Toljan here to secure silverware

134

Celtic made an eleventh hour (literally) signing by securing German right back, Jeremy Toljan (24), on loan from Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.  The player was one of the hottest tickets in the Bundesliga 18 months ago when he joined Dortmund from Hoffenheim, making the kind of waves Kieran Tierney has here, but he has not enjoyed the same form since joining the league leaders.

The player and Napoli have been making eyes at each other for some time, but the Italians were not prepared to move this window; there is an expectation they may be back in the summer.

Brendan Rodgers is happy with what he gets from Kieran on the left, but clearly wants more on the right.  We have a league and a treble to compete for, and, of course, Valencia in the Europa League.  Jeremy is here to shore-up the silverware challenge.

Welcome to Celtic, Jeremy.  That’s all, folks!

  12. My friends in Celtic,

It would seem our signing policy has been defined. Loans , more loans with an occasional buy. That is the modern way.

I am reasonably happy, but in 6 months we start all over again. A 6 month loan player can play only circa 16 games.

We have stuck an elastoplast on instead of fixing the problem.

It is now becoming difficult to keep track of our squad and we have obviously deviated from our expressed aim of ” Quality over quantity ”

Will this strategy impact on our development players ? Of course it will.

What sort of planning is it to loan back Mulumbu to where he came from. Remember Kilmarnock are our title challengers, ( We are better than one in the eye to the huns ) .

Yes we will win the league, but I defy any Celtic supporter not to have certain reservations.

  15. Whilst I am pleased by our business in this window, I am not so keen on 6 month loan deals. I prefer long term signings who hang about Celtic Park for a decade or more. It is no accident that four of my favourite ever Celtic players are, Danny McGrain, Tommy Burns, Paul McStay and Scott Brown. Like longevity in a Celtic team.

  19. I’m happy enough with that window.

January is always a tricky one.

Hopefully we get whoever our plan A was for right back come the summer on a permanent deal.

We look like we’ve added pace through the team with Burke, Weah and toljan. That was crucial.

I was at the game on weds, first time in ages. Brown looked much better than he’s been since returning from injury. Perhaps he is just getting back to full match sharpness?

Burke’s link up play is excellent. Weah wasn’t convincing on weds but that’s the first I’ve seen of him and the guys I was with tell me he has looked very impressive previously.

The other thing of note for me was Chris Ajers performance. O’Halloran is no slouch but Chris has him in his pocket for pace all night. He looked very assured. I think he is a real prospect with the right partner beside him.

It was interesting watching Sky Sports transfer news last night that there seemed to be far more loan deals than straightforward buys going on.

I had to provide my address here and the relevant info from my Italian Identity card. Pal said it was only possible to buy 2 tickets .
