beyond which they stop seelling seats.

my old seat is available on general sale, .

other notable thing is clusters of seats that could be restricted views and therefore where not avaiable as season tickets.

the big general sale areas, the south east corners are selling well.

seems like the celtic supporting non season book holders want to attend.

  15. Title Contenders? No, Title Leaders, of which one is a Title Contender

If Celtic and Aberdeen are equal top as we go into the last five games between the top six in April, then we can safely describe them both as Title Contenders, mid October, less so.

  16. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

BTW, someone – apologies can’t recall who – challenged my post on last thread regarding proposed pyrotechnic legislation.

Poster missed the point. No harm,no foul. Happy to clarify.

Pyrotechnics have no place in stadia.

Making this a criminal offence won’t dissuade those doing it.

  17. the greedy plc got the pricing wrong for the loyal fan base.

many season book holders could not afford the 4 game package.

even more could not afford the £34 seats for a school kid.

they dont care enough , because now they can sell individual tickets for £60s as is happening again for the leipzig game.

meanwhile dortmund sell home tickets as low as 30 euros, atlanta pricing at 25 euros, liverpool kids UP TO 15 get in for nine quid.

i was with an extended group of old cqners last friday, they dont find the topic boring at all, and most make sure their tickets are used if they cannot attend.

    cheers wee ron.

    Saint Stivs,

Opened up my phone this morning to find a message from a rugby-loving mate. Seems friends of his can’t go to the Scotland v Australia game in November so he asked if I wanted the ticket. Five minutes later I had downloaded the SRU ticket app and after the ticket holders have gone to the third game on their E-ticket they will pass it on to me/my mobile so I can go to the Oz game. I will then return their E-ticket after the game.

Seems it ain’t rocket science! Keep up your campaign and perhaps someone, someday in the appropriate department at Celtic Park will institute a similar scheme.

I was home a few months ago. I was fortunate to get a ticket for the League Cup game v Hibs. Why? Because Celtic put on sale all these seats where ticket holders decided not to buy their seat. There was loads of excited young families, obviously not regular attendees.

There is no sensible reason for Celtic to NOT have a ticket ‘exchange’.

I can only suggest, as our conservative Board is hardly a beacon of creativity, that they are afraid that that regular availability of tickets might dampen the demand for season tickets.

    Cheers,

    Weeron

  22. Rodgers has added his condemnation to fans who think it is okay to light fireworks in football stadiums.

He said: “If you do keep doing it, you’re showing that you don’t really care.

“You don’t really care for the team, you don’t care for the support and you don’t care for your club because the club ultimately is getting fined as well.

There are, I think, fewer than 40 documented patients of Freud. Most of them were wealthy and none were from the poorer classes. He did have to reconsider his theories on dreams when observing battle survivors after WW1 (incidentally, he did nothing during that war, to study this subject) but he did not re-examine his fundamental view that Sex Drive and Wish Fulfilment were the driving force of dreams.

That’s what happens when you study upper class perverts.

My dreams these days are rarely about sex, unfortunately, but a lot of them involve winning the Champions League and playing for Celtic.

    Freud knew nothing about that.😀

My seat will be empty tomorrow, local CSC here in North Kildare didn’t need it in the end. That’s the only way I share it now due to awful postal service (UK side usually).

Tried my best. Shame, tis a great seat
