Just as with the last round of games two weeks ago, Hearts get the chance to extend their lead at the top to five points before Celtic play a day later. On that occasion, both teams left it late, relying on added-time winners to secure home wins.
Those wins were against teams with similar form; both on 8 points and neither had until then been defeated. This weekend, Hearts are at Kilmarnock, who are third in the table, while Celtic are at 11th placed Dundee. That variance might be useful.
The game at Kilmarnock will tell us a lot about the season ahead. Killie’s only defeat this season was courtesy of that late penalty in their 1-2 defeat to Celtic. Five of their seven games have been against six of the other sides in the top seven places in the table. They are a well-organised and difficult to beat side, who after Hearts, can look forward to more comfortable matches against struggling Newco and Aberdeen.
If Derek McInnes’ Hearts can win on the Kilmarnock plastic, we will face a team fighting for the title at Tynecastle a week later, no matter what the result at Dens. The next three weeks have a crucial look to them.

Is that a rhetorical question?
If not for that solitary slip in 2020-2021, we would currently be going for 15-in-a-row.
The world record (men’s national top division) is held by Tafea FC (Vanuatu). They have won 15 consecutive titles in the Port Vila Football League from 1994–2008/09.
The European record is held by Bayern Munich. They won 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles in a row from 2013 to 2023.
I don’t know anything about Tafea FC, but the problem with our stats is it gives no indication of the lack of quality of opposition we have faced in each of those 15 years.
Most of us can still just about remember that the original 9-in-a-row was won when there was something resembling a competitive league. But 40 years has now past since Us or Them didn’t win the league (Aberdeen 84-85 season).
So yes, as Burnley points out, our dominance has been astonishing when you look at the trophy haul.
But we are not comparing like for like anymore. This century’s staggering wealth gap between us and the rest of the league should mean winning domestic titles and trophies is a bit of a foregone conclusion, there should be many more hits than misses.
Hence why we are all desperate to see us performing well in Europe and so gutted when we lose to teams that are financial paupers in comparison.
The vision and strategy that sees us qualifying for the CL regularly and managing to be at least competitive while there is the one I want to hear about.
Hmmm…” the bloggers, imho, finally just being used to delivery messages, but not driving the movement”.
You should perhaps go avail yourself of their output between the window closing and the Beer Hall Putsch.
Much like the SMSM, they now have a vested interest in perpetuating disharmony, division and discontent.
Celtic fans aren’t stupid and ‘The Movement’ will lack credibility and go nowhere with these guys associated with it, let alone taken along to a serious discussion.
Don’t forget to like and subscribe 👍

Burnley has so far, failed to mention the catalyst for all the trebles and doubles we’ve witnessed in the last ten years…
Up to that point, cup exits were very much the norm, despite the lack of hun opposition.

GGH,
Many thanks for that.
An Dún @ 8:54 pm,
It is also worth pointing out, that those who make you point about Brendan Rodgers, the trebles and the trophy haul – get the retort that BR&Co had little opposition.
Now, since Peter Lawwell was CEO (twenty years ago) this was the state of play.
SPL – Champions
2005 Rangers
2006 Celtic
2007 Celtic
2008 Celtic
2009 Rangers
2010 Rangers
2011 Rangers
2012 Celtic – Rangers went defunct.
Europe…
2006 Rangers – last 16
2007 Celtic – last 16
2008 Celtic – last 16, Rangers UEFA final
Hardly the healthiest of “old firm” opposition, yet Rangers won as many leagues as we did got to the UCL last 16 and got to a European final.
Where’s the generation of domination there!?
Hail Hail

I
Agree, our benchmark must be European football
Hh.
On the BBC site:
” One of the key issues holding up an announcement is Shanghai’s match against Quingdao Hainiu, which takes place at 11:00 BST on Friday.
It is understood Rangers and Muscat are sensitive about upsetting plans for that match by formally agreeing a deal between both clubs before kick-off.”
So sensitive that it appears on the BBC site :-)))))))
Unbelievable .
Oh wow, it’s good to be reminded of history.
In retrospect it was quite an achievement winning those titles whilst our rival screwed the taxpayer and fielded teams that they couldn’t have afforded otherwise.
Who knows what would have happened had they played by the rules.
Turkeybhoy @ 9:42 pm,
Thanks:)) got a few more where that came from.

That’s what I was thinking,,,,
Two tier Kier (and Kemi Kazi) attack the decision by West Midland Police to ban away supporters from Villa – Maccabi match next month.
Apparently the local MP Ayoub Khan (Independent) was involved in organising a petition, along with Jeremy Corbyn which gained support for a ban
He is now on Newsnight defending the decision and highlighting the scenes and the chants from Maccabi fans in Amsterdam (“no schools in Gaza” etc). Despicable behaviour, and something we in Scotland know something about. And yet the PM keeps telling us that Police have independent control over operations…..
Except that is when it goes against the grain….
The Blogger Formerly Known As GM @ 9:55 pm,
Well what Celtic managed against a financially doped Rangers since the start of the 21st Century was impressive.
Desmond Dermot, Brain Quinn and Martin O’Neil deserve great credit for transforming our Club.
Of course, it was all built on the foresight of Fergus McCann and his supporters – whose vision and execution was astounding – Fergus didn’t have a large trophy count to celebrate his achievements, yet he has a stadium and a business with solid revenue streams that have stood the test of time, that he can take credit for.
Yet, what have we achieved since then? To rest on your laurels and get handsomely rewarded while bask in the reflective glory of others is not on.
Neither our current Chairman, CEO or CFO were architects of our excellent 21st Century domestic trophy haul.
They need to be replaced with people of vigour, vitality and vision able take us to the next level.
Hail Hail
Night, all.
” Beer hall Putsch”Well one of those worked very well for Hitler in a regime change.Lets see what this one does.
Not one outlet has mentioned the Israeli fans disgustting chants and behaviour at their last away match. These fans are trouble making, extreme right wing diehards..No such fuss made about Roma fans.

No, Newsnight did address the reasons for the ban including clip from Amsterdam , and did include an interview with the local MP Ayoub Khan, who supported it. Wasn’t the main story so no time for real debate say between him, WMP, government spokesman, and indeed relevant Jewish commentators. The BBC has reduced its news output, thirty minutes only for Newsnight while running a whole range of banal “quiz shows” all day, whilst serious news is reduced to minimum. Total disgrace.
Lots of people responsible for our trophy haul this century, PL one of them. Loads of managers, players, coaches, owners, executives and others. You could probably do a list and decide who goes where in the table for the sake of argument. And show it to Fergus to see if he agrees
It’s easy to forget how bad the Sevco teams that Brendan faced in his first spell were – they finished third and would have finished third against Lenny and Ronnie. Brendan’s Celtic played in as poor a league as Lenny and Ronnie’s. And it’s a bit silly to compare Sevco teams to the EBT years Rangers. But that shouldn’t devalue Brendan’s achievements, leagues are hard won, particularly when they come one after another. Same as the leagues we’ve won over a longer period.
It’s a pretty stupid comparison to try and make anyway – PL was a CEO, BR a manager. Diffetent jobs, different responsibilities, different goals, different time frames.
To be clear, they’ve both done great jobs.

There are lots of head coaches and managers out there who understand the job these days
My money is on us finding someone who’ll buy into our model and who will be better than Martin
Who exactly is “us” within our corporate structure and what qualifications and experience in football do they have in finding “someone”
Can I also ask you what experience and knowledge in football outwith being a Celtic fan which supports your core belief which is unshakeable in the power of someone or PLC committee should be in control of buying players
have a good day
