TITLE UPDATE: CELTIC’S CROWN DELAY

THE SPFL emergency summit meeting yesterday did NOT discuss the so-called secret dossier containing “alarming evidence” of corruption at Hampden.

All 12 Premiership clubs were involved in a video conference and it was expected interim chairman Douglas Park and his Ibrox club would produce the proof of wrongdoing by soccer’s bosses in the vote last month to call an early halt to the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But a plan to get to the bottom of the feud between the SPFL hierarchy and the Govan outfit was scrubbed from the agenda before the meeting even began.

Although there were no public statements going into great detail of the meeting it is understood a growing number of the top-flight clubs are now resigned to ending the current season.

And that would mean Celtic being awarded their ninth successive crown, something that has been inevitable since the game went into cold storage in the middle of March with the Hoops sitting at the Premiership pinnacle with a 13-point advantage with only eight games to play.

The 51st flag in the club’s history has merely been delayed with a series of road blocks by the also-rans across the River Clyde and their fellow-backers Hearts and Stranraer, who, coincidentally, both face relegation.

The Championship, League One and League Two have already been called with Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers being handed the titles for their respective divisions.

Plans for reconstruction were also debated with two proposals – three divisions of 14 and a 14-10-10-10 set up – on the table.

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack, speaking to the Daily Record, said “This was a very productive two-hour meeting which captured the various thoughts on completing the current season and where each club stands in relation to league reconstruction.

“Crucially, there was constructive discussion on how and when football in Scotland could resume, with safety and well-being of players and fans being a key priority, along with ensuring the survival and sustainability of Scottish football.”

Another meeting of the top flight clubs has been arranged for next week when these discussions will continue.

An EGM of all 42 clubs is still scheduled for a week on Tuesday.
