TOBI ON A TIGHTROPE

ANGE POSTECOGLOU rated goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi so highly he brought the former Spurs prospect into Celtic squads preparing for Champions League games.

Today, the 22-year-old Londoner finds himself stuck in the unknown with his contract due to expire at the end of the month.

Oluwayemi spent last season on loan at Neil Lennon’s Dunfermline after injury derailed his progress during another temporary shift at Admira Wacker the previous term.

The former England Under-20 international netminder had five shut-outs in his first nine outings before fitness issues scuppered his stay at the Austrian outfit.

IN WITH A SHOUT…Tobi Oluwayemi  is waiting to hear what the future holds.

However, the athletic last line of defence made an appearance for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the 1-1 pre-season draw with Ayr United at Somerset Park in July last year.

He played a part of the match against Scott Brown’s team as he shared the duties with Scott Bain and Josh Clarke.

However, he was allowed to go to the Fifers when it was clear he would be fourth choice behind Kasper Schmeichel, Viljami Sinisalo and Bain.

There could be an opening with three times-capped Bain moving to Falkirk after his early release, but already there is talk of the club looking outside Parkhead for his replacement.

Reflecting on his time at East End Park where he had 12 shut-outs in 34 appearances, Oluwayemi said: “It’s been a good season for me.

“It’s been enjoyable, I’ve learned a lot. The experience has been invaluable for me.

A BIG HAND…Tobi Oluwayemi is greeted by Brendan Rodgers as he makes way in the 1-1 friendly draw with Ayr United at Somerset Park last July.

“When you go on loan, the main thing you want is games, minutes, and I’ve been able to do that, so it’s been positive.”

Asked about the future, the keeper, speaking to the Dunfermline Press, answered: “Honestly, I don’t know.

“As a player, you just focus on where you are and what you have to do, and you leave all the things up to the people that make the decisions, ultimately.

“I’ve still got a bit of time left at Celtic, but, ultimately, we’ll just see how things go.”
