Toljan here to secure silverware

134

Celtic made an eleventh hour (literally) signing by securing German right back, Jeremy Toljan (24), on loan from Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.  The player was one of the hottest tickets in the Bundesliga 18 months ago when he joined Dortmund from Hoffenheim, making the kind of waves Kieran Tierney has here, but he has not enjoyed the same form since joining the league leaders.

The player and Napoli have been making eyes at each other for some time, but the Italians were not prepared to move this window; there is an expectation they may be back in the summer.

Brendan Rodgers is happy with what he gets from Kieran on the left, but clearly wants more on the right.  We have a league and a treble to compete for, and, of course, Valencia in the Europa League.  Jeremy is here to shore-up the silverware challenge.

Welcome to Celtic, Jeremy.  That’s all, folks!

  1. Matt – you, Sur….. are a genius.

sftb (my iPad text defaulted to ‘softball’) ha ha ha ?

Genius as well. I had a big long post in my head too… after reading the Napoli blog… came here to post… seen and read the musings of you two…

But in plagiarised ? Matt style… it was about the demise of rangers, discovering CQN, the TB season, broony, Hartley and Robson, eastenders, holly oaks and relationships!! To be continued….

`’How can we trust based on the recent signing.”

Well Burke & Weah have looked fine but it has only been a few games.

“remember the mantra – we only sign players that can improve the team.”

Whose mantra is that? I thought we had said that we sign players with the aim of improving the team but neither of them is a mantra. I’m fairly sure no club, not even Bialystock & Bloom FC, is signing anyone with the aim of weakening the team.

“Maybe the dortmund lad does, I hope so”

Well, that’s a wee bit of a changed tune- I thought you had stated he was definitely crap.

” but I have no confidence that we can sign a quality defensive player – its BR weakness.”

There have been a few that did not improve us – De Vries & Gamboa & Hendry but you also have to put Bain and Benkovic into that mix, on the plus side, and Izzy has been tidy cover.

    “See euro rankings”

We have remained a Pot 4 CL team just like every other big club from a peripheral league. We are ranked 44th in the UEFA co-efficient list, which leaves us behind “smaller” clubs like Plzen, Krasnodar, Brugge, Wolfsburg and Anderlecht (maybe Villareal, Salzburg and Sporting too, if you want to strretch it) but it leaves us ahead of Copenhagen, Fenerbache, Marseille, Gladbach, Inter, Dinamo Zagreb, Feyenoord and Valencia. I know these measures are fraught with issues in trying to measure like for like, so what lowly Euro rankings were you thinking of?

  5. Loaner; permanent; our player; their player – the terms are irrelevant in the modern game. Moussa proved so.

Everybody’s got a price, so everybody’s moveable. Form counts, so everyone’s jacket on that shaky peg.

Well done to our club for bringing so many YOUNG new faces; let’s enjoy and back them while they’re here.

My Dortmund-daft mate says Toljan has: ‘Definite potential, quick and versatile – closes down attackers well, as well as the odd countering run…”

Welcome to CFC Jeremy, Andrew, Manny, Maryan and Vakoun.

  12. Good morning friends and a Big Happy Friday from a repetitively cold and frosty East Kilbride. Windscreen scrapers at the ready.

Hope that big Yousuf plays well for Kilmarnock in tonight’s Friday Footballfest. For the next few weeks I’d be delighted if 3 out of the current top 4 all continue to win their games ;-)

Leftbackagain – great , no sorry brilliant news and a situation I can personally identify with.

  14. What is the Stars on

Have to say I am disgusted by this window.

I thought Peter was made of sterner stuff, but this is a shocking capitulation.

Spending money thats needed for heated driveways and bonuses on frivolity like 6 month loans for Bundes League right backs ( all be it a useless one by all accounts)

Giving in to the clamouring of the anarchist mob in the green brigade and the malcontents on here.

    A bridge too far Peter.

I have lost faith in your accounting skills.

    Lawwell out

  15. morning bhoys, from a cold but snow free Cheshire, glad we got a right back in, we need cover there hh.
