Title contenders first meeting of the season

141

It doesn’t matter who you are or who you are playing against, motivating players to win your first 13 consecutive games at a club is an impressive feat.  More so at perennial pantomime outfit Aberdeen.  That’s the form Jimmy Thelin travels to Celtic Park with tomorrow.

Their last four league wins have been narrow single-goal affairs (Ross County, Motherwell, Dundee and Hearts) but that does not necessarily imply a weakness.  He has his players battling for everything.  Aberdeen FC is a good place to be right now.

For anyone in Scottish football, Celtic Park is the big test.  Expectations among everyone will be for a home win, which itself plays into Aberdeen hands.  If they leave with a point, the dream goes on for a while yet; even a defeat can be shrugged off (although not one as onerous as 7-1).

Our recent heavy defeat and some late wins over Falkirk and Ross County aside, Celtic have been in better form than even Aberdeen this season.  The motivation to move 3 points clear at the top of the table should be all the players need to get the job done.  Patience may be required from a sell-out Celtic Park as the title contenders face each other for the first time of the season.

So funny we have people on here criticising Celtic board salaries which are transparent and clear for all to see….although some seem to want to use them as a weapon. Or perhaps misread or interpret them.

    Burnley78

    I disagree B78,

    I don’t see folk criticising

I see folk asking questions as simply put,it is our fookin money that pays the emollients and their bonuses.

It is our money collectively that

buys the merchandise- so much that Adidas recaliberates it’s recognition of us and nigh on guarantees a future deal with us,maybe we shall get a monthly strip for the global market, those deals don’t just happen, they happen as we fans put our hands in our pocket(without incentive and recompense) to fund our club so any questioning of what the board we pay for is necessary for a vibrant and dynamic club like ours to go on.

We are transparent only a figure appearing in the accounts,as a statutory/legal minimum, our board need to communicate more to fans who wish to know about salaries, directors pay AS ITS OUR MONEY that is being accounted for.

That’s not a weaponization of anything on my part B78,I want to be more of a fan instead of my support feeling harvested anytime I go near a Celtic shop.

We are the ones that pay for Ctv and a ground with no WiFi,you’d think having a board member who used to work with apple help push us into the late 20th century at least….again where is my money goin?

Our board is relatively small in what/how it acts.

Dermot says the rest do and we pay with our money,it’s not anti Celtic to ask what is happening with our money, the Neds nod on the kpi front, neds who, along with the rest of our board appear to annually nod year in/out meantime the geez yir dosh and shut it as you’ll be replaced ethos aligns perfectly with a board that seems to get more and more remote from it’s fans(customers)

I have knowledge of Accounts and their publishing of them,at PLC level, but the difference is an emotional investment in time, friends and cofunding sb’s to see a club that is part of my identity, nothing else matches it.

    So B78 you be Dermot

What would you change in our hierarchy?

Put a limit on term time?

    Define duties?

    Open and transparent kpi’s

Happens if DD dies, continuation, legacy arrangements etc?

I have still to read this year’s report and I know we are doing well, that to me is the time invest and get better,as it is our money that is the backbone of our success but we can do better, that’s been the Celtic way since my forebears dug out a new ground,God bless them all.

It would also be handy if the foundation simultaneously published their accounts showing the strength of Br.Walfrids ethos which lives in every Celtic fan.

    Hail Hail

  4. PL has tripled his salary as chairman this guy certainly likes a healthy wedge , of course a committee will decide what the position is worth for what he does, most of whom will be known to him.

  5. Personally I don’t think CCV will play any part today or on Wednesday he has been out for a month he is able to do more training but BR says he still has pain so no for me, don’t want another Mark Reiper scenario.

  6. An T

I lost a lovely lass from Donegal, my best man and a soulmate from Berlin who I met when we were just kids in a kibbutz in the last three months. Remembering the good times. Gotta live our best lives. Take care.

    ‘The Town that Thread Built’

    Should be out there somewhere

  10. I can’t see the full accounts that show directors salaries so I couldn’t say the exact amount that PL is being paid. I cant see them on the company house website or Celtics website where it normally would be. I dont know where the numbers have come from, which doesnt mean they arent accurate, but I’d like to see the accounts anyway so if anyone can post a link it would be appreciated

  11. ● DONT LET THÈM FORGET●

    Hampden Park was crowded

    The fans began to roar

    The dark side were singing

’bout a sash their father wore

But very soon they changed their tune

    the Celtic plan was set

    Tully crossed to Wilson

and the ball was in the net

    piling on the agony..,,,

  12. The accounts only detail what each director was paid over the course of the year, not any other salaries.

IB was paid 80k in a full year as chairman, he was paid 40k for 2023 because he didnt work the full year, PL was paid 40k for 2023. So the total Chairmans renumeration was 80k

In 2023 PL would also have been paid for his work for Celtic but it wont appear in the accounts as it wasnt done as a director.

I am guessing but I would imagine anything above the 80k directors renumeration from the Chairman’s job would include the salary that PL received for the work he did while he was a director on the football club board, not the PLC board. If he’s still doing the work for the ECA on top of the work that Ian Bankier as Chairman did its not unreasonable that he would also receive payment for it.

Its totally possible that pro rata, PL received the same amount of money for his work at Celtic in 2024 as he did in 2023

  13. I was not aware the 41k for PL was for 6 months salary, my apologies, if 80k was the going rate for Bankier [for what] he is now paid 121k, if he is working for the ECA claim a wage from them , it is still 80 or 121 a helluva wage for someone who has no day to day input into the club, so what does he do for this 6 board meetings in year is that it?

Happy to have the football back, it feels like a long time since the County game.

Good luck to the Celts today. Saturday, 3pm, 1st v 2nd. Just what the doctor ordered.

He will get paid by the ECA but he was also paid for the work by Celtic, which is right.

I think we’re in danger of being blinded by our prejudices. If it was anyone else the extra pay would be fully justified because of what having someone at the top table of European football gives Celtic.

80k isnt unreasonable for a Chairman or woman.

  17. When PL wasnt CEO or Chairman and he needed to be part of `Celtic to keep his position as Vice chair of the ECA we had to pay him a salary as an employee.
