Tomorrow is Celtic’s biggest game since Seville

441

Tomorrow’s Scottish Cup final is Celtic’s biggest game since Seville. Having banked our 100th trophy, and an invincible league title, the opportunity to achieve a clean sweep of domestic trophies without loss of a single game is wholly without precedent. Even the Lions didn’t achieve this.

We are in an incredibly special season, an incredibly special time, for the club. When anything seems possible, it is hard to properly evaluate just how well things are going. We have had many title winning seasons, but the club’s trajectory, not to mention the sheer enjoyment of what we’re watching, has seldom come close to this season.

We face the club who have pushed us most in recent years at Hampden. They will arrive rightly believing they can win the trophy. It will be a huge task for Aberdeen, , but the odds on them taking the cup back north with them will be considerably less than those against Celtic completing an undefeated season a year ago.

Congratulations to the Celtic FC Foundation and everyone at the club who contributed to the incredible event at The Hyrdro last night. The scale and sheer professionalism of the night belied the fact that everyone involved were miles out of their comfort zone.

It was an incredible Celtic event. Thanks also to the performers who donated their time to the Foundation for free.

See you later at Greenock!

  1. Belated Big Cup anniversary wishes to Celtic F.C. and the magnificent Lions.

Just recovering from an emotional day yesterday. Spent most of the day thinking of my late father and his journey to Lisbon and the legacy he has left me and my children in supporting Celtic.

Then it was off to the Georgian hotel last night for a celebration of all things Celtic/1967 and in true Celtic supporter fashion we raised over £700 for the Kano foundation.

This is what it’s like to be Celtic!!

    Hail! hail! And thanks Dad.

  2. Fantastic to have Moussa available.Cant have too many Superstars.I think, only think,BR will go with Griff, and have Moussa on the bench. No matter, its a huge boost to us.Thought we might have got the news ,in this feel good, week, that Armstrong had signed.Getting a wee bit worried on this one now.On the other hand,if true, the story about Man City wanting Silva can only be good for us.

Beautiful BarbQ set up for tonight with the family, then one sleep to go.

  5. Last afternoon in Lisbon before heading home early tomorrow morning. 40 minute connection time in Amsterdam to make it home in time to watch the last, and hopefully best, game of a truly meorable season. Have met so many nice people here, and for sure will catch up with many again next season.

Wee bit of fun on the way back to our hotel after spending an afternoon jumping from tram to tram, just to avoid the hills. Popped into Starbucks for a coffee. Ordered two Grande Latte’s. Assistant at the counter say’s ” your name ?”

    Me: Celtic

    Assistant: Obrigado

Move away from counter after paying and leaving some smush as a tip.

The draw will take place this evening at Greenock and we will let the winner know straight away.

There will be ten runners up prizes going out too.

The in the Heat of Lisbon / Jock Stein t-shirt promotion has also ended. We still have around 40 copies of the book left but the remaining t-shirts are going t Greenock tonight. I have one set aside for Moonbeams.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this promotion, Paul was thrilled at the number of these t-shirts he saw at the Hydro last night.

I’ve been absolutely loving this blog this famous week. Wonderful posts and memories.

It’s taken me right back to being a 6-year-old, watching the legend unfold on a flickery black and white telly in our house in The Drum. It was my birthday two days later, on the 27th (still is, strangely).

I wasn’t old enough to get the full impact of what the Lions did, but what I do remember is that it was as if we – Irish Catholic Glaswegians – had come out from under a shadow.

Thanks to all for a great blog this week. I will be watching the Final in Oslo tomorrow with the Bhoys and Ghirls of Norway CSC. Hoping for the crowning moment on an amazing season.

But if not what the hell. What a season, what a week, what a club. What a time to be a Celt.

Hail! Hail! You do learn things on here, I know you from previous blogs and always assumed you were older than I . Perhaps you have a gravitas I lack?

I was 8 years and 2 months on our greatest day and remember bits from it however I always remember my uncle , whose house we were, in being carted off to hospital for an emergency appendectomy before half time. That was the end of that.

I do remember the sheer joy amongst my family in the following days.

I e ho your feelings in your last paragraph and posted to that effect earlier. I am sure you will have a great day tomorrow. Win , lose or draw as we like to sing. HH

    What age am I now?,

only kidden , I still recall things in that game that happened as I watched it, like it was yesterday, but if someone was to ask me who scored our first league goal this season I would have to ask mr Google .

But I suppose I was sober when we won the big cup, not so much when we scored the first goal this season.

  20. How the deid club never managed to win the Big Cup is a mystery.

In 1960 for example they only lost 12-4 on aggregate to Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi.

…who were then pumped 7-3 in the final by that Royal Madrid mob.

Yes, a FP of Maleys. Guilty as charged. In my defence I openly admit to not growing up until 35 years of age. Have a good weekend.

  23. A couple of Celtic supporters from separate parts of deepest darkest Lanarkshire hooked up again in Lisbon just like we did on our first day at Holy Cross high school. We were without a word of Portuguese on that day, but luckily ole Eurochamps67 picked up one word in fifty odd years ‘Obrigado’ and it was all we needed for the trip.

Bruno our self appointed Portuguese ‘tour guide’ started out as taxi driver but the good shepherd was a scholar of his city, and although way too young, also a sage of 67′. On reflection, he may have saw these two bhoys coming and was happy to snooze in his Mercedes till we had seen all the sights then returned us home before collecting his signing on fee.

It was a magical few days the highlight of which was sittiing in Estadio Nacional just outside paradise along with the songs and the souls of the modern as well as dearly departed Celts, at a place they call Jamor.

The whole amphitheatre is untouched by time in the baking heat of Lisbon the Celtic spirits are all still there, and you’ll find it exactly as you imagined it all of your life very much alive and bristling with your history.

A truely tree lined jewel etched in a hill above Lisbon magnificent in all its gladiatorial poise. When we sat down under the granite stage where the colossus McNeill greeted us with that gift from his Lions the atmosphere was still sheer Celtic.

Retracing footsteps of Celtic fans who had gone before in the days of BBC’s black and white TV, with its grainy pictures when we caught worldwide attention as the first ever Kings of Europe from any cold country.

I hope they never ever alter the stadium where the beautiful game was made to be watched and if you ever get the chance to go, you’ll never feel closer to Celtic this side of paradise, than I did on Thursday 25th May 2017.
