Token of a wretched campaign

259

If ever 90 minutes told the story of a season, it was last night in Dingwall.  A miserable team, bottom of the league and who sacked the manager that won at Celtic Park in November, took to the field with a cunning masterplan: put numbers behind the ball and wait for a set piece.

Ross County’s goal was exasperating.  Diego Laxalt did not get close enough to Jordan White to impede the striker’s movement, perhaps taking lessons from the lumbering Tom Rogic, who was equally lax at a first half corner that went unpunished.  The speed of delivery caught Scott Brown cold as White rose behind him to score the only goal of the game.

Despite Celtic enjoying the vast majority of the ball and territorial advantage, County could consider themselves unlucky not to be ahead at the break, after Spittal’s shot was stopped by Scott Bain pulling off the finest save of the game.

Eduard and Christie both had gilt-edged chances before that to put Celtic ahead but neither troubled the keeper.  Both are stalling on a contract offer and will hope prospective employers were busy watching something else on TV last night.

The only consolation is that this wretched league campaign will be over soon.  Well done to John Hughes and his County players, never short of endeavour.

  1. Anti Neil Lennon graffiti has appeared on the Clydeside Expressway.

A few years ago this would have been the work of bigoted huns. Now its virtually guaranteed to be the work of unhinged Celtic supporters.

For a section of our support they are indistinguishable from huns.

One Saturday my pal and I walked over to Celtic Park nice and early just to hang around outside and see the players arrive and get an autograph or two. The first famous face we saw was Mr James McGrory…we were in awe, it was like watching the Pope…and he was smiling at us. I half expected us to be given a blessing.

What went on with Madhun after Greece? Must have missed it.

    ————————-

Him and his refereeing team went to Greece to do a rival club game and 1 of his team tested postitive for covid on Wednesday last week, so all 4 or 5 should have been self isolating .

Yet Madden and 1 other I believe turned up for the Hibs v Hamilton game on Saturday.

Why is our club not kicking up feck over the whole debacle.

In fact its still scary now!

  8. EMERALDBEE – They were also on way to Dingwall on Sunday night to do our game when they got a call saying turn back.

SFA have apologised to Hibs and Hamilton but not Celtic or Ross County, but more importantly we should be calling out the farce that is SFA after all they never let Ryan Christie play after producing 4 or 5 negative results so they know the rules. If there are any……

  12. Paul will be on in a moment posting his own personal viewpoint on something or other, give some the chance to say “but Paul what about this thing that I want you to write about”

  13. Celtic is now ‘The Towering Inferno’ – a colossus brought down by carelessness & bad decisions during its ten-year construction.

But of course it never was a colossus, it was a “house of cards”, constructed cheaply and shortsightedly on a budget/ambition that insured it was always only ever the best of a bad lot in Scotland.

Neil Lennon is doing what anyone facing a situation like this would do – he is looking after ‘number one’. What happens to Celtic now and after he is gone is of no consequence to him. He wants his cash and will not resign, or, do anything, to jeopardise payment in full.

There is no chance that he could secure another meaningful managerial job on the UK mainland – I believe the same situation faced him when he left Hibs….but of course along came Celtic. So its a seat on the pundits couch for him, unless of course a club on the island of Ireland decides to take a chance.

How did Celtic ever contrive to get into this position? Brendan showed us the way until he was spooked into leaving by the appointment of Gerrard – his ego would not let him contemplate coming second in a two-horse race. Losing to Gerrard would have certainly precluded a return to the English Premier League – he knew it and looked to get out as soon as possible.

No one supporter has a clue where the club will be next season – the road will only get more rocky.

  14. I know where Celtic will be next season, The Scottish Premier League, and most probably in the Europa League.

We will rise again, why would we not.
