TITLE RUN-IN: CELTIC v HEARTS GRAND FINALE?

0

CELTIC will play Hearts at Parkhead on Saturday May 16 with a 12.30pm kick-off on the day the Premiership title could be decided.

It’s heading for an intriguing grand finale to a turbulent campaign when the current leaders, three points ahead of the champions, visit Glasgow on the last day of the league season.

The SPFL top-flight post-split fixtures have been announced and Martin O’Neill’s men will kick off with a home game against Falkirk on Saturday, April 25.

That’s followed by a trip to Easter Road to face Hibs before the fourth and final match of the term against Danny Rohl’s Ibrox side takes places in the east end of Glasgow on May 10.

Three nights later, the Hoops take on Motherwell at Fir Park before the curtain comes down the following Saturday.

Explaining the last day of the fixture split with the Ibrox club travelling to Falkirk, Calum Beattie, the SPFL’s chief operating officer, told the website: “Celtic have been given a home match on the final day of the season, partly because they have three home matches post-split and Hearts and Rangers only have two.

“In recent seasons, we have been able to have the club at the top of the table entering into the split at home on the final day.

“However, that has not been possible on this occasion due to the number of competing constraints and the most exciting title race in years making each fixture round very unpredictable.

“We have a fantastic final day to look forward to with Celtic and Hearts facing off at Celtic Park, Rangers travelling to a Falkirk side that have been one of the success stories of the season and a potential battle for European spots at Easter Road.”
